When an opponent tries to do a crossup attack over your head, it's possible to use qcb.HP as a hard read or reaction to a late attempt into either EX qcb.PP, EX FBA, or Super.
Vega is a tough character to master...I've been playing him for like a month and still get crushed 85% of the time. His combos are so rewarding when you pull them off though
Clawless cr. forward, s.strong target combo into whatever works. Also, some other notable ch. confirms are clawless s.strong, cr.strong xx etc., claw on s.fierce one hit, cr.strong xx v trigger, claw on s.strong, s.fierce xx etc also works. Also, AA crush counter s.roundhouse into standing v-trigger, CA also works. that would be more optimized than a jumping v-trigger, since you can't follow up a jumping v trigger. VonKoopa mentioned some others that work. Claw on ch s.fierce, claw switch s.strong target combo also works.
Hi Baf, I'm having real trouble with my wake up game as Vega i feel like I have to guess if they intend to throw or just throw out something, I i go to tech a throw I get punished hard. Are there any techniques to minimize the guessing game as a Vega player in 5?
no, Vega was balanced around this guessing game. The only techniques I can recommend are watching for a neutral or minus frames move and doing reversal jabs to push the opponent out, utilizing your vreversal, and teching throws later or not at all based on your opponent's tendencies
maybe I missed it or maybe because it's Irrelevant, but I didn't see any F+HP mention here. You can cancel from it into v-trigger and then super. and the off chance it crush counters you can follow up with another F+HP into v trigger and super or slide.
So sad i wanted to play Vega but... i can barely do any of his combo where you switch between claw and clawless , i had no problem doing 90% doing Karin's combo but for some reason i cannot do Vega's combo , oh well.
Yes, but there's a couple more now. You can do claw target combo into EX FBA now, or claw st. HP xx claw swap, st. MP. So all the old combos work but there are some new ones which are very mildly more optimal.
+Cardinair Just tested this, it works. I tested it earlier and thought it didn't but I think I tried from too far out. This is mostly inferior to sweep but there's a range where it works and sweep doesn't so it should have gone in the video, thank you.
I remember doing (after having lost the claw) st. fierce xx claw switch > st. strong (xx st. roundhouse etc.) during the second beta. Don't know whether it still works since I haven't had the opportunity to play since. Also, I think (lost claw) ch. st fierce xx claw switch > st. fierce xx/> whatever was a thing, but I might be wrong. Clawless ch. st. fierce xx claw switch > clawed st. fierce was definitely possible, though.
Combos swapping INTO vega w/o claw do higher damage than combos swapping into vega with claw. If your claw is knocked off, then your claw swap always swaps you into no-claw. However claw mode has received some buffs since I made this video so vega still tries to avoid having his claw hit off if he can help it.
As far as I can tell you can't V trigger in the air any more unless you have just wall jumped. What would you say is the best way for Vega to get opponents off of him when he is being pressured? Each time I try EXFBA I seem to get hit by light normals before I can hit them on the way up. I usually have real trouble with Karin cause I can't get her away. Love your videos.
+David McMahon I think you can only v-trigger on forward jumps but you can absolutely do it outside jumping off the wall. And vega doesn't really have a reversal besides super, so get out traditionally by blocking and having good defense. Vega can easily keep the opponent from walking in should he ever get pushed out by normals just by using his great jabs
Hey Baf, was watching this and other people's Vega BnB videos and was wondering. For punish combos, why do people do: (claw/clawless) st. HP xx claw switch, cr. MP xx MK CT and not: (claw/clawless) st. HP xx claw switch, st.LP, cr. MP xx MK CT? The jab adds extra damage and works at the same ranges as without it. It even makes the link easier imo. What am I missing?
HP ASE is his best anti-air and isn't even mentioned? (watissf.dantarion.com/sf5/boxdox/#cbt3_steam_megapak/EB2-AURORA_H-11) And you can connect EX ASE after Claw FBA hits on the ground.
+Af0 It's absolutely not his best anti air at all. It doesn't shrink his hurtbox and it's ridiculously slow, meaning you either eat a counter hit or at best you trade. It also doesn't work at many ranges. I dunno if it was better in Beta 2 but as of beta 3 it's a pretty garbage anti air now, you basically need to predict to get a clean hit
In terms for priority I thought it was the best. Using it is probably impractical because of how slow it is. Hopefully they make it useful in the final build. I consider the other anti-airs to be garbage too because I know no ones gonna jump in from a distance where the range is ideal.
+Af0 the thing is he HAS an anti air for pretty much all ranges, near and far, which I show here. You just have to be quick on the uptake to catch close jumps with air throw, and have no prior commitments. His AA game is definitely better than sf4 but he has to be really choosy between several AAs based on the range, like sf4 chun. His clawless cr hp is a pretty godlike aa normal to be honest.
+Bafael inside his poke range, I feel he is very vulnerable to jump-ins. His anti-air choices there are either jump back air throw, and HP ASE - and both are susceptible to being counter hit if not done early enough. It's really difficult to execute them early because you're so focused on the ground game in the meantime. That's why I feel his best choice when being jumped in from those angles is actually his sweep. He just gets outta there. That is unless they change his final build.
Bafael buddy, really having a rough time. This character is really hard to use and I don't want to play a shoto. Struggling to use Vega's V-skill against constant hadoukens, (been trying to fight cpu lvl 6) Played like 20 games lost them all badly, especially against shotos. I tried these combos and can't get some of them to work, I think they might not be viable anymore.
+David Lethargo I can say safely that every combo in this video works and possibly barring some of the CH only non crush counter ones, all of them are viable. If you want I can get some footage of me playing vega against shotos for you to study
Been trying the clawless MP xx HK xx EX Barcelona throw but it only seem to work in the corner. If used anywhere else you can't reach the opponent because they descend to fast. Am I doing it wrong or does it just not work?
+Duong Nguyen (zgnoud) if you have no claw you'd rather do cr. MK, st. MP xx HK xx skill/EX FBA/etc. Even HP into HK roll does more damage than that link.
Create a new psn call it a funny name. Pick a scrub and really destroy all the scrubs that win against u. Taunt them etc im having a blast. This is why they do it haha.

