thanks for your honest review, I appreciate it! :) it’s definitely not for everyone, but i knew that going into it! i tried to make the best product that i could for a specific group of people rather than a mediocre product for a larger group, so I totally understand your qualms. anyway, my one final request is that you try bubble tea because I promise that it is delicious 😉
I bought it. I've never been a fan of the bullet journal style plannering because the thought of setting things up just doesn't sound appealing to me. This is definitely more my style. Props to her for NOT making the months holiday themed as well.
Exactly how i felt! i’m way too lazy to draw the spreads out myself and i don’t have the time either, but i like how some of the designs are blank so i can color them in
I’m a perfectionist who ordered this journal because i’m a huge fan of her and i have to say i’m super impressed. I’m not good at doodling and i’m too lazy to draw out spreads myself so having everything already laid out with a handful of blank dot grid pages is perfect. Plus i love how i can color in some of the doodles.
If I used a bullet journal, I would definitely want something like this. It's pretty and doodled and I am not creative or blessed with the talent to create something like this. I think it would also be great for someone that is so busy, they need something already set up, or maybe for someone just starting out that needs the structure before they are able to create their own.
@@anonfm5569 mmm... it's not overpriced for its quality, Amanda explained it herself.. if you want, you can see her explanation, she did a video about the planner and she addressed this thing too, it's on her channel 💕🤗 but indeed it is expensive🙈
Rae erdna It may be good quality, but at the end of the day this is just a pre-printed planner with a couple of dot grid pages. For the actual product it is it is overpriced. I understand your point but spending $50 is just not my cup of tea.
@@anonfm5569 I kind of Agree. I really think since the pages are nice quality and it's all her own artwork, the price is fair. However, for me, I just dont think it would be worth it. I've never had a bullet journal before but to spend 50 dollars on something (PLUS shipping dollars) that I dont even know I'll use is too much. I'd rather spend 12 bucks on a blank one at Walmart and do it myself even if I'm not an artistic person. (This is coming from someone who hates spending money btw so yeah)
Olivia Scott Yup. I’m more willing to spend money on Lemome journals, or an archer and olive. (I’m in the uk btw, I’m just talking dollars, we don’t have Walmart and Michaels or target so it’s hard to find cheaper end bujos with good quality)
I think, as you said, Amanda created this journal for a very specific subset of people, and I think she's done a fantastic job of that. I really admire her for that and I think she's self-aware enough to market this not as a planner solution for the masses but for that group of people who connect with her style of planning. I think she's focused on the right things - quality of materials and consistency of style - and I wish her all the best with it. It's definitely not for me, but thankfully I haven't felt like anyone is pressuring me to buy it. It's there for a reason, and the people who want it will hopefully find success with it. Side note, bubble tea is amazing but also not for everyone hahah
She said on her Instagram that this is a planner and not a bullet journal. She says that she made it for her audiences that want something pretty but also just need something to plan with.
It's a planner, not a bullet journal. It's a cute planner for people who enjoy that style, but it's not a bullet journal for people who really want to use that method.
Lizzy Mizzy bullet journals are journals for you to customize yourself to your own needs. Planners are not customizable. Well not the layout at least. Also if you’ve watched Amanda introducing this planner. She said HERSELF that it is the 2020 doodle PLANNER
I guess it depends on your goals, and also your hobbies. I’ve tried bullet journaling and the setup is super time consuming especially since i have a full time job and most days i wanna just chill on the couch when i come home from work. Setting up the months ahead of time, and the trackers and calendars made me so tired, that when it came down to actually tracking things and writing stuff down I lost steam. I bought her planner in the hopes of actually reflecting on my life and tracking my habits and i feel like her journal will help me get there. I love that it has a little bit of the doodling factor where i can add my own touch to it like in the back pages i might use the spreads to create “polaroids of the year” or something. I also LOVE coloring so i feel like that will be super relaxing for me. Anyways, I’ve seen tons of planners out there and this to me is the best one I’ve seen. And yes, its not a blank bullet journal, but it definitely feels less intimidating than facing a sea of blank dotted pages imo :)
Bullet Journalling was never meant to be time consuming. It was made to fit your personal level of functioning. Definitely look up the original BuJo system without all of the bells and whistles that people have peer-pressured into it.
I rarely comment but since many people are looking a bullet journaling this time of year I'd thought I'd mention that at Walmart for $3.24 a dot grid journal next to the regular school composition notebooks. I picked one up today and it's pretty good quality especially if you're trying this out.
I love the Walmart exceed journals. There two last I checked a slimmer one that is just a dot grid and a thicker one. I've got both. The thicker one has index pages in front, numbered pages, and nice paper that feels a little coated (smooth for tombows if you like lettering and such). Super excited to use my exceed journal.
Love this! I always buy my journals from Walmart- I’ve never had an Archer and Olive or one of the popular journals but I feel like the Exceed brand gives me everything I need for a better price!
@@user-qs4oo4ki4t check out Typo, especially right now with the sales. They have finally gotten in to selling them, and are slowly (SLOWLY) getting more designs.
I wish there was a dot grid in the weekly spreads and I wish each weekly had a little bit different variation on the drawings, but I think it does work for non-drawing people.
Amberley Young my thoughts exactly. When Amanda does her weekly spreads she always has variation so it would’ve been nice to see something a little different week to week.
