Great to see Matagalpa again. I travelled there on mission trips and then on my own to this fine city. No Cartels. I became friends with the head chief of three police departments in three other cities and he said Matagalpa was the safest city in Nicaragua ,that is why he lives there with his family. Everyone is friendly for sure and I walked many nights with no problems . Even weed is illegal . Anyone with drug or alcohol problems on the street is shipped off to a center out in the country where they are straightened out and even trained for work , great system ! Going to retire there . The only time to be careful is during street festivals where outsiders and pick pockets might come to prey.
Hello, I really liked the video, I was also there this week, it was a shame not to meet you, I was in exactly the same streets. I plan to return for Christmas. One comment, I don't think it's accurate to say that it is a narco country. Drugs are not grown in Nicaragua, but like the rest of the world there are consumers and like the rest of Latin America it is part of the drug movement route from where it is produced in the south to where there is great demand in the north. I hope to see more of your videos
A stranger with a camera coming into your hood to film and have a big smile. Makes people uncomfortable, uneasy. Try to talk first, play pool and buy beers, Then ask permission to film hes new friend to send back home. Something they can relate about. Dont make it like your at the zoo filming. LOL! I’m a proud nicaraguan , yes are government and the situation there is bad and i’m always sad to here about it . But it’s definitely not a cartel country lol . I go there every summer and my family never mentions anything about cartels , or gangs that they worry about . there are none in Nicaragua . You are probably confused because alot of people have a misconception of central america where every country is a narco cartel country. But i’m here to tell you nicaragua isn’t lol

I don't think there are cartel in that area from what I've heard, they go on the water around the Caribbean.
