Not only that but also Miranjo and Daida, (while Miranjo used him as a vessel for Bosse, the shot of her reading bed time story to him is heartwarming), Bebin and Mitsumata, and Kage and his mother (I still want to cry when I see her)

Easily a 10/10 series. You go in expecting this cute little boy hero story and instead you get this epic tale about love and family where nearly every character has a truly sympathetic motivation and dedication to those important to them above all else. Nobody is what they seem in the best way possible. I absolutely love this series.
Ranking of kings starts and ends with the happy ending every story for kids would seem to have, and yet portrays emotions of the characters very powerfully. The way also how knight fight for one person, then switch side, all according to their personal motivations and what they believe in makes them all feel very real.
Hi, I'm very confused, the show looks like a simple cute story about a little kid living a simple life yet this opening sounds like something out of a shonen anime with plenty of action and crazy fight scenes. What is this anime about?
1:06 someone was trying to end their life by jumping off a cliff but was caught and saved and then shown the world, encouraging them to live. There’s such potent depictive imagery.
@@violence_devil I noticed the mask that breaks at the end of that sequence is the same mask seen on Mirango’s child self at 0:26 When Bosse saved her it must’ve set her free from the sadness that the mask represents.
1:06 This part is beautiful! It's representing the scene where Miranjo tried to commit suicide but got catch by Bosse. Then , Bosse travel with her and make her discover some gorgeous places. Then her mask ,that symbolize her traumatisms break because she is happy No wonder why she wanted that much travel with Bosses again
At first I couldn't understand the reason of those shots in the opening, but after watching all the episodes of OuRan and especially [redacted] I instantly start crying more...
Everyone talks about the shot of Miranjo commiting suicide. But can we talk about the shot from 0:58 to 1:03. The shot representing parental love. That anyone can show parental love. From a step mother (Queen Hilling with Boichi) to biological mother (Kage with his mother). But I like how they showed Bebin loving his snakes. Showing that loving your pet is also a form of parental love.
I feel like the whole OP showcases love in its many forms, and I agree that the shots of parental love are really beautiful. 1:03 is stunning, but the shot continues into the scenery shots of the various places Bojji's dad went with Miranjo as well. It feels really awful to see how much Bojji's dad basically stole from his sons, but all of his initial motivations and the start of the entire story lies in his parental love for Miranjo and how much he wanted her to be happy again.
At first I thought she was going to be an evil step mom, sort of like Cinderellas mother, them having the connection as if they were blood related, and Hilling accepting him as her own tugs at my heartstrings as well, even if they’re not blood related, Hilling is still Bojiis mother

Only two things I think would make him cry would be for him having to use some power he knows would end his immortal brothers suffering, or Despa having died risking his life for Bojji

Queen Hilling was definitely one of the top 3 things about this anime that made it so great, thought it would have been another trope of evil step-mother, but boy o boy was i not ready for those tears. She wasn't just a step-mother, she was a mother who stepped up.

When the flashes of lightning in his hand emerge there is a tear as well, and I like to think it reflects his pain of inheriting so much from his abusive father. I think the only reason he hates his face so much is because it looks so much like their fathers.

Same. That scene of Bebin holding and petting Mitsumata was so sweet. Not to mention Kage being carried by his mom, and then of course to Bojji being held by Hilling. Such a good sequence and the song fits in perfectly. Every time I see it I get choked up.

