I was introduced to Jonatha's music way back in the mid-90s by a dear friend who, like me, couldn't get enough of those delicate, powerful, dissonant and perfectly harmonious vocals. 20-something me couldn't get enough, and I played The Angel In The House on repeat in my car for years. The CDs are long lost, but I still stream those albums sometimes. I never paid much attention to the lyrics of So Much Mine as 20-something me, but tonight, 50 year old me- parent to two teenagers- really *heard* it for the first time, and it tore me to bits. Deeply thankful this song both transcended time and space, and cut to my core in an entirely new way.
Song brings a tear to my eyes. Summer 1993 waiting tables at White Dog cafe on Nantucket island, this song was always on. The sun was always shining, and I was surrounded by people in the prime of our youth. Always loved when this song came on. Damn beautiful.
I was in Acadia with my soul mate - now my wife. We played this song the entire week mid-October 1993 - the memories come rushing back every time I hear it played.
I grew up in Cape Town South Africa and in late teens we were given the gift of this record by a dear friend from TX and it changed our musical lives!! It is the soundtrack of our youth. Living in Nashville now and it was a massive reason we all pursued music.
This song give me goosebumps - I heard it first back in August 2001 driving from Montreal to Burlington Vermont and it reminds me of the beauty of the Adirondacks.
As a high-schooler into progressive metal, who would have thought I would fall in love with this song back in 1993. I just heard someone cover this song 1/19/2019 on Live From Here with Chris Thile and I was absolutely gobsmacked in my car thinking it was being played specifically for me 26 years after I discovered it. I have goosebumps just thinking about the experience. Jonatha sounds absolutely amazing here in this performance.
I believe the very talented Aoife O'Donovan was the someone. She did a great job, but I personally was mad in that Chris gave a shout out to the Story, but he could have got either one (Who knows, maybe both) on the show if he had gotten around to it. I sent him a note to that affect and then NPR cancels the show...
Jonatha is my favorite. I wish I were blessed enough to find myself in her company someday, just to admire her talent in person. Although it is still a dream come true to witness via youtube... Thanks for posting and keeping this on here!
back in what about 1995... My best bro Peter and I were fairly regular at the Troubador here in LA we went to see Toy Matinee and they had Jonatha Brooks music playing pre-show ... the next Kevin Gilbert show she opened for them and we were freekin' SOLD.. We fell in love with her, never missed an LA show for the next 10 years ? ... so nice to find this and see shes just as beautiful and talented as ever. ... and we are still in love with her... for 25 years now. Bravo Jonatha!
Damn, my two 90's favorites. I would have driven from Bisbee, AZ had I known. Kinda pre-internet for me. Oh well. Don't want to think about this too much. Is Lawry the singer who sang for Sting's Last Ship NY show? Sure looks exactly like her.
I saw the Story band just after Jennifer Kimball left. All their songs She sang with new singer. And Kevin Gilbert opened for them. Found his cd THUD years after he died.
Discovered her today. She’s touring with my friend Richard Thompson in England. She’s just so good. Sexy harmony! Oh my!

I've been listening to her for years.. she is a treasure
I discovered Jonatha Brooke and Jennifer Kimball through WXPN in Philadelphia.

I know exactly where and what you mean. World is small!
It makes me cry every time, too. In fact, every time Jonatha opens her mouth, it makes me cry. Voice of an angel.