I'll admit, I'm probably the audience for these doodles. I'm not an artsy person and get disappointed when I try, tbh. It stresses me out to try to draw something cute only for it to look like something a possessed six-year-old would draw in a horror film. So, I could see myself enjoying coloring it in and making it pretty on top of the doodles. That being said, $45 is a bit steep for a basic planner. I can't get past that. I'm not a fan of all these v. expensive journals (*cough*A&O*cough*) that seem to be flooding the community, ESPECIALLY when it's content aimed at first-time journalers (which I feel this is probably for).
The price doesn't bother me because the quality of materials and it's all her original art work. She could've very well set the price for $75 but she did about $50. I think people need to understand that you shouldn't sell yourself short in regards to your artwork.
guys you can buy “exceed” journals from walmart they’re $6 usd, have 100 gsm, and u don’t have to worry about feeling guilty when u mess up bc it’s so cheap
Cindy: Having it already doodled for you takes the fun out of it. Also Cindy: Has badass doodling skills. I meannnnn if I could doodle like you, I'd probably want to do it myself too! It looks like a good option for people without skills if they're into this sort of thing. Not personally my jam either!
or a good option for ppl without time/motivation lol. i have the skills to doodle and i like the spreads i make, but i cant do it every single month ... then i just dont wanna bujo and i have huge gaps... i want the 2021 doodle planner
What i really appreciate is that she didnt put a single festivity or bank holiday, and the december spread isnt a xmas spread. Sure, some a more soring than others, but the themes are neutral enough so that if you are jewish, your planner doesnt say xmas, for example.
I was going to say the same thing! Also, December being a cityscape rather than, like, snowflakes or whatever is a little more inclusive of people who don't have cold Decembers -- like in the Southern U.S. or Australia.
Yes completely agree it also leaves out secular holidays like mothers/fathers day that are different internationally, tbf even within a single religion feasts and holidays can be different, Christmas for example is celebrated in January in orthodox and Coptic countries
Actually, I think that is what I miss about making my own calendar. Having to look up all holidays, and writing in all the namedays. Here it does not matter what religion you are, you know that some days, lots of things close and you had better be prepared, and some of those days tend to move around and sneak up on me. And I would want some winterscapes, compensating for these last measly grey winters ;) But again, every has their own preferences!
"Goddam Lavender" XD I love watching Amanda set up her bullet journal for the whole process of it, it's very soothing and relaxing for me. I don't have her (or your) doodling skills nor do I aspire to have them. I definitely see this planner filling a need and if I didn't have my own preferences getting in the way (it's waaay too thick for me! And I'm not an A5 fan), I think I would love this planner. All that said, I did watch her video announcing the planner and her story behind creating it and now that you've flipped through it, I am a little confused. She mentioned she'd been paying attention to which themes of her bullet journal were getting the most attention and love, and that was the basis of the 12 doodled themes in her planner. But I assumed by themes she meant how she literally doodled them into her bullet journal. But what it looks like on the planner is the same framework (from goals/faves pages, calendar, weeklies, mood tracker, etc) and ONLY THE DOODLES change, vs how they were originally created in her bullet journal. I think that contributes to the overall feeling of sameness (which makes sense in a planner, I get it). EDIT: Btw, bubble tea is AMAZING. 10/10 would recommend 👍🏼
I think it’s great! I’ve been using a bullet journal for productivity (not for creativity) since 2014. When pretty bujos got big on social media I tried to hop on board, and it totally ruined my experience. This is not a bullet journal-it’s a planner and it is a beautiful and useful one. I would totally use this alongside my normal bujo notebook.
Functionally, it looks like a great planner. It's very pretty, I like the doodles, and it seems like great quality. I think many people will probably love it. For myself, I prefer slightly less structure and more room for me to do my own thing. I don't think you're a curmudgeon for not liking it. A person's choice of planner is as individual as their personality. You do you, dude.
It’s super cute! And I don’t think folks that will buy this planner are big instagrammers themselves. They just follow others for ideas, and this planner hands them a pretty planner! I can’t imagine anyone expecting to build their own following would use a planner with someone else’s art in it. But maybe I expect too much!
Love the concept. Especially for those who want to billet journal but don’t want to create the layouts or don’t feel artsy. Personally - not for me - I have to let my creative juices flow. But Amanda has inspired me on a ton of layouts before - I’m excited she has ventured out into this - like you said - it fills a need in the community
*eta* I bit the bullet and bought it. Thanks for sharing, Cindy! If it wasn't so spendy, I would use something like this for a health planner. I need to keep track of like 20 medications, physical therapy exercises, pain management things like ice packs, heat, etc. I also like the mood tracker. It's something that I could just take to a doctor's appointment and be able to talk about symptoms, pain level, etc and it's all in one place.
I'm so happy to see this review! You always give a fair and complete review. I love Amanda and think she did a beautiful job on this planner. It's not for me but I'll bet a lot of people will love it.
I really like the idea of this planner and think it's important that it's being marketed as a Doodle Planner rather than a bullet journal. It isn't necessarily meant to be a bullet journal, just a planner with a bullet journaly doodly ascetic, in a way that reminds me of Happy Planner, which has lots of color and themes going on for it as well. If I hadn't set up a planner for next year, I would be tempted to get this since I enjoy bullet journaling for the coloring, not necessarily the drawing, and find myself doing the same layouts all the time anyway.
Dude! If I had not already figured out my set-up for next year I would be all over this book. Even with the palm fronds (Easter / Palm Sunday), lavender or succulents. I love bullet journaling. But there are times when life gets so busy that something like this would come in handy. But I would definitely be coloring with pencils, watercolors, etc. And I had never heard of AmandaRachLee before so I had to look her up.