It's easily one of the best openings I've seen in years, if not the best one. It makes me feel like some One Piece or Naruto openings do (but I know these songs since I was much younger, they are beautiful and nostalgic). This opening is a true masterpiece.
@@nikolaospachis4081 rank has nothing to do with viewership I could literally be the only one who does a 10/10 review and it’ll be under viewed I think it deserves more love
I also watched this anime because of this opening too. It was actually that Clivanis guy that introduced me to this opening (in one of his videos called “When the Anime Opening Spoils The Whole Show”, where he used “Naked Hero” as the song for his video).
You know, if you pause at 0:53, it looks as though king Desha is shedding tears. The fact that the scene cuts to a time where Ouken still had his sanity and mind conveys that king Desha truely feels sadness, but also rage to which in the 0:53 scene, he charges up his magic.
Desha is the only one who can temporarily stop Ouken with his electricity magic. The scene shot is probably from when he had to lock Ouken up, and his conflicted feelings remembering his old brother as he was. Also he feels responsible - when his mad father's rule ended, the curse of immortality finally awakened in Ouken. This show has a lot of strong themes about choices, and inheriting other people's "problems" (represented by curses).
While Desha may surely not be as nice as Despa but he is surely not a monster of cold heart. He did care for his brothers and was certainly not approving of the way his mercinarries treated the enemy soldiers but had to accept it in order to use them. Plus tbh he is a great king to his people
Same I started watching this anime today and don't regret in my opinion it's up there with attack on titan and demon Slayer and I love both of those animes. Ranking of kings openings are really good
I had just finished binging this. Didn't skip the op it was just incredible every time. The way the vocals and scenes mix is so well put together. I also just noticed the hands at 1:09 after pausing. I usually don't pause openings while I'm watching because I'm afraid I might spoil myself. It not as easy to do that here. I loved this one.
IT IS ACTUALLY CRIMINAL HOW GOOD THIS OP IS. THE ANIME IS SO IMPACTFUL, NOT SOLELY BECAUSE OF THE CHARACTERS, BUT BECAUSE EVERYONE HAS A STORY! EVERYONE IS MISUNDERSTOOD! A TRUE MASTERLY CRAFTED PAINTING THAT SHOWS NOTHING BUT THE REFLECTION OF OUR REAL WORLD! (sorry for yelling, pretty good op tho :) )
I agree it's borderline criminal. Like I'm glad the Demon Slayer season is over because the animation in that show was DESTROYING everything else and I unironically felt like it wasn't fair. Ranking of Kings is also flexing a little too much with how amazing it is, especially this opening, and I think it's a little rude and unfair to other anime which also deserve respect. Hopefully the season will be over soon It's like if Bill Gates kept flashing his money around and crashing Ferraris left and right, it's not nice. Like we get it, Ranking of Kings is amazing, it doesn't have to keep throwing it in our faces
Except Gyakuza, the lesson the show seems to be moving toward is that you should be kind and everyone has depth if you are patient, but not to be a doormat like Miranjo's mother because some people are despicable beyond rescuing and she died for it. I see her mother mirrored (heh) in Hilling. Hilling was willing to heal everyone without question, she has a big heart to the point of self-sacrifice (tearing her nice dress, jumping from a window, healing to the point of exhaustion, ESPECIALLY forgiving Domas like how Miranjo's mother did with Bosse).
I wouldn’t soley word it as all the characters are misunderstood but that there is a world beyond Boji, despite Boji being the main protagonist. Every second and even background characters get their time to shine, regardless of whether or not Boji is in the picture.
0:39 from here on, it's just CHILLS!!! There's something so nostalgic, powerful, inspiring, and moving about this song with the beautiful animation of the characters - everything that they've lost, gained, and treasured.
@@Diehardanimefann Silhoutte is the last time I remember a song making me feel feels this much, and that had like 15 years of history behind it. This show is something else.

