Brad Nowell’s mother (nurse) saved my son’s life when he was an infant, he had a respiratory infection that nearly killed him. We spent a lot of time w/ her during his recovery period and told us stories about Brad, and told us that she felt it redeeming that she could help to save someone else’s life after the loss of her own child. Forever grateful and will never forget. And yes, great talent and band…RIP Brad 🎗️
Beautiful. Glad your child is okay. The nurse sounds like she found her purpose
What a beautiful way of remembering such a talented young man ❤
Thank you for sharing this with us ❤🇨🇦
BTW...love the dire straits reference of username 👍🏻🎸
What a beautiful precious memory. Thank you for sharing with us. Rest in Peace Bradley
@@tonyascarlett2413 🙏✌️
Beautiful story!! Thank you for sharing it with us!!❤❤❤❤❤❤
Yes, the ghostly visage is Bradly Nowell, lead singer/guitarist. He died right before this album released, heroin overdose I believe. RIP Brad.
Yes, unfortunately, it was an overdose. Truly a great loss, one of many legendary artists from the '90's era gone before his time. R.I.P. To all of them:
- Bradly Nowell
- Layne Staley
- Kurt Cobain
- Chris Cornell
- Scott Weiland
- Andrew Wood
- Chester Bennington
- Dave Williams
- And many more. . . .
I've been suggesting some Tom T. Hall.. for a while.. to no awhile.
I was a block away when it happened 😔
Bu the time they broke with this album Brad already died. Everyone was very conscious of it at the time. Wrong Way and Caress Me Down are two more you should check out.
God that is so so sad- what a beautiful way to honor him
Brad’s son Jakob is finally emotionally ready to fill his dad’s shoes and join his uncles on stage. They’ve played a bit but their real debut will be at Coachella.
My favorite Sublime song of all time. This video is a tribute to Bradley Nowell who died.Lou Dog The Dalmation was his dog.Tiny (Deebo)Lister has also passed away back in 2020.
Props to Lou Dog....in the van. 😉
I’ve never understood how a song with such sad (and violent) lyrics still make you groove like you’re sitting on an island. Interesting song.
Lou Dog sitting looking at Bradley’s ghost got me.
I didn’t hear about Tiny Lister passing. That makes me sad. Way before Friday, I remember seeing him in an HBO series called 1st & 10, a fictional behind the scenes of an NFL team.
@@donjackson5522 Tiny played the President in the 5th Element. I loved he got to do that part.
"Bad Fish" and "40 oz. To Freedom" 😊
They'll love Badfish!
Rip Bradley Nowell. Love his voice so much
I guess I've never seen this video. It was made after Brad had died, so it's just his bandmates and his dog, and Brad's spirit. That's heartbreaking.
Two great classic summertime albums by this band. Tons of character in those songs, and great bass and guitar. Loved this band. Check out Badfish, or Summertime.
Doin' Time(Summertime)
@@ronnelson7828 That's the one 👍
BOUT TIME!!! ♥️💛💚 311 - 'Amber' is a must!
Whole genre of Reggae-Rock to get into: Slightly Stoopid, Rebelution, Iration, The Elovaters, The Movement, The Skints, Pepper, Stick Figure, Tribal Seeds, Passafire, 3rd Alley, etc.
"Caress me Down" is another song from this album that you guys should check out. It really showcases Bradley's vocal and lyrical talents.
Their album Sublime (from 1996) is one of those very few albums that I literally love every single song on… that’s honestly very rare (for me anyway) I love Sublime and brings back some great memories from the 90s!!
The story of Sublime is tragic in two ways. Not only did their genius lead singer/songwriter Bradley Nowell die at just 28 in 1996, he died right before Sublime starting getting super popular. So he never even lived long enough to witness their popularity
Brad died of a heroin overdose while on tour, one week after marrying his girlfriend and 11 months after the birth of their son. All that and the band was just about to blow up. A tragic loss. A few months after his death there was a benefit concert for his family which was headlined by No Doubt.
and who woulda thought that they'd be just as popular 26 years later
Gwen Stefani and No Doubt show up on at least one song with Sublime.