I am disabled and as much as I love being creative and artistic i think that this would be great for me because it is already set up. I could still color, paint and draw to make it unique but i would be able to use it without doing anything. It's too expensive for me but i do really love the idea and I'm glad it wasn't seasonal too.
I follow Amanda. I love her videos. I'm not a Lil Doodle. I think this is a great idea; but like you, I wouldn't use it. I don't think it's overpriced at all considering the paper quality and the fact that it's already decorated. The convenience is what you're paying for. I have never seen bubble tea in real life, only in her videos. I thought it was a Canadian thing. She knows her audience and is good at catering to them. While I follow her and watch ALL of her videos, I'm not her target audience. 45 y/o single mom. I vacillate between minimalist BuJo, decorative BuJo, and then just not fuckin with my BuJo. 🤷🏾♀️ So I agree with you - it's nice, just not for me. Why do I follow and watch? Her stationery addiction resonates with me. I'm looking forward to your 2020 BuJo journey! 🤗
I bought this when it launched. I’m not a doodler and don’t have time to set all this up but I don’t want my plain rolling task list for my personal stuff. I’ll be using it just for personal/home things like finances/habits etc. I’ll color it in every month. But I totally get your reservations and feel them myself...I appreciate your criticisms of the aesthetic bujo community. I look at Happy Planners and feel disgust...the Erin Condren layouts don’t speak to me. A lot of planners (and the planner community) seem geared towards stay-at-home-moms and that’s not my life. This seems like a nice medium between those planners and a blank bujo I’d have to set up every month. My planner for work? Totally different - I’m moving from a bujo to a binder system with plain and ultra functional project planning and rolling tasks.
So I've watched her in the past and her Bujo is inspiring. However, this takes away everything I love about bullet journaling, which is the freedom to change it as I need it and making my journal a crafty/artsy outlet. Great for those her love her and love the themes but I change the my bujo themes weekly, according to my mood.
I feel like it is very pretty and I can see how some people would want it, but I use almost a whole page per day in my bujo, so it doesn't give me enough room to get all of my shit down that I need to do. Aka... I write big hahaha. I do appreciate that the weekend is not bundled together or smaller than the other days tho. That is a huge plus up from me (retail worker who has a non-traditional weekend).
I think my only problem with it is the price. I know it’s probably a fair price for the quality etc but I just can’t afford to pay that much for a planner (plus shipping) - even though I’d love to buy it.
I LOVE this planner!! I love the look and chunkiness and the doodles and the layout. I get that it’s not for everyone, but NO planner/bujo is for everyone. I read a lot of comments that came across as critical of the planner simply because it wouldn’t work for them for various reasons. That doesn’t feel like a fair assessment of the product itself. [I don’t know what I’m trying to say here. I’ve never watch ARL videos and have no reason to feel defensive. Fucking PMS!] I am just finishing up the STM A5 bullet planner and will return to my Jane’s Agenda discbound bujo. The ARL planner is very much like the STM layout, which I do like, but my life is basically same shit, different day. I don’t need much daily space so I’m going back to a rolling list. I’ve been covering up the space with stickers (from Planning With Kay) so it’s pretty to look at, and I can use it and justify buying it in the first place. 😜 But I do want to hug this planner and pet its pages! 🤣 It’s beautiful and perfect for the people it’s perfect for. Great review, Cindy!
I already knew I wouldn’t like it after trying to use the Scribbles That Matter bullet planner. But I am hoping she releases notebooks and whatnot in the future. I love her stuff because she makes doodling pretty accessible.
AmandaRachLee has done an amazing job creating this journal. I follow her and while I am in my 70s, her target audience is for the younger group. I think this product is perfect for those who want a stylish journal already made for them. Some will enjoy decorating each page with colour or more doodles. And while I think Amanda will do well with this, I also prefer to make my own designs for each month. This is mostly because I am an artist wannbe. My designs aren't polished like most of the youtubers, including yours, but I like my pages and my journal is a reflexion of me.
I am a college student that has a lot of requirements and assignments to do. And I tried to bullet journal or planner on my first semester and it was too tedious for me. As soon as I found out that Amanda was releasing a doodle planner, I was excited. Cause now I can just concentrate on my planning and possibly use the coloring aspect to release stress from school, work and life. This product for me is well thought of and will be a big help for viewers like me. Thank you for the flip through (mine hasn't arrived yet), it got me more excited to use it :)
here are some journal recommendations at a good price point !! • midori journal (grid , lined and blank) - paper quality is good , the only downside is that there aren’t as many pages as you may need , it’s about 3/4 of a leuchtturm - i believe they sell diaries and planners as well but I’ve never tried it • an essentials journal ( good quality , about 192 pages ) - www.amazon.com/gp/product/1441311335/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=tbhstudying-20&camp=1789&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=1441311335&linkId=1aef53ae5ebc6b788e388117ec72d8da • check out tokyo hands products , it’s a shop and they have a website too. - things may get pricey here though - www.tokyu-hands.co.jp/en/ • muji journals ( for their price) - I’ve found that their paper quality isn’t as good as before. I’ve been using their planner and sometimes my brush pens seep through - one journal I’d definitely recommend is their silver ringed dot grid journal , it’s pretty good and the paper quality is better than the rest all the best in your journaling adventures ! if you want some more recommendations, hmu on my ig @mint._.study or on TH-cam @ mintstudy
i think youre justified in your opinion of the art because your an artist. I LOVE the idea and layout and everything about this planner because im crafty just not good at drawing or lettering. so this is PERFECT for a bujo style for me. i already have enough planners tho currently, i like it a lot more than the scribbles bullet planner. each day has a box in this one lol
I bought this planner, the black color and I'm going to use it for 2020. I use the hobonichi a6 for journaling and I needed a planner for other things. I was attracted to this because of how everything was set up simply for the user and how I can color in/add washi tape without having to customize everything myself, especially since I've never had a bullet journal before, am not artistic, and don't have a lot of time. I have been following her for a few months now and while I love her bullet journal designs, I just don't have the time and ability to make designs - and I think that's probably the case for a lot of people, and she's said that's mostly the target audience. I also love how thick it is 💕
Thank you for your review. In watching & admiring Amanda I never dreamed that there would be a planner or journal with her doodles pre done. I love it!!! I've ruined several less expensive bullet journals due to my lack of artistic ability. I love love this!!