I'm seriously thinking about playing some claw in V.
That V-Trigger is super cool.

Thanks for these vids. Feel like i'm going to have a slight edge on sf5 release
Vega is going to be dangerous now that he isn't a charger.
awesome video mate, looking forward to getting my practice on.
Unless it's changed since beta 2, linking c.MK into the target combo combo with claw off gives you a damage boost.

Thank you for the reply
just got the game and want to learn him, can someone explain if the 1:01 combo still work? i can't reach the grab at the end :(
Yes it still works, you can steer vega around in the air during the flying barcelona attack. Just hold up+towards opponent and do LP+LK when close.
thanks, this has been very helpful.
maybe I missed it or maybe because it's Irrelevant, but I didn't see any F+HP mention here. You can cancel from it into v-trigger and then super. and the off chance it crush counters you can follow up with another F+HP into v trigger and super or slide.
+twistedhands They're in there, at 3:30.

Hey, do these combos still work? I'm looking for up to date bread and butter, since I know they have had several balance patches since 2016. thanks
Yes, but there's a couple more now. You can do claw target combo into EX FBA now, or claw st. HP xx claw swap, st. MP. So all the old combos work but there are some new ones which are very mildly more optimal.
Awesome. Thanks man! these bread and butter vids are lifesavers for us newer players still learning the game.
Ryu got his ass kicked...that what I want to do to my brother, uhhhh well I guess dreams don't come true
Crimson Terror is actually a godlike Anti-air
If Vega gets a Crush Counter on his f+HP, can't he do a second f+HP before cancelling into V-trigger?
+Cardinair Just tested this, it works. I tested it earlier and thought it didn't but I think I tried from too far out. This is mostly inferior to sweep but there's a range where it works and sweep doesn't so it should have gone in the video, thank you.
+Bafael You could also use it to convert a long-range Crush Counter into Super if you have the meter.
+Bafael I downloaded the beta for ps4 and found out the servers were took down. Says I'm unable to log on in? how are you playing
+Cardinair This seems to no longer work on the launch build unless I'm fucking it up.
kanalgrävare was on ps4 looking for matches...shit was dead q_q

1:49 What do you mean by "reels" in this context?
This particular crush counter inflicts spin-stun. The point is it's a comboable state which leads into his normal punish combos.

***** That would be godlike of you, I don't know how to play this character. Thank you.
What is the BGM? Is it from SFV? It sounds like Animals as Leaders.
+23Sirus23 it is.
+Mr. Gooderman I also thought the main menu theme sounded just like Animals as Leaders! That's funny, it's probably the polyrhythm.
MetalChild Absolutely, and the soaring melodies. God damn this is a good theme, probably one of my favorite SF themes ever.
Been trying the clawless MP xx HK xx EX Barcelona throw but it only seem to work in the corner. If used anywhere else you can't reach the opponent because they descend to fast. Am I doing it wrong or does it just not work?
it definitely works. You have to steer Vega towards the opponent. You can control Vega's movement midair

Oh, thanks!
How accurate is this video now that the game is out?
+goonies101 almost if not wholely accurate. I don't think I showed off EX FBA to EX claw slash though
great vid
As of today you can't crouching M.Kick into standing H.punch, which sucks cause that was my go to to setup everything smh time 2 switch characters
It still works on counter hit. Like before!? I, don't think cr. MK into St. HP was ever natural link.
It still works on counter hit. Like before!? I, don't think cr. MK into St. HP was ever natural link.
+The Treacherous Disciplin it used to be a confirmed combo its not anymore
Hey yo, can you do A video about how to get fba and exfba against players who know how to jump-kick interrupt these moves?
hi
qcb+HP isn't AA?
+Harris Ejaz It works but you have to be really fast. It was worse in beta 3 than it is now.
Is there anyway to get these combos on sheet?
+Victor Samsonenko ????? you mean written down? There's a pastebin link in the description.
Is this on 3rd beta ?
Yeah. It says at the beginning of the vid
you for forgot QB + HP for anti-air
+blingximus It's actually not a very good anti-air.
+blingximus Even L Scarlet Roll is a better anti air... for some reason...
+Hailstormful Crimson Terror, I'm a scrub...
Thank you!
A nice crush counter punish combo i found after blocking a SRK was st.hk, walk forward 1 step cr.mk ~ cr.mp xx Roll
+Duong Nguyen (zgnoud) if you have no claw you'd rather do cr. MK, st. MP xx HK xx skill/EX FBA/etc. Even HP into HK roll does more damage than that link.
Nice vid.
Without narration I cant follow
On counter hit with claw.
St hp xx remove claw xx cr.mk xx st.mp xx st.hk xx EX Barcelona xx Izuna drop.
EX Barcelona can be replaced with super
Probably worst anti airs in the game
Create a new psn call it a funny name. Pick a scrub and really destroy all the scrubs that win against u. Taunt them etc im having a blast. This is why they do it haha.
