I spent the night rain testing this budget tent from Temu! After doing an initial ‘first look’ it was time to take the tent out for a wild camp in the rain to see if it really is waterproof…
A little bit of rain (real and artificial) put it to the test on this solo wild camp. I also got chance to see what the tent is like for condensation.
    Thanks for watching! Ben 🤓

#Temu I don't think the winner is unlucky. I'd GLADLY take this tent! For the price, you get a light tent with dual doors, room to stretch out, and seems pretty good at holding the water out. An extra spray of waterproofing just to alleviate any soaking in, and it would be a perfect tent.

Great tip on the glasses - never thought of that and crushed mine last time ! Shame it didn't stack up but the Eurohike recommendation sounds better option . I think the triangle you mentioned before means most first timers go heavy on gear ( I certainly did and still do ) and keep price lower with reasonable effectiveness. And sorry we pushed you into a rain test - with that dance we had an added bonus ! Best wishes from Carpathian Mountains .

Hi Ben, great video as always. In terms of the waterproofness of the tent it might be OK if it's given a re-proof. I have an old (very old) robens tent and I found it was leaking when I dug it out. I gave it a coat with grangers and so far it's holding out really well. Other than the leaks the tent looks like it's pretty good.

For food, I bought some mylair foil bags on Amazon and cook up meals like stews, chicken casserole (pot pie filling), etc - leftovers can also be used but stick to protein, veg and sauce kind of meals. They are ziplock but you can heat seal them if you have the equipment or an old iron. I freeze them and then take them out of the freezer on day one where even in summer they are still only just defrosted at dinner time - heat them in a pot or pan. Weigh around 250 - 350 depending on what's inside. It's really nice sitting outside a tent and eating a tasty home cooked meal while gazing out over the views.
BTW that spectacles hanger idea is brilliant!!!!!

I had the same idea of layering instead of shelling out on a dedicated winter bag so far the most effective is the british army summer bag with must have bugnet and 2 poncho liners (woobies) when the temps drop there small light and don't take to much pack room but still it weighs more than a winter bag so swings and roundabouts mate.

Hi Ben , 2nd comment sorry I’m a nightmare 😂..just wanted to add best thing I’ve found for extra warmth in summer bags are cheap down trousers (got mine from Ali express) …brilliant for round camp & for extra warmth in a lightweight sleeping bag, together with a down jack your essentially doubling up you bag if that makes sense(probably not)😂 take care , stay safe & practice that dance 🕺 😉

A great bit of whinging and sarcasm. I, like it, it makes a pleasant change from all the upbeat, happy campers.
I like the idea of layering up sleep systems. Its a very long time since I did science at school but logic says that the gap between two bags or quilts will add another layer of warm air but, there again, I could be talking out of my arse.

a sleeping bag liner itself doesn't add much to your sleeping bag in terms of being warmer. It's actually the space between the liner and the sleeping bag that holds the heat. The air trapped between the bag and the liner is what gives you the 10 degrees. it's a buffer zone between the cold and the liner, just like the air between you and the liner is also a buffer zone.

I bought the Tamar 2 and hated it with all the passion I can muster. Having to put an outer with two poles in gossamer thin sleeves and then having to attach the inner was annoying beyond all measure.. I bought a Eurohike Cloud Peak 2 and absolutely love it. Inner attached to the outer, easy to pitch, lots of space.

    • @ful48j
      @ful48j ปีที่แล้ว

Do you mean the Naturehike Cloud Peak 2?
      That's the tent use.
IMNSHO The only negative points are that it's not idesl fir anyone over 6ft tall and its over 2Kg.
I've used it in very heavy thunderstorms and it doesn't leak.

I have both a Tamar 2 and A Naturehike Cloud Peak 2. I agrre that the Naturehike is a superb tent, certainly my tent of choice, but the Tamar, once pitched for the first time can be packed away with the inner stil attached. Makes it much quicker next time. Having said that, like yourself, there probably won't be a next time🤣 For the money though, The Tamar is probably the best value tent you can buy. A superb starter tent.

I'm a very restless sleeper and invariably end up in a tangle with most sleeping bag liners and narrow bags. I've been exploring the layering route as a possible affordable solution. Spotted a Big Agnes Farrington lightweight Primaloft bag/liner at half price. Lovely on it's own for warmer nights, and importantly, tangle free. With either a Snupak Junglebag or OneTigris Down Blanket as a quilt, it's comfortable into single figures, but looking for budget recommendations to get to zero and beyond?

I would use a waterproof bivvy and then put a winter sleeping pad, like a Thermarest and warm sleeping bag, with a fleece insert inside the bivvy. The bivvy keeps the heat in far more than a sleeping bag and insert alone. It also stops the bag slipping off the pad.

It didn't perform as well as I had thought though.
My first tent was the tamar 2 which I got on sale for 21 quid and that was waterproof and simply brilliant apart from pack size and weight.
My second tent was a big old avon 3dlx nightfall which weighed a ton but was watertight and had a massive gear shed with groundsheet. That was on sale at millets for less than 60 quid.
This temu thing isn't much cheaper than a colman cobra 2 which is a tried and tested tent. But this is taller and roomier.
I guess it seems cheap compared to MSR or Hilleberg but it's not in that league at all.
But thank for the in depth review. That was a good watch.

#Temu I was interested to see how you went on in this tent when you first reviewed it. I had bought the Colman Cobra 2 for £67 at the same time which is about 2 kg and quite compact when split up for packing. It rained when I was out in the Cobra and it was waterproof. I really don't like the Cobra's coffin shape and limited headroom and was envious of your Temu tent until your overnight test. The next time I was out I used my Tamar 2, it erects quickly as an all-in-one and is far more spacious despite weighing a kilo more. I have decided that should I wish to reduce the amount I am carrying I'll go on a diet - I could well get ride of the 3kg of a Tamar from my gut! After you shop at Mountain Warehouse I went in and got a couple of packs of travel toothbrushes which were still showing as £2.99 for a pack with two in, but at the check out were being charged at £1.99. I also followed your example and nipped into Tesco and bought a £2 inflatable pillow, not to sleep on but to use on my chair which is incredibly difficult to rise from - this has solved the problem.

Nothing that a light waterproof fabric or tarpaulin wouldn't sort out in a minute or even a can of Fabsil.

#Temu seems ok for the money but maybe better looking at more thoroughly tested tents like the one you mentioned.

#TEMU, Seemed ok for the price point if used as a fair weather overnighter. Cheers for the review. 👍

I remember saying I want to see you do a proper camp in that tent and you saying I just want to see you suffer.
So I'm dedicating this video to meeeeeee. Lol

Get a good winter bag , so much better than sleeping in multiple layers.
Not much difference in weight as you don't need to carry liners, army softys or whatever..
Took my 1100 rab to Iceland this spring was comfy in my boxers at minus 5 so much better than multiple layers.

#temu. What are the toilet arrangements when one wild camps? I'm too old to hold.

There are guidelines. Read up on it. Example article here: www.beckythetraveller.com/wild-camping-toilet-tips-paper-peeing-pooing-outdoors/

Their budget tents seem to fare better at the same price point. Great set of videos on this. Maybe an ebay/aliexpress tent special next. 😄

@DaleyOutdoors Adds more excitement that way. Who wants to have a good sleep, hidden away, when you can stay up all night thinking every noise is someone coming who's seen your brilliant white tent. 😅

Could be worse. It could be the inflatable boy who took a pin into his inflatable school.