@@raife0159 The song is "Total Hate". Been on my playlist since i discovered it about 10 years ago.
@@phila3884 Gwen was on the live version of "I Saw Red" from the Robbin' the Hood album. "Total Hate" is Bradley and Sublime on a No Doubt song though both are from the weenie roast festival the same year.
Heroin doesn’t give a shit who you are. So sad
Bad Fish! 40 oz to freedom. Smoke two joints was also very popular lol. I have seen their cover band Badfish two times and its always great, but forever sad we couldn't see Sublime.
Sublime is sublime! 💚
I was like seventeen and had a fake ID back in 1993. On a random Tuesday night we went to this bar in Long Beach called Barwinkles that we always went to. Sublime was playing there that night. I had no idea who they were but I remember being absolutely mesmerized and thinking that this band was something special.
40oz is the most underrated album in the history of music
^^^^^^^THIS^^^^^^
Bradley's ashes were spread out in the ocean and when his dog Lou Dog passed they took his ashes and spread them at the same location so they could be together again. Brad and his dog loved each other so much
Were Bradley’s ashes spread because he’s went sailing?
I met Deebo while working at Boston Logan airport in the middle 80s. Sweetest man. I had NO clue who he was until everyone ran over to him for autographs. But before they came over we had a short funny conversation about him disturbing my peace (I was sitting on a milk crate bored while reading a magazine) I felt his presence and then just continued to looking up until I got to his face. He laughed. Very nice man!
That late 90s/early 2000s was great! If you enjoyed Sublime, you will probably enjoy a band named 311. With summer coming to its official end, check out 311's "Amber." Summer vibes all the way! 💯👍🔥
I'm honestly shocked they haven't listened to "Amber" yet, for obvious reasons....
@@nicksmith3623 It's so good!👍✌️
Oops I just made the same comment, before I scrolled down to yours.
I've been asking for 311 for a while. Their breakout hit is Down. Then go from there
@shanenormand7711 Have they done any 311 yet? I don't remember any. I love 311. They are from my home state of Nebraska. Been listening to them since the beginning.
Sublime is my favorite! Their music is a whole vibe and Bradley's voice is one of a kind!
My favorite Sublime song!!!
My favorite sublime song.
Yes the lead singer overdosed on heroin two months before this album dropped. This album exploded their name into the mainstream music culture, for the alternative music crowd though it was bittersweet.
I echo the comments about checking out the band 311, and you should definitely check out their song aptly named "Amber", because Amber will love it.
Love Sublime. Probably late to the party but, the lead singer passed. So, his *ghost*, and his dog. Also saw mention of 311. One of my faves is an easy, breezy song, Sunset in July… great summer vibes!
In my top 10 overall songs ever. Singer Bradley never got to see the success. Died before the album came out. Love this song
Dig the Ska music vibe of Sublime. First time hearing this song. The ghost was the late singer of the band Bradley Nowell who almost joined the 27 club (he was 28 ). Passed from a drug OD. RIP Brad.
Love Sublime! Try "Doin' Time" or "Badfish". Such an awesome band. The ghost in the video is the band's singer. He unfortunately died of an overdose before this album and video got widely released. He never got to see how huge his band eventually got and what a legacy he and they left. The dog in the video was the singer's beloved dalmatian, Lou Dog. RIP Bradley Nowell ✌️💐
OMG! Love BADFISH! That song brings back so many amazing memories from my youth (I just turned 50) and the reggae beat. I really hope they do that one soon.
Me too. I'm 51 and had some amazing memories to that song lol.@@girlmiaful
@@girlmiaful Definitely! Brings me back to high school. Really hoping they do that one.
Santeria is my favourite of theirs. “Badfish” and “wrong way” are also great and should be next to react to.
Doin' Time is one of my favorite summer chill songs. Summertiiiiiiime, and the living's easy. Lots of Longbeach references that I had to look up, but even without understanding all the lyrics the vibe shines through.