The feeling of watch this OP while watching the serie is something you feel only once in a lifetime. You think "Oh, they changed the op" before see this masterpiece and never feel this again (with this opening, of course)
I just noticed that at 1:06 thats literally miranjo when she tried killing herself, then the hands that catch her are bosses and the scenes after are all the places they traveled together afterwards🤯
This is literally the best opening I've ever seen. Not a single frame is lost, every little detail has meaning, every scene is so powerful. I've never felt anything like that when watching an opening. Overall, this show might be the best I have ever seen.
Hilling quickly became one of my favourite characters on this masterpiece. I just loved how she wasn't reduced to a stereotypical bad stepmother, she actually loves and cares for Bojji as much as she does Daida, she just made a few mistakes along the way.
yeah, they did everything to give her a really bad first impression, with her being harsh and cold, talking down to Boji and even her looks, with her long upwards pointed nose; and than they succesfully redeemed her by showing her loving and caring side and gave reasons to her colder actions. Maybe Neil Druckman should take a look at this
@@hhjhj393 when he stopped Kage before attacking him I realized there was more to him than evil assasin that takes care of the dirty business. Then he told Bocchi(?) That Kage had gone off on a journey never to see him again and I was back to pure evil again. Then I realized there's no way Kage would die and turned out to be right and I was back at it again. Honestly, the irony is that the worst of the big 4 were probably the 2 people that were on Bocchi's side in the beginning. Domas really had some trauma he had to resolve from following the King's orders no matter what and Apeas was the exact opposite, immediately going against his king as soon as an old friend showed up. But in the end they all had justifiable reasons and thankfully it's fantasy so it worked out fine
From 0:57 to 1:03 it shows parental figures with their children and the painful thing is that for Daida, it's the mirror, not his mother, no wonder he feels like he has to prove himself all the time.
I think the fact that it has a more unconventional art style for such a story-driven show like this is really one of a kind and make it stands out from other shows, imo. Wit studio really took advantage of the simple designs to animate everything so fluidly and dynamic.
@@fatburner5278 This is why never judge a book by its cover. Many shows with "more mature" art style would dream to have a story as good as Ranking of Kings.
This opening evokes so much emotion out of you. The beautiful camera angles, the animation and colors, the context behind specific scenes in the op (like Kage’s whole clan being slaughtered in that one scene) and the icing on the cake - the song. One of the BEST openings I have seen in a long time.
@@NeuvisWaterBottle I initially thought it was Bojji opening his eyes and seeing things from what would be his well deserved perspective as a giant. But it was just Bosse showing Miranjo those amazing landscapes.
That sequence of Miranjo's attempted suicide POV into Bojji's dad catching her and showing her the world is one of the saddest, lowkey genius moments in any op I've ever seen.
That line hits hard after seeing all these animes where the protagonist is obsessed with power and revenge. The instant regret on Bosse's face when he realized how much he had taken from his child. And Bojji who harbors no animosity towards anyone, and whose greatest strength is his compassion. This story is refreshing in all the right ways.
@@Downloadable_4 At a surface level I'd say it's about a young prince endeavoring to become a great king despite his circumstances (deaf, mute, physically weakened) But it's hard to explain it so simply with its complex plot and characters. Someone is crying, pouring tears right now And holding them back, and choking them back Shake it off now, the power that comes from malice deep within You might not hear a sound, But right now, what the hero needs Is not just power so, just let yourself be you and now behold his small hands as he holds Everything I've loved in this world And every curse that lives on my name All of these feelings of love and light Give me the light that will shine through it all Shake it off now, the power that comes from anger deep within You might not hear it yet, but now the hero has arrived he shall not wield his sword, but he will fight with love. Watch this OP with every episode, and you'll keep realizing what each scene represents in the greater story. This is literally a new experience every time you watch it. It's got my vote for OP of the year.
I had the exact same feeling you were describing. When I watched 0:25 again, I was like, “Ohhhh so that’s actually the part where he shows Daida his memories!” and when I saw 0:51 again, I thought, “Ohhhh, that was foreshadowing her getting her soul eaten!” And then the opening changes in the later episodes. You see a part added in at about 1:15 that shows the smaller version of the demon that ate Miranja’s soul and then at another episode, the part where Miranja’s mask breaks, which is at 1:16, is changed to the part where Daida and Bojji save Miranja’s soul from the demon, reviving her.
Same here the emotionals of this song makes me tear up too when I first heard it without the English lyrics it made me felt what this anime express threw out boji’s struggles 😭😭😭😭😭

