He was referring to Johnny Gray’s stride length during an all-out 800m race. Gray was similar to other long-striding 800m runners who have appeared throughout history-legendary athletes like John Woodruff, Arthur Wint, and Alberto Juantorena. They all had massive strides that approached 9 feet.