I just started bullet journaling this year. I love having an attractive planner to trick myself into being more productive, but when I got particularly busy I found myself setting it aside. I had trouble making time to do the spreads. I am giving it another go this year, but if I have the same issue again, I think I will buy something like this for 2021.
I thought the doodles and hand lettering would be light gray so people could practice tracing and adding their own color and flair? Like a workbook plus bullet journal. 🤨 easier to cover with stickers and washi too....
James Lawrence i mean it’s a planner so it’s more for people who don’t want to or have time to do a bullet journal. i don’t think this is meant for practicing bullet journaling as much.
I absolutely agree with you on this one. I love ARL and I watch all of her videos. I think this is a beautiful journal for someone who wants something more artistic but doesn't feel they are artistic enough to do it themselves. I've made partially-doodled journals for friends and family in the past where I did the monthly spreads, basic weekly setup, some specialized pages here and there, and let them fill in the rest - these were always well-received by my self-labeled "not artsy" peeps (who turned out to love my drawing challenge pages the most!). This is something I would definitely gift to others in that way. For my own journal/planner, I like the creativity of drawing it myself and the flexibility to change things up. Thanks as always for your video.
Lol! Vegan leather. In 1975 an actor named Ricardo Montalban (Fantasy Island dude) did a commercial for the Chrysler Cordoba that boasted Rich Corinthian Leather seats. Synthetic leather. But when you call it Rich Corinthian Leather it sounds luxurious, right? Same with Vegan Leather. It's synthetic, but makes everyone feel better for not using animal skin.
I’m of two minds. How great would this be for a person who doesn’t have superior doodling skills? This planner could almost persuade me to the BUJO side of the street. But...I don’t like entire sections, I.e., the astrological doodles - ick! But then there is the December cityscape...melts my heart. However, the big downfall is that it doesn’t encourage me to practice my own drawing skills. To put my beginner doodles next to these would be disheartening. But to build my own doodles and watch them improve throughout the year, without comparisons to a skilled doodler, does excite me. I guess I’d rather do it myself!
I love mine. I've never bullet journaled before. I can't do lettering or drawings, so I think my own attempts would leave me discouraged. But I'm really excited for the creative outlet and organisation, so I think this is a safe way to get into it that will look beautiful too. I'm gonna use a second dotted journal to invent my own spread creations for projects.
I feel you. You’re not being negative, but I’d say it’s for the less creative in the department of drawing and doodling. However, a lot of people are like that. Some people just like to color, so this is right Yo their alley.
I followed Amanda and have watched every one of her videos. I was thinking of picking this up to support my fellow Canadian, but it was a hefty price tag for something already completed...again I would rather create my own and use Ryder's basic method if I choose to...I like the idea of more space so I can use it any way I want instead of just having limited weekly space for a "To Do" list. I am so excited (got inspired from watching Cindy). I finally ordered by first copy of the Power Sheets Goal Planner and an Erin Condren from Amazon. In the past I've used a Happy Planner and lately have just been bullet journaling. I get bored so easy and my needs change month to month so I like my own stuff :) I really want to use all three in tandem like Cindy but I find it takes a lot more time, especially setting up and planning for filming :) I won't be doing Plan As You Go (Mine are more on a weekly basis), but I LOVE LOVE LOVE watching Cindy do hers. I will be watching for sure in January!!!
"I don't know what the fuck bubble tea....." it was that line that made me click subscribe. This is my type of youtuber. Have never seen another video but that was the best!
First time visiting your channel and I'm definitely a fan. (new subscriber here) That was a great review. Thorough , and you were clear as to what was a personal preference and what was a possible downside. I could see using this planner if I was too busy to design my own. I love amandarachlee's style and love the set up (except for the lack of dot grid in the daily spread.
This is a perfect beginners journal. I’m horrible at drawing and this takes away my anxiety about ruining a beautiful journal. It gives me a blueprint of styles, trackers, and spreads that work or don’t work for me. I can then use mu experience with this to do my own journal with confidence!
Just here to chime in about boba/bubble tea. It's one of my favorite things :) And it's not specifically an age/generational thing, although I will say that I'm Asian-American, so maybe it's less generational for me. *shrug* Anyway, it's good stuff if you like something to chew with your drink, haha
I love her formatting but wish there were a more masculine version of this for men...In the meantime I'll just need to buy this for my wife and steal the format to copy in my bujo...
@@zahza2707 well it’s cute though, and whatever your gender identity, it’s nice to have things that aren’t cute sometimes. Planners and washi and a lot of things tend to lean pastel pink bows. You’re right though, this isn’t explicitly a ‘girl-boss’ situation like some other planners. And for her target audience I think the designs are great, if very simple for the price tag.
My husband ordered this for me for Christmas! I love bullet journaling but I am now pregnant and I don’t have the energy to put my time into it. And I predict when the baby is born, I’m going to have no time to bullet journal. I figured this would be perfect because I still have the creativity but I don’t have to doodle things myself, which is time consuming.
