- A float switch is a device that is used to detect the level of water in a tank. Based on the water level, it will open or close an electrical circuit generally used to pump water in or out of the tank.
The float switch moves with the water level up and down. An internal mechanical switch opens or closes an electrical circuit with gravity. The electrical circuit can then be used to turn on/off equipment, like a water pump.
The float switch monitors the level of water in a tank. It then opens or closes an electrical circuit based on the water level and wiring to control external components.
The float switch is installed in a water tank. First, a pre-set level needs to be made and can be done with a counterweight. Then, based on a normally open or closed wiring configuration, the float switch will open or close the electrical circuit based on its movement up or down with the liquid level.
A float switch can be wired in the normally open or normally closed position. A normally open position is open when down (low water level) and a normally closed position is closed when down. The open or closed position refers to the electrical circuit.

Glad that I found your video. I had not considered a second float switch in my lower supply bulk tank, only in my upper house supply tank. Smart to protect the pump if the lower bulk tank level drops too low to refill the house supply tank.
Glad I could help
Useful for my case! And I have unused wires between the storage A and the house, where the storage B is installed! Thanks a lot.
Thanks for watching.
Thanks for sharing it with us... Very educative
Hi brother, i must be candid to you, you are doing a wonderful job to many people out here. Keep up the good work.
Thank you, I will
Thank you sir for your lovely video.I really appreciate it
Much to learn here. Thanks for the teachings, they are helpful to me.
Glad you like them!
Thank you very much for this information
Did this one following the same format and it was excellent.Shukran
👏🙏
Another great video. Thanks mang.
Super ,thankyou sir for every contributions you have made inthe electrical arena
Thanks and welcome👍
Thanks for the tutorial sir bless you ❤
Thanks for the video, could you kindly add a practical video whilst installing both in an upper tank and a water well
Thanks for the video it was helpful
This is very educative, thanks for sharing it with us...
Thanks for watching
Nice lesson.....good and clear
Respect again for these videos
Thank you
Thank you.but what if is one pump for the two tank
Thanks brother. Now I know what's a floater
thank you very much for your effort
Thanks Teacher 🙏
Thanks for that lecture,I really appreciate. Can you kindly do a video on voltage drop, how to calculate it and how size the right cable for various installations
Noted
Thanks
Thank you 👍
Nice job man
Thanks so much brother
Thanks alot!
For real this staff you are doing inanihelp kwanzo ile ya star delta🤝🤝🤝🤝7
Really good content
Thanks, this is very educative,.. I would love to ask regarding the floats switches that are connected in series, I understand that it's for a reason that all pump should pump at the same time..
But here is my question... WHAT HAPPENS IF I CONNECT THOSE FLOAT SWITCHES IN PARALLEL?
Thanks for video ❤️, but I have a question, can you actually connect the floater to the pump itself, or do you need to connect it to something else first?
More videos bro tunaenjoy sana
More video are coming and thanks for watching.
Thanks a lot bro
It is good man thanks
Hi, I like your video. Thanks
Thank you too
Wonderful keep it up
Thanks sir you are good
Hi, Dave ,
How are you sir ,thank for the video episode .
If I want install one float switch to the above tank do I do.
Please can one float switch use for this operation, I mean only in tank B to make the system work perfectly?
Is the float switch will be set in the tank please
Wow, am really impress bro, but u Don't finished the video sir, and question go like this if it's only one house how to do connect it?
I would like to know how to connect the two switches with a contactor
Nice Brother
How to connect those two floating switch to contactor
Thanks for the video but i am still asking on how to identify the common wire...please help me and many others
Kudos to you bro
Sir if the wires of the floating switch is brown blue and yellow which one at of them is live or source sir
This is a good teacher 👏🙏👏! I wanna learn more sir!!Do you have a video How to wire a contactor or sensors
This may help th-cam.com/video/4kEaUvvAgtE/w-d-xo.html
How can one build panel controlling 3 pump
please talk about rotary switches......
Do you offer online training
Indeed a winding data of 3 HP motor
Could you please elaborate more about the (Normally Closed) NC and Normally Open (NO) wires of the float switch. Why does tank B need its switch to be NC and why does tank A need its switch to be NO?
What happens to the ball inside the switch in the NC and NO operations
Good morning sir
How far can this float switch work from the pump. Can it pump from 20 km away from the tank.
Thank you very much, what, if it is a narrow fellow(submersible pump)?
It still works.
Great video ,many thanks
Have you got the wiring diagram of the dual tank system?
You mean the circuit for this two float switch wiring?
@@electreca1 Managed to find it your videos. Many thanks once again.
If you conect the two comun wires (blacks) how can you end up with two remaining wires blue and black???
Thank you eng devid
You are welcome
Good video. Question : was there there only one pump used to fill for both tanks? And secondly the tanks are independent ?
The pump only fill one tank, and the second tank is filled by gravity or by well in case its sump.
This is great!
In most cases people think of only overhead tank forgetting to protect the pump from incident where by supply won't be there when needed to feel the overhead tank.
Otherwise I think if you're getting supply direct from the swamp or River directly, then there won't be need for float switch in the side of underground tank. ❤
What causes decrease in pressure of water in wash basin
Interesting
So this works to break and make both DC and AC circuits right?
Thats correct
Which wire is the best to use to connect it
2.5mm minmum, the size can increase depending on the length of the wire.
Can you connect a float switch directly to a pump. For instance I have a simple garden pump connected to a tank that that I fill with greywater. Can I connect a float directly to the pump or should I rather use a relay switch?
You cant use float switch directly, use a contactor or relay.
@@electreca1 Can I ask why?
Please do we have 3phase float switch?
No, you don't need 3phase float switch because is just a control switch
Kindly share the circuit diagram of the two float switch connection
Pls how can we get the real connection diagram
Kindly talk about a float switch attached to pump deep down a well.thanks
Kindly watch this video here will help th-cam.com/video/FKzRX7uUswY/w-d-xo.html
Talk about how to connect a float switch to a submissive pump
Can a one float switch controls two tanks of water at the same level of the water
Yes, if the tanks are interconnected and served by one source.
Yes they re connecting together, thank sir
Happy last Sunday of the month sir, the black wire stand for supply right why the brown or blue stand for neutral sir.
Sir I want you to teach me how to connect one floating switch with a two tanks of water at the same levels sir
@@veporelijah2533 There is no neutral on the float switch.
Black wire is common/supply, brown wire supply the contactor if you want to fill the tank, blue wire supply the contactor if you want to empty the tank.
Watch that same video carefully and you will get the concept.
Hello i need books too
I still don't understand the connection
❤ he
You never connected the float to the pump
Draw a diagram
yeah that is not the way to do it ! if the float switch has any leakage you can create dangerous currents traveling up to the showerhead or tap. you need to wire it through a contactor especially with higher amps, float switches are not designed to run a motor directly. This is why we have electricians !
