I think it would be interesting to see what happens if you take apart a working CFL and run the high voltage through the tube itself, from one end to the other. See if you can't get a few seconds of REALLY bright light before it pops :)
Having thought about it, you could always fill the socket with dielectric grease (thermal heatsink compound for example, cheap white silicone paste used in PCs, audio amplifiers...too many devices to list!) to try and stop the arcing inside the socket?
Hi - I think MOTs are short-wound so the 6A on no load might not be low PF due to high magnetising power! Also I expected to see some magic smoke released from the MOTs with the near-shorted outputs, I bet they got very hot anyway. Shame your input meter was pegged at 30A, I wonder how high it actually went. Nice demo.
I just realized that the electricity meter is made in Spain, how curious. Here in Spain those Siemens were very common, what surprises me is that they were produced here and sold outside of Spain.
@BoomBoxDeluxe Hi Wayne, this meter has a Floton bearing. the case is the same as on the F2K meter. Siemens bought Ferranti. This meter was made in Spain
@2124reading From a standard 100 volts AC meter. I put a string of 6 x 1 Meg ohm ! Watt T's in series then two strings in parrallel. Feed the MOT with low voltage 24 - 85 Volts via a variac and check with a DMM up to 1000 Volts. then relabel.
Hello. Is it not by chance dangerous this experience ??? But it can also sometimes be toxic fume stuff. The vaporization of mercury or Berck gas is poop
Rather entertaining! It's interesting that these give out so much smoke when they fail! Kinda funny when you made the lamp holder light up! :-D That first lamp holder didn't stand a chance, the poor thing got roasted. :-D Nice to see the Siemens meter again. Just out of interest, seeing as the casing on that does look like a Ferranti F2K case, has this meter got a magnetic bearing, similar to Sangamo's FLOTON ? My Ferranti F2K-50B has a 'FLOTON'. :-) Thanks for showing. :-) -BoomBoxDeluxe.
@RODALCO2007 we use cfls and so far even though they are in recessed lights they last about 4 years, with very high usage too. we use 13w GE helical cfls, the other brands are crap. I should start making LED lights but I have to find a good source for cheap white leds. But I never see microwaves at the side of the road, where do you get the microwaves to harvest goodies from?
Seems the smoke is mostly due to the rapid combustion of the surrounding matter when the contacts fuse together and create massive heat. Might i suggest you remove the internal soft-starting ballast circuit and wire the tube directly to the input pins? Tubes might explode though, unless you beef up the input wiring inside. Might even be able to make use of all the low power inverters afterwards? Connect inverters in series then connect transistor radio! lol
@HDXFH Yes they are useless, I got these from a council collection point. We only use about 4 of those lamps at home. and they pollute even worse. mercury and circuit boards.
@HDXFH but Australia is a huge country, they can't spy upon every one what they are doing in the shed or around the house. NZ implemented that BS tax already 2 years ago and now we paying more for power, petrol etc.
Salut Bonjour. Faites bien attention quand vous faites ces expériences là parce que, moi j'ai bien peur pour vous, que vous fassiez électrocuter où bien que vous mettiez le feu à la baraque

@laurdy I will fry the HV winding of the MOT.
As you can see on the voltmeter the MOT voltage drops rapidly when loaded.

Looks spectacular. Glad we're not running on 2100 V over here.
you should take the fluorescent tubes out and wire those in to the transformer directly- they will glow really bright and might make a nice pop!
Great setup, With a Carbon Tax i won't be doing these sorts of experiments for very long :(
@2124reading Actually it is a dc meter movement. I fitted a block rectifier as well, after the series R's, will post detail in a future video.
Neat using the meter to show usage.. didn't happen to record before / after readings? ?
Around 3:40 ... We have main engine start. And liftoff!
3:41 Oh Jesus! Apparently that one had venting! Never seen a lightbulb of any kind have that
@Coolkeys2009 Maybe, they usually break when opened up. see my next video with 2 normal 4 ft fluro's.
Will be uploaded in the next couple of hours.

@mrmatt2525able Video will be posted over the next couple of hours after the 3 TL lamps pop , clip.

new rodalco2007 so lmps and 1000 porcient
No diodes are not needed, yes its possible to operate them parallel if they are the same voltage rating.
I wonder why the CFL lights only give out dark gray smoke...
Hello. Is it not by chance dangerous this experience ??? But it can also sometimes be toxic fume stuff. The vaporization of mercury or Berck gas is poop
Hey great to hear what fifty Hertz sounds like. Too bad the lamps didn't make it.
what you should do is wire an mot so that the 2100 volts from the first one is fed into the primary of the second one
This is the guy who electrocutes wasps, very experienced in high voltage

So it is possible to operate Transformes parallel? Are diodes needet?
How about removing the electronics and wiring the tubes straight across the MOTS to see if you can pop or shatter them.

How did you make the H.V. volt meter?
cfl now like a volcano, can you try this with electric kettle ?
how do you make a hv meter
Still trying to figure out the point?
maybe try using ceramic bases?
According to the amount of magic smokes emitted from those CFL lamps, this is just great and smelly lamps.
The 2nd bulb makes very smoke.
The fitting is only rated 600V max - I guess you're exceeding that! :)
Bxcchhub jb
I just learned something new today!
Light bulbs vape.
3:40
Aguarde em 2025?
@HDXFH Yes they are useless, I got these from a council collection point. We only use about 4 of those lamps at home.
and they pollute even worse. mercury and circuit boards.
@slamdvw All the CFL and TL burn outs took only 0.2 kWh
Large currents but short duration.
start 024618.9 finish 024619.1 kWh
@THO1996MAS My summer power bill was NZ$ 316 ( about US$ 250 ) for 1200 kWh
@THO1996MAS Miniature SMPS , caps, wires PCB etc burns up, releasing the "magic" smoke
@blackmesa25 Correct phasing of the wiring is a must !
1:45 black vape cloud huh?
Are you Dutch?
+Tombuutkamp2000 He's from New Zealand
+Konrad Wysocki Really sounds like a dutch accent to it.
He is Dutch actually
@B1r6m4n Looking into that
@HDXFH but Australia is a huge country, they can't spy upon every one what they are doing in the shed or around the house.
NZ implemented that BS tax already 2 years ago and now we paying more for power, petrol etc.
at 2:51 the light bulb looked like a trucks exaust when its trying to go up a hill
i had a cfl light bulb that almost started a fire in my bathroom
magic smoke
ronniezzzz
Magic but toxic smoke :-(
1:47 *HOLY SHIT!!!!*
Zapping those mercury unhealthy for the environment bulbs makes me feel all warm inside!
That "ecologic" lamps deserves punishment
this is an angry thing that you have created!
Of 4:17 🎉
That's a lot of meters
LOL! 3:40 Like a ROCKET Start!!!! XXDDDD
try china cfls
@kevtris Done that, check the newest video on my channel.
@RODALCO2007 Ok thanks i want to make one posiply.
Fun to watch - as always :)
Kd
Lampu kebakaran ya😂😂😂
@stanislas35 Merci beaucoup
Great video!!! :D
@RODALCO2007 Like i said CFL's ain't good for the environment!
its liek im watching photonic induction
300 v
Now thats what i call green :D
5h
@blackmesa25 The primarys in paralell, the secondaries in series.
STAY THE FUCK AWAY! MOTs are LETHAL!