I kept a bullet journal last year because I love productivity and being organized, and art is definitely something I enjoy. but what made it difficult is that art, especially for a perfectionist, takes a long time, but time passes by quickly and I could never catch up. the main reason I stopped keeping a bullet journal was because I didn't have time to make spreads anymore, but then I found myself falling behind in productivity again. this was honestly the perfect solution to that. however, I don't know if I would buy this for myself since it's so expensive but it makes for a nice gift if you know someone who journals! my brother got it for me for christmas :))
Majority of people, including myself, have no consistency with bullet journal. And as much as I want good doodles and artsy spreads, I simply don’t have the time to do that. So yeah, buying this “planner” with designs I like instead of having a “bullet journal” will really help me to be more productive and use it and it think that’s what really matters here
I love the review. so honest. If I was just starting out in doing a planner, i would try it, just to make sure i didn't go crazy with buying all the stickers and other fun stuff first. but I have a EC that i love and over the years, love all the freedom to customize my pages. Great review.
Thank you for reviewing this. I was one of those people asking for it. I love the concept, but there are so many pages I wouldn’t use. I decided to go with the STM A5 Bullet Planner for 2020, same layout basically but not doodled or dated.
I think your review was well thought out and on point. You did not bash the product you gave good Pros and Cons. I personally love the cover and wish I could find a clean dotted bullet journal that looks just like this.
this is really gorgeous and I have to agree... I detest planners/day timers/bujo's anyway because I don't like that style of record keeping... and this is really wonderful for someone who does love that style and can really run with the themes
Thanks for the review Cindy. I was looking at this planner but was scared of the paper. I really, strongly dislike (read: hate) bright white paper (which is why I don't use a Happy Planner despite being a disc-bound planner-loving girl), and gosh darn it this planner is WAAAAAAYYYYY too expensive. That's it. The pre-drawn spreads work for those who can't put in the time or know how to draw, but it doesn't leave much room for anything else. I see that there's no space for collections either, which most bullet journallers have. I wonder why.
Thank you for the flip through. This is exactly for someone like me. I absolutely don't have time to make my own spreads, and having everything predated / preworded / predesigned is perfect for me. I get to enjoy something pretty and get the functionality I desperately need without trying to force it out of myself. I can totally see how this would not be for everyone, especially if you find great joy in creating your spreads. There is definitely an audience for this, though!
Go ahead and review it honestly. I respect your opinion. I’m 40 and I ordered one of these because I love to journal, but as a working mom I’m busy and my Bujo wasn’t getting used as much because of time. This will allow me to have the calendar, trackers and such there and it becomes a useful, pretty tool. Thanks for your review.
I have this journal, and I love it. The paper is high quality and the doodles are soooo cute. I think there is plenty of space to add your own doodles to the monthly theme.
I have been a fan of Amanda for a long time and I have always dreamed of having a bullet journal, but I am so bad at drawing, so when I saw she was making a doodle planner I was thrilled! My bf got it for me as a Christmas gift and I can’t wait to use it. I love every single months design since I saw her making them on her videos. This planned is obviously for people who don’t have time to dedicate on a bullet or journal or those like me who don’t have the skills and the talent to make beautiful drawings like hers.
I like it because it serves several types of people, having black and white doodles you have the opportunity to color them your way, with the colors and styles that you like the most. But at the same time the design is very tumblr. And obviously, it is designed for those people who may not have the time or resources to make their own bullet journal at hand. But anyway you can color it to your liking and give it your personalized and special touch. It fascinates me, but being honest I would not buy it for myself because I like to make my own bullet journal, I like to use my hands and my artistic skills to elaborate it. (It feels great to do it by yourself) So I also invite you to watch Amanda's videos and be guided with her MONTHLY SET UP and it will be fantastic. And I repeat again Amanda's work is amazing and we should support her and her new projects. I also make and sell handmade bullet journals, so I know that we all like to support us in our projects.
I'm an Amanda follower and I was sad / struggling to purchase the 2020 bujo or not. Cause I realized I'm not always up for a doodle-y spread person every month. So I hoped this bujo, would help me out. But thanks to your review, I'm relieved I'm not missing out too much. Plus, I have to agree that, having the same template every week inside a month a bit turn off/boring (?). Thank you for your honest video.
Explaining vegan leather (and vegan anything tbh): polyurethane doesn’t tell regular folks what the material is like. Textured vegetable protein doesn’t tell what the flavor/texture resembles. Referencing nonvegan items provides context so we can shop for what we’re looking for.
I bought it to support Amanda. I still bought a BUJO to use in 2020 that I will do for myself. It’s amazing quality and perfect for those that don’t have the time or the confidence to do one on their own. Go Amanda go!
I ordered this planner. I do have a bullet journal, but as a student I don’t always have the time to plan and doodle sophisticated things. For me this planner would be perfect to use. I will use my bujo as some kind of diary or art journal instead, only when I really have time or want to spend time on doing artsy stuff.
I recognize this is a year old- but I bought this because drawing and art is not my strong suite (on paper). I love color and creativity but I also love perfection.... and clean lines. This takes all that specific stress out. I love planning and I love tracking so this is helpful, and I can add back in color when I want to but when I’m lazy it’s all already there! Plus, I think it’s a good stepping stone for anyone who isn’t committed to jumping into bullet journaling yet.
