"Serial killer" does not seem a very accurate description. Professional assassin may be more accurate. The main difference is that serial killers choose their own victims based on personal psychological drives. Assassins are assigned victims and just fulfill contracts.
You've probably done a video on her already, but have you done Giulia Tofana yet? She's technically labeled a serial killer but her poisons were usually sold to women trying to seek an escape from abusive marriages since they couldn't iniate a divorce themselves so it was literally their only way out or consign themselves to a life of constant physical and emotional torment. Her "aqua tofana" would be mixed into something like a food, drink or a makeup product. She's probably the one serial killer you can actually sympathize with because if divorce was legal her services wouldn't have been required.
Not condoning murder by any means, but if you're gonna enslave someone like that you can't be surprised if a market pops up around potential "freedom products"
Second this! Bailey covered her but I'd love to hear Simon tell it.
I'm pretty sure he has now.
@@elfpimp1 yeah, me too. He just has sooooo many videos lol. I got intimiated lol
@@Onora619 lol, RIGHT?!?!?!🤣👍
@@Textile_Courtesan”aqua tofanaaa” was an intrusive thought of mine for so long after that one 🤪🤪
If humans still exist in 2000 years imagine a future version of Simon talking about our royals and leaders 😮😊
@sarameyrick7182 Oh, humans will exist, our society on the other hand..... 😉
@@abnurtharn2927 I'd actually bet on the opposite.
@@sizanogreen9900 Quite sure the Romans said the same in 400 AD.
I was like "Locusta, Locusta... i've heard that name before." Then you mentioned Claudius (who's name means lame btw) and I was like. "OMG yeah that Locusta. Man Agripina was a real bitch!"
Oooh, I did a presentation on her in middle school. I'd forgotten all about it. It's fun to see this!
"I am Locusta of Borg. Resistance is futile."
Actually Livia started killing people in the Julian household long before Aggrippina came around. You can also make the argument that Locusta was not a killer, if she just sold the poisons and never administered any of them.
Locusta- Professional problem solver
Serial killer or assassin? 🤔
por que no los dos
@@RAYISMYHERORIMHbe serial killers have specific behaviors that don’t seem to fit here
@@craigraboteau7024Right, and she did a lot of it under someone's employ. "Assassin" is closer.
@@TitularHeroine no. I mean the markers of a serial killer don’t seem to be there… the pathology. That’s why there’s a distinction between serial killers and multiple murderers… its bc serial killers display a certain pathology that multiple murderers don’t. From what they explained in this video, it doesn’t seem that she has the e pathology of a serial killer
A Venn diagram would show all but the most seldom employed assassins as lying totally within the area of serial killers.
You just need to build a giant rainforest vivarium Simon. Can't wait for AntsCanada to drop that video!!
I'm guessing that as long as there's been homosapiens, there's also been those who murdered others, with no reason other than a desire to see them suffer. The human capacity to be cruel is just as great as the capacity to be kind. The Yin-Yang balance of society.
If these stories of cruelty make you sad, choose kindness in your daily interactions. Be the Yang.
Seems less a serial killer and more an assassin, no?
Well a serial killer before being sanctioned as an assassin.
What about Claudius' grandmother Livia? Her reputation for murder by poison was legendary and her husband Tiberius' reign was arguably worse than Nero's because of his decision to leave Rome for Capri and put it in the hands of Lucius Sejanus who embarked on a reign of terror where none were safe.
time for another journey into the shadows!
Now I want to dust off my copy of _I, Claudius,_ again.
I recently read Margaret George's "The Confessions of young Nero," a great novel in which Locusta is an important character. It is a wonderful book about Nero, a misunderstood artist and product of his environment. Locusta WAS real, apparently.
Ah yes, poisoned mushrooms. My favorite delicacy.
Hey Simon you should make a video to the medival serial murderer Christmann Gniperdoliga. He killed like over 900 people.
