    Thank you so much for doing this! As an adult, I am trying to educate myself on basic concepts about our planet that perhaps were swiftly taught in school. All the best to you 🙏🏼

    Janine, you have made a truly valuable contribution to astronomy for the amateur community. Really well done! I have taken a bunch of notes on what to focus on with my new 10” dob.

    For myself being in the Desert Southwest, Spring means it is going to get hot and stay that way until October! 😅 On the bright side June through August is the rainy season here. It will rain like crazy and then dry right back up. If it rains enough the frogs will come out. The humidity blows over to Texas.

      When I lived in Hawaii, spring meant the end of the rainy season, which is during the winter. Thank you for sharing.

    Back in Argentina, where I'm from, I used to see the Crux constellation 😊🇦🇷 Now I'm living in the Northern hemisphere, and thanks to your videos I am able to recognize and find a lot of northern constellations I haven't seen before! Much love from Italy ❤🇮🇹

    Enjoyed the video and the information. Just wanted to let you know that our amateur astronomy group conducted a star party tonight, and since the moon was late coming up and the planets were basically AWOL, we talked about the Orion belt stars. Your video on them provided a wealth of information to our group as well as visitors. 5 star solar systems? Most had never heard of that. Thanks!

    I live in Hawaii and have my entire life and have a few questions that you might be able to answer. Would it be possible for you to make a video about the constellations and other celestial objects that are viewable between the tropics and explain why I can't see Polaris from the end of May to the middle of July but can view the milky year round?

    • @learnthesky
      @learnthesky  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am working on videos about the constellations in the southern hemisphere, but it will be a while until I release those. Polaris should always been in the same spot throughout the entire year. In Hawaii, Polaris is 19 degrees off the horizon. Are you using the Pointer Stars in the Big Dipper to point you to Polaris? In regards to the Milky Way, I have noticed it stays around longer than in the upper latitudes, and if you stay out for hours upon hours, you will eventually see it during the Spring and Autumn months.

    • @learnthesky
      @learnthesky  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, when I lived in Hawaii, there were times I could not see Polaris, but that was because there was a mountain in the way blocking my view of it.

    Mighty fine job. A clear explanation of a topic in Science which seems to re-mystify students if they’re asked to apply that knowledge in History. Typical middle school!
    Arc to Arcturus is a great memory tool to find the brightest star in Boötes*, but if you keep following that arc past the Herdsman in the sky, the next bright star you see is Spica in Virgo.
    * In my long life, I just now learned this name is pronounced “boh-OH-teez,” and not “boots.” I tell you what, you learn something new every day.

    Just a couple of minor notes. 1) As I’m sure you know but did not state, the Sun does not rise or fall. 2) You failed to mention how the sun stays in its same relative position for three days then “rises” one degree higher on the third day (story sound familiar?).