The shot of Hilling holding onto Bojji and kissing him sent me y'all. I cry every time I see that scene. I can't even. I've seen quite a few anime where the step-parent was meh with the og kid. But I can't even begin to describe how much I love Hilling and her immense love for both Bojji and her own son Daida. Absolutely love this woman to pieces. Fantastic opening.
It's not just the song thats good, it's the shots, too!. The director of this one was really great- basically decided to put in effort, demanded better animation and used effects to make it look better. The timing and the shots that went from relatively normal/basic animation the first OP had to immediately flashing pretty and intense animation with shading and effects was just a great eye catcher. Honestly, don't know why this opening was so kickass outta nowhere, maybe the writing gets even better and hits even harder this part of the show. Not only that, but it's simple, just the rotating shots with the dust particles and the snake nuzzling its head against bebins hand all at once- scenes like this are what make it so good. If the scene with the diamond didn't have constantly moving dirt splotches on the guys hand it would feel a bit less impactful but... that's why you gotta add extra.
I love how the song escalates over itself every few seconds, to the point it seems like things will keep escalating in a way that cannot be stopped but at the very end, we end exactly where we started, closing the cycle. Its the perfect reflection of the story the show tells.
This actually one of the best openings I’ve seen in a long time every scene related to something that was going to happen without spoiling anything, it’s goal was to keep you wondering what’s happening instead shoving it in your face
Just realized that the shot at 1:06 is when Miranjo jumped off the cliff trying to commit suicide, then Boss catches her, and they travel around the world, which you can see from the shots after. Amazing details!
I just finished s1 and I think it's the best anime I've ever seen. Cried so much, at least once every episode. I love this show and op with my whole being.
I have never felt that emotional before after watching an anime opening. I felt I have experienced the feelings of each character firsthand. Every character seems alive with their wishes, willpower, dreams, hope, struggles before my eyes. That's an amazing op!!! It makes me think about my own life too, my goals, my struggles, my dreams, everything
I'm surprised this doesn't have a million views by now. There might be other songs I like more but this opening as a whole might be the best one I have ever seen. Every picture shown has a lot of meaning and you could easily use them as a wallpaper, combined with the song it's just perfect. I was about to cry the first time I see it, it's so good and emotional
The original Japanese Aniplex upload has more than 2 million views, but they region-locked it shortly after Crunchyroll uploaded to prevent them from competing with each other. [Both of them are owned by SONY if you were wondering about the connection]
I'll never be able to forget the feeling of understanding what this scene meant through the episodes (1:05). The PoV is so uuuh 😩 so chills it always give me goosebumps
The directed of the OP is the same person that did JJK OP 1 and 2, Naruto shippuden OP 13, and animated the infamous pain fight, one of the best directors/animators in the industry
I know WIT’s gonna take years to adapt season 2 but if and whenever they are finally ready to announce it, I will be there every weekend to see the latest episode. Whether it dips in quality or not, I am invested to see what Bojji does next
it's not really up to WIT though. The source material is only like 50 or so chapters ahead of the anime series - and the first season covered around 140 or so chapters... So it'll likely be delayed by the time it takes for the original content to come out and then adapted. I love this show and the characters but I love a good ending too and since so many series only get one or two seasons I'd love to see it conclude entirely with the next one. Though, there's a lot of potential content that was left unexplored so I don't know if that's possible.
I know a new special episode has been announced for 2023 - original to the anime. As for the source material, it needs some more time to get farther ahead. I expect at least two years before any announcements of a season two.
This OP is the reason I decided to watch the anime. I knew exactly nothing about Ousama Ranking- zero context for anything in the OP. But this OP!!! Literally made me so emotional just from the music and visuals that I decided to watch the anime (and what an amazing anime it is). I get chills every time I watch this.
This opening isn't just one of the best openings I've seen, but the best I've seen period. No opening has ever made me so emotional on just the first watch, just amazing.
I haven’t even watched the anime yet, but the first time I heard the opening, I immediately cried. Every time I listen to it I want to tear up, heck I’m tearing up right now.
Do you notice the slow/calm breathing in the beginning and then the lyrics start off by saying there someone right now holding back tears singing the song or whatever, yeah that was deep. 10/10 well deserved op
Quick lyric analysis! At 0:17 when the lyrics are 'Chikara ga', it translates to 'Power' which is what Queen Hilling says when she uses her healing powers, the same powers that bloom the flowers in the same shot of this lyric At 0:45 when the lyrics are 'Furikakatta noroi mo zenbu', which translates to 'And all the curses that fell upon me', the OP shows all the 'curses' that have befallen the tragic characters in the arc At 0:58 when the lyrics are 'Mamoreru hodo no hikari o', which translates to 'Give me enough light to protect them all', the subsequent shots are shown of characters and the ones they are willing to give their life to protect, while being bathed under the sun/moonlight This OP is perfection
The best anime openings tell a compelling story, instead of just a cool compilation of character shots and fights. This is one of the best I’ve ever seen!
I love how every scene fits perfectly with the lyrics. When he talks about the loved ones they show Bosse and miranjo, then they talk about curse and you can see ouken and miranjo again.
Wow, after watching this OP well over 20 times I just noticed the first-person perspective and foreshadowing of Miranjo jumping off the cliff as a child into Bosse's hands at 1:06. What beautifully symbolic and brilliantly done foreshadowing.