Locusta of Borg 🤔😏😁
😂😂
I won't be shocked if Netflix decided to make a mini series in homage to Locusta after watching this video.
History is fascinating 😊
Looks like Joffrey Baratheon
I love history thank u
Ok, I'm going to stay flexible here.
Forgot to grab my reading glasses.
Apparently this video isn't about bugs...
😄
"Her son, Nero" yeah now that makes sense
His favorite delicacy was poisoned mushrooms?
Mine too, they make things groovy.
The "c" in "aconite" is a HARD c.
Thanks!
she had to hone her skill somehow. probably poisoned a whole lot of commoners and slaves throughout Rome.
lol the first serial killer? There are tons of older stories about people whose actions today would make them serial killers.
Simon: saw her bloody fingerprints all over her period. 13:08
Thanks for that picture you put into my head
Starfishes love you
Oh hello! ❤
She almost certainly wasn’t the world’s first serial killer. People have been killing multiple people for various reasons including for power, possessions and enjoyment since our conception. It’s also hard to believe that she was a lone poisoner in Ancient Rome, rather than part of a much larger group of experts in botany and plant-based poisons. If she was a lone figure whose expertise was available for hire, you’d assume the Roman elite knew about her exploits and knew exactly who she was putting a massive target on her back. However, her being part of an elite surreptitious group of poisoners seems more likely, as there’d be greater anonymity and safety in numbers. I’m sure poisoning was ubiquitous in Ancient Rome and whether you’d actually need an ‘expert’ poisoner is a question for another day….
You really that stupid? It's a title to get people's attention. They tend to say whatever to get it. That said, do you not understand that this isn't one hundred percent literal? Possibly could even be just to get you to watch.
P.S. It's hard to believe you are smart.
Chill man @@rickwilliams967
i bet you're REALLY fun at parties
Habeo certo artes.
Locusta was reincarnated at Thatcher 😂
What about the tears of Lys?
As long as there have been self aware humans, there has been murder 🤐🤐🤐
I am Locusta of Borg...
I would read the sh!+ out of a set of historical fiction around her life.
Hmm. Bronze medal.
Not bad for being from the iron age.....
*whispers* Aqua Tofanaaaaa.....
How many emperor or empresses that were also cannibals?
Gross. Disgusting. Revolting. Yeah, I also wanna see that episode
She didn’t murder that people. She delivered the gun.
Talk about having a bad trip lol
It was a french knight that fought with joan of arc that agruely history first recorded serial killer
That's been rather refuted a few times. The common thought now was that it was all slander to take his land.
Gilles de Rais was in the 1400s. Locusta is 1st century AD 😊
TURN THE MUSIC DOWN 🎶 PLEASE
She is the inspiration for Lucretia Borgia...
I'm pretty sure there was a serial killer earlier than that. Come on. A bit of a hyperbolic title. I'd venture to say there were serial killers in the earliest generations of the species.
Simon Whistler is AI.
This dude looks creepy. Let's go
I'll bet Locustas execution wasn't pretty.
WWW
Simon. I can't see the top pf your head!
How to avoid being poisoned - step one, don’t be a douche. Step two, don’t screw over the women.
Queen shit, really
Why on earth are you blurring out the paintings. Utterly ridiculous and embarrassing.
It's stupid, but it's because some stuff will get automatically demonitized or removed by TH-cam.
@@TitularHeroinei understand what you are saying, but they can put up disclaimers etc, they’re so many real nude channels on TH-cam that get away with it. Even if google did take action, pointing out it was paintings and not actual people I’m sure the channel would win.

THIRTY FIFTHHHHHH
😅
Can we chill with the music a little? It’s really hard to focus on what Simon is saying?
Serial killer? No. First documented female assassin? Possibly. Poor title choice.
Good content, but not enjoying the pseudo 1940's BBC accent. The affectations change on different videos.
Project 2025, please. It’s very like the thirties in a certain area