One of my favorite Sublime songs. I'm a Latina/Chicana so it features aspects of my heritage, especially the practice of Santeria. The loss of Brad, may he rest in peace, was heartbreaking. But they gave us some great music. And RIP Tom "Tiny" Lister. I know we know him as Deebo but I also loved him as the president in The Fifth Element. 😎👍
Yes, my #1 all time favorite movie, he was great as the president.
First time I saw him was in a Matlock episode.
Everyone liked him enough to make him a semi-regular.
He was a con, Matlock got him out, he started working security for them.
Last time I saw him he was tossing the trigger to a bomb out the window of a boat in The Dark Knight.
Whoo! RIP BRAD
Sitting here at the end....thinking and hoping; select and react to "Smoke Two Joints" right now, please! Sublime has got at least a half dozen handfuls of good songs yet to try.
BADFISH is the song you really need to hear from Sublime! Scarlet Begonias and Smoke Two Joints are also huge!
Yes, Bradley Nowell died of a heroin overdose in 1996 right before Sublime began to find mainstream success. Pool Shark from the Stand by your Van album is about his battle with addiction and one of my favorite songs.
However, I would suggest Doin' Time (eerie splendor remix) from the Second Hand Smoke album. This tune has an awesome groove to it.
Reminds me of being in high school. Love Sublime.
An ex-boyfriend gave me a Sublime cd years and years ago when I was in high school; the relationship didn't last, but I still have the cd. I love this band, you'll definitely need to check out more of their songs.
So happy you got back to Sublime. This is one of their best songs. Now you need to do the band that they toured with: 311 - their perfect song for your channel is "Amber" (for obvious reasons).
It breaks my heart to listen to Sublime. I'm so happy they can bring joy to you two and everyone you show. Cheers from Cali andeverybody who collectively showed me their catalog until I became a fan. Sublime is something special. Thank you for these reactions!
Love Sublime. The 2 songs you've done are great. I also love Caress Me Down, Wrong Way and Doin' Time.
So glad you played this song. It was one of the artist I requested in an e-mail along with so many others.
“Smoke two Joints” , “Badfish” and “Wrong Way” are the others that I remember from my high school days
R.I.P. Bradley. Sublime took over my life in the mid 90's, all the way up through my teens. Damn near everything they made skipped my ears and shot right into my soul. Goofy, endearing, stupid, hilarious, motivated, ironic, powerful....didn't matter. The non-verbal verse of Wrong Way gets stuck in my head at random times.
I almost started typing out the songs i love the most, but thankfully, I stopped myself once I realized it would have been a list like 20 songs deep.
I still hit up the rarities album Pure Anus these days, just for the groove.
Great song. You guys should listen to The Wrong Way by Sublime
One of my favorite songs of all time. The music video is great too. RIP Bradley Nowell.
❤Definitely have to listen to the band 311!! You will definitely love the song called "Amber"❤
Hes one of the greatest singers and song writers, he passed right before blowing. We misses out on some great songs with his untimely death. Sublime would have been massive if he didnt die
One of my all time favorite bands! Every song of theirs is an entire vibe of its own ❤
"Scarlet Begonias" (Greatful Dead cover), "Badfish", "40oz to Freedom", and "the wrong way" are all Masterpiece songs from Sublime amongst many others. Every song on every album are so unique and so easy to groove or jam to.
I agree with all of these and I'd like to add my favourite, "Ebin", to the list 😊 but nobody every reacts to it sadly.
I personally like "I Saw Red"
@@_Shadoh_ Especially the 'Stand by Your Van' live version. That whole album is fantastic my favorite version of "S.T.P" is on there as well as "Poolshark" and "KRS One".
Sublime has so many good songs in their library, smoke 2 joints, pawn shop, date rape.. too many to mention.
This is California, when I lived there. Love Bradley's voice. ✨
Sublime is by far one of my favorite bands. They mix rock with reggae with Ska and a little hip-hop. I love the island. Beach type vibe. They definitely inspired a different style of music.