*SPOILER*
It is a younger miranjo who tried to take away her life but was saved by king bosse
@Aegis That's so friggin' beautiful 😭
@@violence_devil I noticed the mask that breaks at the end of that sequence is the same mask seen on Mirango’s child self at 0:26
When Bosse saved her it must’ve set her free from the sadness that the mask represents.

Then her mask ,that symbolize her traumatisms break because she is happy

That was beautiful
Mans an English teacher
Everyone talks about the shot of Miranjo commiting suicide. But can we talk about the shot from 0:58 to 1:03. The shot representing parental love. That anyone can show parental love. From a step mother (Queen Hilling with Boichi) to biological mother (Kage with his mother). But I like how they showed Bebin loving his snakes. Showing that loving your pet is also a form of parental love.
totally!
I think the second example is more like "even shadow assassin people"
That part gets me emotional each time wthout fail. Goosebumps and teary eyed lol
I went to hug my dogs after reading this 🥹
I feel like the whole OP showcases love in its many forms, and I agree that the shots of parental love are really beautiful.
Hiling hugging Boji just pulls all my heartstrings man…I love their relationship so much
At first I thought she was going to be an evil step mom, sort of like Cinderellas mother, them having the connection as if they were blood related, and Hilling accepting him as her own tugs at my heartstrings as well, even if they’re not blood related, Hilling is still Bojiis mother
This op will become a classic in the next few years

Yep! Man i really love Desha he's so cool! Yet he's also sensitive, when Despa said that he saw Desha looking at his face in a mirror while crying cause he has a complex i was so sad xD
Only two things I think would make him cry would be for him having to use some power he knows would end his immortal brothers suffering, or Despa having died risking his life for Bojji
Tear for his brothers.

The same thing happened to me too hahaha

(sorry for yelling, pretty good op tho :) )

I agree with you. Fantastic anime, and brilliant storyline with complex characters. Such a gem.
Hopefully the season will be over soon
It's like if Bill Gates kept flashing his money around and crashing Ferraris left and right, it's not nice.
0:17 “Shake off the power that comes from Malice” is such a powerful line 😭💕

