- As the days pass by, and the reality that nobody is coming to save them sinking in, two crazed brothers decide to take matters into their own hands and save themselves and anybody else they come across.
New York Tales is the newest standalone series set in the Dead America universe.
I am hooked on these stories. The Low country, El Paso, & all Capt.Kersey stories are a few of my favorites. ❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much! I promise I haven't forgotten about LowCountry/El Paso/Kersey. Just so many stories to tell, haha

I am holding on, waiting for mother nature to stop the drama, I'M READY TO GARDEN
( friends have been gifting me zombies and zombieland gnomes!!
Don't worry it's raining across the Atlantic as well
It is on the most southerly point of England also a bit windy or for those not used to this weather blowing a hoolee pronounced who-lee like whoop- eee
But still Dead America keeps me alive
I've been listening from the beginning. Great stories! Go team Texas 😂

YIPPEE!!
Thanks Derek
hope you enjoy!
Yep. I'm liking this. The one problem I have is guys who say bro. I'll get over it. Thanks for sharing this with us.
I’m having trouble with how many times Jane responds “with incredulity.”
Thank you Derek!!
My pleasure! Thanks for listening!
My eagerness for listening to another story was palpable.
Thank you!
Hahaha glad you enjoyed it!
Thank u for making Monday better
My pleasure! Hope you enjoy!
So good. Thanks Derek.
Derek, I really liked the Maniacs. Heck they could set up a settlement on the Jersey shore, and train an army.
The jersey shore army. I like that idea
Do we get apocalypse snookie? Heh heh
Is Carl at the end the same from the Bodega story? The one that John and Morgan talked with the radio? If yes, then holy crap, CONTINUITY!!!
yes it's the same Carl! he gets his own story in the series too
Thanks
Do landon have his own story? I love all your stories btw derek.. haha
Im hooked. Fan for life
Thank you so much! Don't forget to check out the playlists, which has the main series in order, as well as all the standalones and spinoffs!
I think you need to address the issue of blood and body fluid transmission-Shouldn’t Hudson and Mason fear that? I would’ve thought men like them prepping for hand to hand fights with the infected-Ought to wear face shields, or at least goggles and masks. Maybe even some kinda gloves.
You'll have to forgive me as I'm roughly three million words into this series, so sometimes the memory of what I've written is a little hazy, but I'm pretty sure this was addressed in an earlier main series book during one of the Presidential briefings. However it might be good to bring it up again at some point.
Oh hell yea! What a great story! In NY I was a mechanic after being a 91bravo and I used to joke about it being a great spot to be if this popped off for the first week. We always gave mercy to dudes like Calvin and showed them respect despite just turning a key. Plus you're setting them up to meet John and his girl to be Morgan lol
I gotta ask, if you were Mason... what car was that he was all into??
I'm a big Supernatural fan so it would have been a 67 Impala. That car can take a beating and dish it out too
I shit you not, I restored one of them and even was gifted with an identical matchbox car to commemorate the finished build for the customer. IDK I got pics, but I still have my trophy matchbox car!
Also, supernatural rocks. Thanks for the mental image for their getaway haha
Yess!😍🇧🇻
This one is badass!! Super Mario Brothers in zombie land. XD
For places like New York, with such dense population, zombie outbreak is 99% deadly. At the same time, it is easy to find weapons and supplies.
Your art work is very nice too. I notice that since the Mountain Man. Did you create them?
Haha yeah, Super Mario Brothers with a better arsenal, haha
Awesome!
🤣🤣🤣😜 I like that ferry, tis all mine precious 😂. I think I am gonna trigger some watch list now by googling how to hot wire a ferry now 😳😱🧟🧟♂️🧟🧟♂️🤣🤣🤣😜😍🥰😻 thank you so much 🙏🥰😘
I really love the NYC stories, but this one did not do much for me. While we do have plenty of bad ass men in NYC, these two guys were a little too much video game/action hero characters. These two brothers have seen the world crash down around them, but they are not serious, frightened, or even bummed out. Their attitude is pure video game "hey, Bro, let's go out and bash us some zombies, yeah!!" More like a couple of adolescent boys, than two grown men who know the consequences of mistake or a wrong move in this new world.
What I liked about the Dead America was the basic idea of ordinary people suddenly finding themselves as extras in a zombie movie. About people looking around and realizing just how badly equipped they are to survive with the fall of civilization. Especially people who live in cities. Most of people who are workers in cities are experienced in making a living using technology inside a complicated society. Without that society, if you are not a cop, or a soldier or a rancher or a farmer, you have dammed few skills to keep you alive. And realizing that is terrifying.
These two guys are big beefy men, trained in martial arts, with a garage and the expertise with tools to craft many weapons. This comes across a little too much like those zombie novels where the hero just happens to be an ex army ranger or navel seal, and just happens to have a large gun collection in his house, a house that is reinforced against attack and has a sixth month supply of food laid in.