Always loved Sublime RIP Brad you were truly amazing.
RIP Brad...what a loss. Badfish is my fav Sublime song....definitely should hear more from them.
The tragedy of Brad dying and taking almost all that magic with him was so sad...Bud and Eric were great but Brad wrote the music, sang the songs and played lead guitar he WAS Sublime and him passing right before they were about to EXPLODE is SO TRAGIC...Sublime's music is a big part of my highschool years, his passing was the only celebrity death that made me shed a tear
😲 love this tune!!!
There is a whole genre that is slept on in the reaction community. Bands like Sublime, Pepper, Slightly Stoopid, Fortunate Youth. There are geniuses here and I haven't seen any reactions.
Man, all the summer memories to this song and sublime in general. When I’m on my deathbed and all the memories of my life are playing in front of my eyes, Santeria will definitely be playing over it.
Sublime made some very cool tunes. The ghost was their singer Brad Nowell. The dog was Brad's dog too. Sadly, drugs took him from us too soon.
They have some really great tunes about some serious things. April 26 1992, Date Rape, the Wrong Way.. there's a lot of great stuff by Sublime. They're kind of a bridge between punk rock and ska. I know they did a version of Toots and the Maytals' classic 54-48. They also did Rivers of Babylon. Great band. This song is great, but they were so much more than this.
I spent a lot of time HAF listening to these guys. I was in college when this was out. It was a blast!
wooo!!!! i love sublime!!!
Everclear…. Wonderful great song
You nailed it, Bradley, the lead singer passed away. Right at the start of his prime.
Oh damn!! Yall are in for a treat! This song came out when I was in High School. Please go down this rabbit hole! You won't regret it!
Bradley passed away before their self-titled album hit the airways. This video was made after he passed.
I love this song. Haven't seen the video in a very long time. Seeing Bradley made me feel heartbroken over him being gone all over again while I was watching it. I love that his music is still so loved today. He left way too soon.
Finally Yess!!! Heina & Sancho🤣🤣🤣
Thank you! I've been looking forward to you doing more Sublime 😊
Let’s go!!✌️😊💙🦋 have we done 311 Amber???
This x 1000!!!
I agree. Perfect song to close out the official end of summer! 💯👍🔥
I concur. .311 is much needed...
The ghostly guy in the video is Bradley Nowell, he was the lead singer of Sublime and played rhythm guitar amongst other instruments. He died before witnessing the success of his song "What I Got" from his self-titled album back in 1997 (That was a damn good album) from the MTV Video Music Award for best Alternative video. It's too bad because we were hoping to see them on stage at some point but that never happened. This is still a good song to listen to even today. It makes me happy to see you enjoyed this song too as much as we still do! I enjoyed your reaction! ☮ and 💕
He was the only guitarist, besides the bass. They were a 3 piece, but thanks for the Britannica version.
You kept saying "his", but it was "their".
I was wondering when you’re were gonna get back to Sublime. Please check out “Doin’ Time” next. So many good songs to listen to. Also, kind of in the same ball park is 311…definitely have to check out their song “Amber”…well cuz obviously lol.
I have always loved this band.
There’s so many great Sublime songs I couldn’t mention them all. But Badfish, burrito, I saw red (with Gwen Stefani), garden grove, April 24th 1992, caress me down, and many others.
Yeah, this is a huge 90's classic and my favorite Sublime song! They were essentially their own throwback sub-genre. There were a few other bands like them but none as prominent, in my opinion. Thanks for this reaction!
I'd never heard of it before. It only reached No. 38 in the USA and didn't really chart elsewhere, so maybe being in the UK at the time, I didn't hear it
@@davidhuggan6315true, they weren't super successful commercially but had quite an indie following. They were California street-based and a sort of a mashup of different styles Latin/hip hop/Raggae. I heard them a lot on alternative stations back when they were popular in the mid-90's. They were short lived though mainly because the lead singer, Brad Nowell, died of an overdose very early on.
