Discussion on Marikana Massacre 11 years on

Today marks 11 years since the Marikana massacre. On this day in 2012, police officers opened fire on striking mine workers at Marikana, in the North West Province. 34 mineworkers were killed and 78 seriously injured. 250 of the miners were arrested.
The massacre was the culmination of an intense week-long protest in which the miners were demanding a wage increase at the Lonmin platinum mine in a wildcat strike.