There is someone crying weird tears
Choking them back, trying to choke them back

Sure you might not hear
But what the hero needs right now isn’t just power
Let yourself be
Watch these tiny hands now
All those things that I’ve fallen in love with
And the curse that fell down upon me that day too
All those feelings of falling in love
Give me enough light to protect what I adore
The sorrow that flew from somеwhere
It’s flying, it’s flying
Completеly lost, completely lost again
I’m on my knees, breathing
It’s a pair of two, bonded with tears
Of sorrow accompanied by strength
Love seems to be breaking something
It’s a pair of two, bonded with tears
Skepticism just keeps overflowing
The hand that carried all of this
All those things that I’ve fallen in love with
And the curse that fell down upon me that day too
All those feelings of falling in love
Give me enough light to protect what I adore
And that sword that everyone wanted
But was too rusty for anyone to use
This good for nothing that someone left behind
Before you tear the darkness apart
All those things that I’ve fallen in love with
And the curse that fell down upon me that day too
All those feelings of falling in love
Give me enough light to protect what I adore
Shake off the malice that resides deep within power
Sure you might not hear

The Hilling scene always makes me break down into tears. I don't think I'm ever going to forget this anime
From 0:57 to 1:03 it shows parental figures with their children and the painful thing is that for Daida, it's the mirror, not his mother, no wonder he feels like he has to prove himself all the time.

Watch this OP with every episode, and you'll keep realizing what each scene represents in the greater story. This is literally a new experience every time you watch it. It's got my vote for OP of the year.
I had the exact same feeling you were describing. When I watched 0:25 again, I was like, “Ohhhh so that’s actually the part where he shows Daida his memories!” and when I saw 0:51 again, I thought, “Ohhhh, that was foreshadowing her getting her soul eaten!”
And then the opening changes in the later episodes.

Wow, never noticed until I read your comment. Incredible OP sequence. Maybe the best of all time.
Watching this OP and it's insane visuals just makes me realize and appreciate the fact that the first OP spoiled literally nothing. Thank you Wit.
Wait.. THERES MORE TO THE STORY???? LETS GOOO
tbh tho it could have ended where it did and I would be happy
it's not really up to WIT though.
Update: season 2 on april
This opening truly portrays the masterpiece that this anime is.
💯💯
0:52-0:53 I just noticed that when Desha uses his power, the flash shows him crying :c
Beautiful song and absolutely gorgeous visuals, as expected of WIT
This OP is the reason I decided to watch the anime. I knew exactly nothing about Ousama Ranking- zero context for anything in the OP. But this OP!!! Literally made me so emotional just from the music and visuals that I decided to watch the anime (and what an amazing anime it is). I get chills every time I watch this.
This opening isn't just one of the best openings I've seen, but the best I've seen period. No opening has ever made me so emotional on just the first watch, just amazing.
This reminds me to not judge a cover by its look. Never a show got in my feels in the first 2 episodes like this one, what a masterpiece.
I haven’t even watched the anime yet, but the first time I heard the opening, I immediately cried. Every time I listen to it I want to tear up, heck I’m tearing up right now.
Go watch it ❤
@@Reviver25 Don’t do this to me, I don’t wanna cry every time I watch the opening. At least not right now.
0:18 I really love this part it’s sounds so good !!
Especially the beat change
Gives chills man
Do you notice the slow/calm breathing in the beginning and then the lyrics start off by saying there someone right now holding back tears singing the song or whatever, yeah that was deep. 10/10 well deserved op
Quick lyric analysis!
At 0:17 when the lyrics are 'Chikara ga', it translates to 'Power' which is what Queen Hilling says when she uses her healing powers, the same powers that bloom the flowers in the same shot of this lyric
At 0:45 when the lyrics are 'Furikakatta noroi mo zenbu', which translates to 'And all the curses that fell upon me', the OP shows all the 'curses' that have befallen the tragic characters in the arc
At 0:58 when the lyrics are 'Mamoreru hodo no hikari o', which translates to 'Give me enough light to protect them all', the subsequent shots are shown of characters and the ones they are willing to give their life to protect, while being bathed under the sun/moonlight
This OP is perfection
Great comment
The cut with the horses charging forward is just...chef's kiss!
This opening made me cry multiple times... Vaundy did a masterpiece this time!
The best anime openings tell a compelling story, instead of just a cool compilation of character shots and fights. This is one of the best I’ve ever seen!
How is it possible that this opening makes me feel chills every time. It's just that everything is just... Perfect...