@@mkmstillstackin Interesting. Thank you.
@@davidhuggan6315 You're very welcome
Sublime is one of if not my favorite band. They have a HUGE portfolio of great music, and amazing messages behind the music. an in-depth history of love, pain and drug use. They are definitely worth listening to and checking out every song people suggest!
You should check out the song badfish.
They also have a cover band that goes by the name badfish in tribute to their song. they play all around the country and even have a 2x/year festival all for the love of sublime.
I found your movie reactions first and as you may be able to tell from my username, that Sublime is my fave band of all time. Love you guys. RIP Bradley.
Brad died of a drug overdose right before this album was released. We lost a great singer and musician. R.I.P. Brad
That's one of the songs that defined the 90s!!!!! Nuff said!
Oh yeah. Great tune. Thanks!
Let's goooo. Love Sublime! Doin' Time is my jam too.
RIP Brad Newell
Behind the music sublime
Their story is awesome and very rockNroll
Sublime is an awesome group👍
I think that you guys would enjoy: Paul Westerberg - Dyslexic Heart.
How about some Creed My Own Prison 🔥
this entire album is fantastic
Oh man such a MAJORLY underrated band, with the most unique sound ever. Just think of all the music we got screwed-out of just because of drugs. What a shame.
311 - All Mixed Up & Amber - in this order. You will love these songs
Put the kids in another room and check out "SMOKE TWO JOINTS". It's a JAM!!!!
Loved Sublime in the day.
More Sublime!!!
40oz to Freedom is a good song of theirs. First heard it featured on the legendary rollerblading video Hoax 2 Anarchy Across America, which has a great soundtrack.
Bradley Nowell, the late singer/ guitarist of Sublime was a talent... It was a pity that he got hooked onto h++++n at a young age. Sublime was getting big as they prepared to release their 1996 self-titled album... Bradley Nowell had just welcomed a son and got married after a stint in rehab. Sublime went on tour in '96 and he was found in a hotel room one morning from an OD after relapsing on h++++n... The album was released and sold 2x platinum after his death... His dog Lou (the dalmatian) was featured in the music videos - Lou dog was w/ Bradley Nowell the day he died... His band members said they knew something was wrong when it looked like Lou dog was crying next to Nowell's body.
RIP Bradley! Y'all need to hit some more 90's ska/punk for sure. Next stop for these guys is Wrong Way or 40 oz to Freedom.
Great vibes yall 😎... I love the way that both of you are feelin this. The same way I felt it as a young teen, when hearing Sublime songs for the 1st time... I'm seeing more Sublime in your near future.. 😅✌🏻.
God I love Sublime. To my knowledge you are the first I've seen react to them. I'm not sure if TH-cam will let you do the next 2 songs I recommend but they are "Wrong Way" and "Smoke Two Joints". I think maybe the safer bet would be "Wrong Way". R.I.P Bradley ❤️
Smoke Two Joints would be good to add to the list at the end. :)
No one else has mentioned it but the song Date Rape is definitely worth a listen. It’s an anti- rape message so don’t let the name scare you.
90’s the best decade, we had it all it truly was the last best decade
Sublime is one of those bands that comes along and changes what we know about music. So unique and created their own unmistakable sound. Phenomenal catalogue of music. Enjoy the Sublime journey!
If you like sublime, please check out the band 311. They have the same laidback, Jamaican influence vibe! They have a song called “Amber” that I know you guys will love! Especially Amber haha I promise you won’t be disappointed!
Been listening to this band for year’s fantastic. I’m a big fan of ska also. 👍🍻
Sublime was one of the most popular bands from the 90's ska punk scene known as third wave ska. Other popular songs from that era are "The Impression I Get" by the Mighty Mighty Bosstones and "Time Bomb" by Rancid.
I read in a couple articles that Lou Dog used to bite people when they brought em on tour lol
Sublime are a forever mood/vibe, my California youth soundtrack ❤️
Sublime is BOSS!
Rest In Paradise Bradley.....
Tragic loss of Brad. RIP!