I want a perfect mix. Blank weeks, but designed monthly cover pages and collections pages. I want pretty collection pages lol and i do like how beautiful having a nice monthly cover page is but I can't do that ish. I'm with you in the drive me crazy week after week though.
if you’re looking for a good beginning bullet journal look for the exceed journals at walmart they’re dirt cheap but have 100 gsm paper and hold up pretty well over time i’ve used up two over the course of 6 months hahah the good thing is that it’s so cheap that you don’t feel guilty for using the pages or messing up and wasting one because it’s literally $6
I absolutely love this journal, it's my dream, cause ive always wanted a aesthetic bujo but am not that good at it. I saw this and fell in love with it. Unfortunately it will cost a lot to get it to Australia, over 100 im sure :( but still love it
Big ARL fan and I love this for people who aren't as gifted with the pen or just don't have time. It's also a great starter for someone new to bulet journaling. Not too complicated, the basics are there and it takes to pressure of white space from the equation. Definitely a niche project, but still a great product.
As someone who isn’t in the “community” (besides watching every video you post, I don’t really view much BUJO or planner things anymore. So I get what you mean about things being over saturated!!) I can’t doodle to save my life this is beyond exciting! This absolutely will be a perfect fit for personal bed journal!
I will be ordering this after Christmas. With my Christmas money! Lmao. And I can not wait for it. I tried three different notebooks for my bullet journaling and I can’t find anything I like. It will help not to come up with ideas myself because I am bad at it. Lol. I can’t wait. I love your review. Yes the journal may not be for everyone but it’s a good started maybe. Also I noticed the prints on the cover is for each month theme. I really like that.
I was surprised that since she has a much younger demographic, that she went with a planner at such a high price point. She definitely got a lot of comments that the cost was too high. It is a planner, not a bullet journal --- it's really no different than any other planner on the market when it comes down to it. It's the same format for the whole year with different monthly themes. It has some doodles and a few extras, but it's a planner with a nice cover and thick paper. I was expecting her to have some more original things throughout and give people a way to try out different styles of habit trackers and weekly layouts, collections, etc. I think had she done that and added her artwork, it would have had more of a interesting factor to me. As is, it's a very expensive planner. It does save people the time from doodling, but I suspect a lot of her audience takes time and enjoys some aspect of creativity and enjoys taking time for their planners... I was waiting to see how quickly they sold out (she had done limited quantities and urged people to buy as soon as it launched) but she still has some available which perhaps is telling 🤷♀️ In any case, I did watch her video showing some of the process and her rough drafts, and her feelings and emotions... it does seem like an incredible amount of work and something she was very proud of. I am happy for her that she completed this goal and that many fans will enjoy having something she personally curated.
Just watched this review and wished I had seen it before I bought my Happy planner. I will buy one like this next year. Pretty themes that I can color and make my own, I can use stickers and plenty of soy pages if I feel the need to add something. Win win. Thanks for the review otherwise I would never have know this existed. 😘
I agree with what you said about the conformity. But I also agree with it definitely helping meet a need of others in the community. You made some great points! Wonderful review!
I'm enjoying Micahels' new offering- the a5 journal with six months worth of monthlies, mood trackers, to-do list, habit trackers in the front of the book followed by loads of blank, dot grid pages afterwards. It gives me the structure of the stuff that I hate to draw out and then the flexibility to make my days/weeks look however I want them to. Plus, I'm a major paper snob- they have to play well with my fountain pens (archer and olive does NOT)-- and this planner does. $9 at Michaels for the win. I'd like to see you take a look at that or just hear your thoughts! Nice review- thanks. Also, not for me.
I could never really get into bullet journaling as I need to put stuff in way in advance and I didn't make the time to sit and fiddle with different spreads every week, so I went back to regular calendars. I am super stoked to get my doodle planner for the reasons you mentioned in the video, high quality aesthetic planner with bullet journal elements that I won't have to do myself!
I appreciate your views and effort to make this video! I personally get lazy to do bullet journaling bcuz i like the aesthetics of it but i don’t have the art talent. These kind of products would really suit me. Everyone has different preferences and I respect yours!
At almost $50 for a notebook, my takeaway from this is that she is going to make BANK. I can see this being useful for some who want a graphically intense planner and like to color and decorate, but don't have time or skill to do it. It's cute, but not my thing.
I bought this planner and I absolutely love it !!! I am making it my own by adding stickers and washi tape. It saves me the time of having to draw all the monthly lay outs.
I don’t feel one needs to worry about conformity being a consequence. Yes, it’s not entirely off the table. It could happen. However, I personally see this product making more of a positive impact. What Amanda created here is a pre-made+diy journal that is in fact going to encourage a lot more people to become a part of the journaling community. She’s trying to make a larger group feel welcome; people who either can’t commit to daily spreads or feel like they lack the needed skills.
The reason I like bujoing is the meditative process of drawing out my spreads! That, plus having a planning system that is completely my own because I choose the layouts, which spreads and collections are included, and also subject to change as my planning needs change are the top aspects of why the bujo system works for me. This planner eliminates those aspects of it, so it wouldn't be for me either. Also after trying an archer and olive, I've found that the paper is too stiff and cardboard-y for me, so the paper wouldn't be my choice either.
That said, I think it would have been smart of her to also come out with a more bare bones style planner with just plain monthly, weekly, etc spreads and keeping the dot grid. Then the people who hate the counting of dots in a dot grid and making the actual layouts, but who like doing their own art/doodles/lettering could have their needs met.
