  • French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire says the entire global economy is at risk from a glut of cheap Chinese exports, raising the alarm as Group of Seven countries try calibrate their responses. He also discussed funding for Ukraine during an exclusive interview with Bloomberg’s Oliver Crook on the sidelines of the G-7 meeting of finance ministers and central bankers in Stresa, Italy.

Regarding of banning the Chinese green energy goods, this is like people are in the a sinking ship, but you're not allow to use Chinese life jacket because your countries do not produce enough the same life jackets.

Strange, Chinese “overcapacity” in clothing, cheap toys, tools, cellphones and more didn’t seem to bother the G7, no concern for how cheap stuff destroys the global economy then.
Now that the Chinese might dominate a new industry, the G7 all of sudden think making too many cheap stuff is terrible and is a fear we all across the world must share in.

No one wants cheap goods to the detriment of entire industries. Plus, China outright banned google and other US tech companies, requiring foreign companies to partner and transfer technology to China at the detriment of foreign companies wasn’t good on Chinas part either.

For the life of me, i cannot understand why has EU and USA have now a protectionist stance. I was a student of the Washington consensus which promote trade liberalization and how trade benefited the wealth of all countries based on Ricardian model of comparative advantage. We established GATT and formalized it into the WTO of which all EU counties and USA were signatories. So what happened to the days of reducing tariff and trade barriers. USTR spent the decades of the 80s and 90s to reduce trade barriers. Now we are just doing the opposite. So disappointing. They don’t do what they preach. No more credibility by EU and US trade officials

Why does the West, being the land of free market, think it should regulate prices of goods in the market. Shouldn't it be looking to get the lowest price for the best quality for the consumer. Isn't that what a free market is all about.
