Is Your Red The Same as My Red has always been my favourite Vsauce video. It's a thought that I've had since I was in my early teens around the turn of the millennium, but assumed it was an absurd thought that no one I talked to about it would ever take seriously. Seeing that, not only have people talked about it, but it actually had a name (qualia) really helped me have more confidence in the thoughts I have that I expect to not be responded to well by others. If it turns out to be dumb, so be it, but I'd now be far more disappointed to have a thought that others had and to find out I could have learned how deeply some have thought about it but didn't because I didn't say it out loud.
Wow, I haven't felt so inspired about this platform in a while! With the pace of the internet it’s so easy to forget old videos, but they really weren’t that long ago, and lined up like this it feels like one big thing, a movement, the story of online science videos. And as someone who was influenced by almost every single one of these videos, it’s the highest honor to be a part of this group 💛
Let me tell you, that video was one of the best things I've ever seen anywhere. You have fully earned your place among VSauce, Veritasium, Hank Green, Up And Atom, and all the other great creators mentioned here!
Incredible video. I remember being a precocious pre-teen/teenager who obsessed over these videos. I'll forever owe all of these creators a debt for the way they influenced my love of science and my passion for science communication. Thank you for revisiting them!
BobbyBroccoli's "The man who tried to fake an element" is probably greatest of all time. It covers nuclear physics, history of the field and spices it up with drama. It is perfect. Also, it took me good several minutes to figure out where I know you from. Jet Lag.
I came to comment this one! Incredibly thorough explanations of element discovery and very intriguing storytelling. It’s not just TH-cam content, it’s filmmaking and documentary journalism. I discovered it one day at work during some downtime and I couldn’t believe how well it was put together.

The Library of Babel is from a short story by Borges, well worth reading. As young computer scientists, back in university, a friend of mine pointed out that the entire library contains no information whatsoever. For every book that says something, you can find another one that says the opposite. I was pretty shocked to realize this was true!

I still remember the first time I watched the Vsauce video on the Banach-Tarski paradox. It totally blew my mind, and it was my gateway to TH-cam science. Michael's channel is amazing, definitely my favourite science youtuber.

As a meta-addition to your list, I recommend Dan Olson's video "what is VSauce" which goes into the development of VSauce from a video game memes show to one of the most famous science shows in the world. He also puts this in the frame of a analysis of how people and their digital footprint relate to time in general.

Nothing by PBS Space Time? They've done some superb videos. Check out: The speed of light is not about light. Fermilab has some nice explanations of fundamental physics such as relativity theory.

vihart is literally the reason why I started watching science and math videos on youtube so I'm glad her pi day videos were mentioned! I remember I started using khan academy in elementary school to learn more math and one day I stumbled upon a section that featured her math doodling videos and I got obsessed with making hexaflexagons from that. Then the algorithm started recommending me more videos from veritasium, smarter every day, vsauce, cgp grey, mark rober, etc... I'm in college now so watching this video was really nostalgic for me because I totally forgot about how those early videos were like the gateway to me discovering how much I love science and math. If you're still reading this comment and looking for recommendations, I'd like to give a shoutout to Not David and Physics for the Birds :) They are smaller channels that use super interesting real world examples to explain math in simpler terms.
A (maybe not) surprising number of these also made an impact on me. While I'm no science content creator, it's cool to see that some of my favorite science videos inspired others as much or more. Thanks for the neat video!
Nice list. 😊 A further TH-cam science content maker you might be interested in is Angela Collier. Somehow similar to your videos, but very different nevertheless, her videos are not so much "here is a (narrow) subject, now I will explain it for 12 minutes". They are more a complex "train of thought" process, often provocative, not for casual listeners, but always quite intruiging. Your videos and hers are at the top of my favorites list.
Two things come to mind. First the course on numerical relativity by Franz Pretorius. His work enabled the detection of gravitational waves by LIGO. The second is not a TH-cam video, but there are many videos reporting the findings. This is about the way desert ants navigate, originally several papers, then a book, and then videos reporting the findings.
As great as 3B1b is, 2017 should have gone to History of the Entire World, I Guess, by Bill Wurtz. It is among the most influential TH-cam videos ever.

Nice list. 😊 A further TH-cam science content maker you might be interested in is Angela Collier. Somehow similar to your videos, but very different nevertheless, her videos are not so much "here is a (narrow) subject, now I will explain it for 12 minutes". They are more a complex "train of thought" process, often provocative, not for casual listeners, but always quite intruiging. Your videos and hers are at the top of my favorites list.
Two things come to mind. First the course on numerical relativity by Franz Pretorius. His work enabled the detection of gravitational waves by LIGO. The second is not a TH-cam video, but there are many videos reporting the findings. This is about the way desert ants navigate, originally several papers, then a book, and then videos reporting the findings.

I've also been thinking about the library of babel on and off for years! But I'd forgotten it's name snd which vsauce video it was from, so thanks for reminding me!