Hi Cindy loved this review! I started my planner journey with bullet journaling and I was heavily inspired by Amanda and her spreads. Used to be a hardcore fan of hers and I still love her and admire her efforts to brand herself as a youtuber/influencer. Anyways my planning style has changed a lot. I don’t bullet journal as much anymore which meant I watched her videos less and less throughout this year. I still think she’s kills it when it comes to aesthetically pleasing bujo/planner content and I think her doodle planners are beautiful however, even for someone like me who is considered as part of her target audience (I am around her age and I immerse myself into many forms of planning), I still gave it a pass. I like to add my own stamp or personal touch to my planners, just like you! I feel like this kind of planner is only perfect for those who would like an aesthetically pleasing planner without having to do all of the work- it’s convenient and it’s not really a bad thing. Also you made a point though, I don’t think I am looking forward to the upcoming mass Instagram posts and plan with mes of basically the same spreads... I honestly don’t know how to feel about it.
i think the point is that amanda made this to be a *planner* and not a bullet journal. your review of it shows that you, as a bullet journalist, don’t love it because you like the process of bullet journaling. i don’t think she made it so that people will post it on their instagram as their “bullet journal” because that’s not what it is. it’s totally okay and understandable that it’s not your cup of tea, but i think that objectively, as a *planner*, it is well-designed and well-executed. i just feel like you are reviewing it with the idea of it being a bullet journal when that’s not what she intended it to be.
I could see this being a good planner for someone like me who likes the idea of a bullet journal, but can't draw/doesn't like their own style. I get that it would be terrible for someone with your skills. But this would be more ideal for someone who enjoys coloring or just wants something that looks nice to begin with. I think you can still add flair to it in terms of how you color/write in the book. They may be uniform in theme, but I think they still end up unique to some extent.
I could never use the same theme all month. I agree there is too much artwork on each page so covering up would be insane. Also, I thought the few weekly PWM’s I watched of Amanda’s had different weekly layout styles. I was surprised to see each week exactly the same format for the entire year. I actually like the Amy Tangerine Archer planner much better than this one, while it has color it seems more put together for my taste. Great video as always!
thanks for your honest review, I appreciate it! :) it’s definitely not for everyone, but i knew that going into it! i tried to make the best product that i could for a specific group of people rather than a mediocre product for a larger group, so I totally understand your qualms. anyway, my one final request is that you try bubble tea because I promise that it is delicious 😉
10/10 agree that you should try bubble tea Cindy *heart eye emoji*
You are class!! @amandarachlee
I need to learn what bubble tea is as well. Bubble water is my jam! Like, sparkling water. I just call it bubble water.... Anyway... 😁
Had I not received a planner as a gift from my officemate, I would have bought this. I’m looking forward for the 2021 :)
WORD to the Bubble Tea-- Taro is my fave. Ummmm... now I want one.
I bought it. I've never been a fan of the bullet journal style plannering because the thought of setting things up just doesn't sound appealing to me. This is definitely more my style. Props to her for NOT making the months holiday themed as well.
Oh I didn't even realize that. That IS pretty awesome!! :D
Yes I love the fact she left the holidays out too. I’m so excited to use mine. Gonna start filling it out today.
Exactly how i felt! i’m way too lazy to draw the spreads out myself and i don’t have the time either, but i like how some of the designs are blank so i can color them in
yes. yes. yes!!! exactly my thoughts!
MelissyJo wait... why is holiday theme bad?
I’m a perfectionist who ordered this journal because i’m a huge fan of her and i have to say i’m super impressed. I’m not good at doodling and i’m too lazy to draw out spreads myself so having everything already laid out with a handful of blank dot grid pages is perfect. Plus i love how i can color in some of the doodles.
Mariah Michelle same!! I got the grey 🙌🏻
Yes, I am over the moon in love with this!
Mariah Michelle sameee I was SO IMPRESSED with the quality WOW
If I used a bullet journal, I would definitely want something like this. It's pretty and doodled and I am not creative or blessed with the talent to create something like this. I think it would also be great for someone that is so busy, they need something already set up, or maybe for someone just starting out that needs the structure before they are able to create their own.
Angie Mondragon
Only thing stopping me is, the overpriced $50 price tag.
@@anonfm5569 mmm... it's not overpriced for its quality, Amanda explained it herself.. if you want, you can see her explanation, she did a video about the planner and she addressed this thing too, it's on her channel 💕🤗 but indeed it is expensive🙈
Rae erdna
It may be good quality, but at the end of the day this is just a pre-printed planner with a couple of dot grid pages.
Olivia Scott
Yup.
Ros Clarke Craft it is a bullet journal and I have one you are wrong
@@lizzymizzy1553 It's not a bullet journal, Amanda said so herself. It's a planner.
Lizzy Mizzy bullet journals are journals for you to customize yourself to your own needs. Planners are not customizable. Well not the layout at least. Also if you’ve watched Amanda introducing this planner. She said HERSELF that it is the 2020 doodle PLANNER
Very well said🙌
@Lizzy Mizzy you obviously do not know the bullet journal system. This is a planner inspired from Amanda's bullet journal, not a bullet journal itself
Sydni A Underwood no way! At office works it costs over $20 aud
I’m getting a Walmart bullet journal for Christmas, I’m so excited!
Agree
Danielle Lacey me too
$45us is $60Cdn, plus shipping tax?! This would be a $70 journal in Canada. Yikes.
The price doesn't bother me because the quality of materials and it's all her original art work. She could've very well set the price for $75 but she did about $50. I think people need to understand that you shouldn't sell yourself short in regards to your artwork.
If your drawings look like possessed 6-year old's, I would follow your planner IG in a heartbeat!
guys you can buy “exceed” journals from walmart they’re $6 usd, have 100 gsm, and u don’t have to worry about feeling guilty when u mess up bc it’s so cheap
Cici Gibs 🤣
You can’t practice if you don’t try!