As a woman especially, I would be afraid to go with these guys. Considering their behavior, I would figure they were actually crazy, or hopped up on drugs. If they were either or both, they could do a whole lot of ugly things to her and she could do exactly nothing to stop them.
There are so many many possibilities for stories of people in the first hours of the zombie plague. How about a store clerk, a subway worker, someone working in the great 5th ave. Library, someone just getting up for work that morning, people in a Broadway theater, someone just getting off the night shift, people working in the media or a tv station? Not to mention firemen, or EMT's, emergency room doctors.. Although those last would likely be tradgic stories,as cops, firemen, EMT"s , etc would all be among the very first to die in the zombie plague.
Yeah I know I went a little over the top with these two, but that was intentional. Most of the guys like this in the zombie world would have met a grisly end, but every now and then they get lucky despite themselves.
Can't wait to see the New York tales characters meeting each other. Also as a New Yorker going to jersey would be something I would also do, but there is no way going to the jersey shore is a good thing. I mean the city that press against the beach will all be filled with zombies.
true about the shore, but I think the Maniacs would see that as a plus rather than a minus. gives them something to do
please do one in Central Park or Harlem and the East river. I think there’s a lot of potential in a story about a boat owner traveling around nyc waterways
yeah I still have a lot to cover in NYC.
these 2 are definitely me and my bro when the zombies come and the rest of you are either dead or undead XD
haha nice! I'm glad you liked it!
Are there other stories with these characters in it cause the story here ends with them on the ferry?!?
The screenshot looks like john bernthal and nikalaj waldau as the guy he played in shot caller lol
Nikalaj was awesome in HeadHunters, a Norwegian film from a few years back. Also stars the guy who starred in Max Manus: Man of War, which was a fantastic WWII movie based on a real story, real spy thriller stuff.
Da bro's are crazy nn. Funny love it .
yeah I had a lot of fun with them
I don't know if its recent or not but every video I've tried to watch of yours lately has had an ad every 30 seconds
That has to be something on TH-cam end. I set ads every 12-15 min between chapters. Sorry that's happening to you!
@@DerekSlatonHorrorAuthor apparently it's not just me I looked it up and a lot of people are having the same issue with videos that they usually watch from certain creators having ads every 30 seconds hopefully they fix it soon but it's not going to stop me from listening
Best Easter EVER..🎉
hope you enjoy!
No one died in this story because those brothers are awesome.
they were so much fun to write
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
*IS TUPELO, MS IMMUNE TO ZOMBIE OUTBREAKS?*
No place is immune. they'll show up on here one of these days!
Wait a sec. Mason and Hudson? I get that reference
this guy does not stop writing lol😂
I always loved writing and telling stories. And since I went full time with it back in January, I'm in the position of "hey, I should probably write so I can eat next month", haha.
Those two have found their calling 😂 i would have been so awestruck at their fighting i would have been munched by a stealth zombie 😅 and carl survived! 😊
Haha yeah, they were having the time of their lives. They were a lot of fun to write, and most likely we haven't seen the last of them
Hudson and Mason! OMG!
And that is the response I was hoping for. Haha
Carl!!!!
Sorry!! I love Hudson and Mason. I REALLY need to know if Jane survived this crap. Derek please!!!!
They'll be back soon :D
I've been a fan on the Dead America series for a long time, back when there were real narrators. I understand that this AI shit is cost effective but ,to me, it has become nails on a chalk board.
I really love Zombie stuff but I'm afraid I just get bored listening to one Zombie fight after another. Then in between, it is just a series of people wisecracking. Sorry but this just doesn't cut it for me.
You should give the LowCountry mini series or the main series a try, because they're a lot more involved. This story, and the series it's from, is meant to be a standalone break from the main series. There are playlists that have all of those on the channel.
@@DerekSlatonHorrorAuthor Oh thank you for the heads up. I will go there now. I take that you know I like the logistics of sourcing food, shelter, light, hiding and escaping from Zombies! You are a star! x
@@Golightly354I do a lot of that in the series. Even have a 6 book mini series called the Seattle Rebuild that is focused entirely on that
@@DerekSlatonHorrorAuthor . Thank you . Kind of you to let me know. I'm going on a long train journey soon, so that will be perfect. xxx
Jeeze its FERRY NOT FAIRY!
😮😮😮
I think that sums it up perfectly, haha
The AI narrator takes away from a good story
Yeah , sometimes, and it says fairy instead of ferry too! Ha ha
Yep. I'm liking this. The one problem I have is guys who say bro. I'll get over it. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Haha yeah, the whole Bro thing was intentional as whenever I pictured these guys, that was exactly how they sounded. it was interesting to write, for sure