Jade Isabelle you can always practice in the dot grid part 👍🏼
or a good option for ppl without time/motivation lol. i have the skills to doodle and i like the spreads i make, but i cant do it every single month ... then i just dont wanna bujo and i have huge gaps... i want the 2021 doodle planner
“Let’s just say I like it thick” 🤣
Raqueal Henry 😂😂
Don't we all?
Amen!
Right! I caught that too. LMBO 🤣
@@beckacheck Yep! I live in Phoenix, Az and the last time I saw snow here was...never. And that's just the way I like it lol
And I would want some winterscapes, compensating for these last measly grey winters ;)
But again, every has their own preferences!
"Goddam Lavender" XD
I love watching Amanda set up her bullet journal for the whole process of it, it's very soothing and relaxing for me.
I think this is great for lazy people like me. If she could just colour it in, it would be ideal. 😂
I'm a little late on this, but I completely agree. It would be great to have both a colored and black and white version.
Totally with you on this one! Exactly same demographic as you too! Maybe you are me? Lol 😁
Bubble tea is a Taiwanese thing, haha. But has become more and more popular in the United States and Canada.
Are we siblings? Lololol the same thoughts and experience. 🤗
This is so me. Well, only I'm 37 and married. But everything you just said, yep! All me.
• midori journal (grid , lined and blank)
- paper quality is good , the only downside is that there aren’t as many pages as you may need , it’s about 3/4 of a leuchtturm
- i believe they sell diaries and planners as well but I’ve never tried it
• an essentials journal ( good quality , about 192 pages )
- www.amazon.com/gp/product/1441311335/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=tbhstudying-20&camp=1789&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=1441311335&linkId=1aef53ae5ebc6b788e388117ec72d8da
• check out tokyo hands products , it’s a shop and they have a website too.
- things may get pricey here though
- www.tokyu-hands.co.jp/en/
• muji journals ( for their price)
- I’ve found that their paper quality isn’t as good as before. I’ve been using their planner and sometimes my brush pens seep through
- one journal I’d definitely recommend is their silver ringed dot grid journal , it’s pretty good and the paper quality is better than the rest
all the best in your journaling adventures ! if you want some more recommendations, hmu on my ig @mint._.study or on TH-cam @ mintstudy
i think youre justified in your opinion of the art because your an artist.
I was waiting for you to say, “get off my lawn” at some point during your old-lady-esque grumble at the end there, says the crone on TH-cam. 🤣🤣🤣
Have never seen another video but that was the best!
and the "goddamn lavender" is the bell. one video in and you are my new fave!!
i'm so happy you made this because i was curious about what the planner on the inside looks like
First time visiting your channel and I'm definitely a fan.
Adam Scott Hey, anything can be masculine, this isn't necessarily feminine
@@zahza2707 well it’s cute though, and whatever your gender identity, it’s nice to have things that aren’t cute sometimes. Planners and washi and a lot of things tend to lean pastel pink bows. You’re right though, this isn’t explicitly a ‘girl-boss’ situation like some other planners. And for her target audience I think the designs are great, if very simple for the price tag.
@@jameslawrence6710 I suppose so. Not everyone likes pastel colours
For me, I like continuity. So the fact that the weekly pages are doodled the same is something I like lol.
I absolutely love this!!!! I cannot draw for toffee so this would suit me to the ground, send it my way Cindy 😍😛xx
****
I really like the habit tracker and mood tracker pages. I would probably use a planner like this as a wellness journal.
if you’re looking for a good beginning bullet journal look for the exceed journals at walmart they’re dirt cheap but have 100 gsm paper and hold up pretty well over time
i’ve used up two over the course of 6 months hahah
the good thing is that it’s so cheap that you don’t feel guilty for using the pages or messing up and wasting one because it’s literally $6
I’m glad to have a review on this. I think it’s great that somebody came out with a quality product that has an audience. It’s not for everybody.
I was waiting to see how quickly they sold out (she had done limited quantities and urged people to buy as soon as it launched) but she still has some available which perhaps is telling 🤷♀️
In any case, I did watch her video showing some of the process and her rough drafts, and her feelings and emotions... it does seem like an incredible amount of work and something she was very proud of.
Oooo, I really want that planner. Thanks for your review!
"i dont know wtf is bubble tea"
im dead 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
i think the point is that amanda made this to be a *planner* and not a bullet journal. your review of it shows that you, as a bullet journalist, don’t love it because you like the process of bullet journaling. i don’t think she made it so that people will post it on their instagram as their “bullet journal” because that’s not what it is. it’s totally okay and understandable that it’s not your cup of tea, but i think that objectively, as a *planner*, it is well-designed and well-executed. i just feel like you are reviewing it with the idea of it being a bullet journal when that’s not what she intended it to be.
I love your honesty! This notebook is so for me!!! I love to create for my own stuff but i struggled keeping up with it last year! 💞
It is what i call a gateway planner. More artistic then cleverfox planner that i am using. Might be going full bujo next year
I could see this being a good planner for someone like me who likes the idea of a bullet journal, but can't draw/doesn't like their own style. I get that it would be terrible for someone with your skills. But this would be more ideal for someone who enjoys coloring or just wants something that looks nice to begin with. I think you can still add flair to it in terms of how you color/write in the book. They may be uniform in theme, but I think they still end up unique to some extent.
I am literally so mad it costs less for you than me, someone in the same damn city as her 😥😥 I appreciate the review 100% though.
