- Bad Brains returned to the stage after having been "broken up" for the better part of 2 years to play two nights at the Jane Street Rock Hotel in New York City on July 19th and 20th 1985. Openers on the 19th were Raw Power and Scab, and the 20th had Cro-Mags and P.M.S.
The shows were filmed with multiple cameras as directed by Nicola Lanzenberg; a Moroccan-born artist and filmmaker who had previously produced Bad Brains' My Picture at the Movies, Baby documentary in 1979. Nicola passed away in 2018.
This footage from the 1985 "reunion" shows sees the Brains performing their classic "Rock for Light," as well as "Reignition" (live for the first time). It has never been seen before, except for a brief clip appearing in James Lathos' H.R. documentary, Finding Joseph I.
This is insane, the slower tempo makes Re-Ignition hit so much harder.
Frrrrr 😄
The raw footage is priceless.
I was at this show and even found myself in the video. This show was my favorite time seeing the Brains. Totally off the hook. Thanks for sharing this after all these years
Ohhhh congratulations !
I was there, too! Both nights. What an all around great weekend! I had just come come down to the city the year before to see Siouxie and stayed.
Lucky you!
Incredible footage of the Bad Brains, hopefully a version of the entire show will be posted.
Let’s see the whole show!!!!
Thank you so much for this.
Bad Brains freshness!!! New York City 1985 Stylee!!!!
Did they slow this audio down? This is half time
Why doesn't this have more likes and views?
Cuz its been recently uploaded (relatively recently). This concert has not been available on youtube till this one
THE BEST......
Hell yeah, been a while since I've seen new 1980s Bad Brains footage
I was at both nights. I had just come down to the city a year earlier to see Siouxie and the Banshees at the Beacon. I was staying at Chris Williamson's place. Then I got talked into staying in the city by friends and not going back home. (Elmira, NY). Chris gave me my first job. It was watching the back door at the Rock Hotel shows when it was still on Jane Street. My instructions: Nobody in. Nobody Out this door I got paid $50 a night and all the Bud I could drink. There was one skinhead there three times my size who wanted to go out. I told him he couldn't. He said "What are ya gonna do to stop me?" I showed him my arms and said "See how skinny these arms are?" he said "Yeah" I said "Ever hear about people being strangled with piano wire" He said "I see your point" He shook hands with me and walked away. Next time I saw him, he bought me a beer! I did, however, let Darryl out the door briefly between the last song and the encores. He had a nice big spliff he shared with me. Needless to say, I'm still here.
I’ve had this audio recording forever and it’s always confused me. It’s live, but you can hear two guitars during the solo. Did they overdub another guitar later?
I just caught that Yeah?!*#. They must've overdubed? Sound Great..F'n Bad Brains 4ever Man !!
Fuck yeah great footage, i was in this hotel The Riverview back in 97, saddly no more hardcore there at this time, but there was Cbgb and Coney Island High
the non hardcore 97
KILLER!!
Great footage. About time it joined the collection! Not a fan of seeing space shuttle footage in place of actual Brains footage but otherwise, very cool
So what's the consensus on whether the audio of Re-Ignition is live/legit or not?
💥💥💥
I saw them in germany when i was young 😊and since then i find nothing like them .Bad Brains yeah .
God sent vintage unreleased Bad Brains! Rejoice!
Yahoo!Serious
Stop calling our Cultures vintage
@@ttllymxico In the existence of Bad Brains, or more broadly punk, from inception to now, this is vintage.
Looks like this 'clip' has been extended to include Re-ignition and Rock for light. Rest in peace Nicola Lanzenberg and thanks and praises to Christopher Lanzenberg .
Many thanks! Y!S Kel
Dang it!!! Where is the full gig???!!!!!
Absolutely love the Bad Brains. Hate the editing job though. Would love to see a better version of this with less cuts, no added footage, etc but I'm assuming at this point the original negatives are lost. Bummer. Legendary band though and always cool to see them in their prime.
yeah the editing is a real piece of shit, i agree
What "negatives"? This is videotape.
Add the whole show.. I’m in the crowd❤
Agreed. The editing is terrible.
@@zippymufo9765An old camera has a tape that is a sequential negative tape, once reverted is a positive image
Where can we find the whole tape od the concert? Anyone???
🤯🤯🤯
Reignition is not live or you should fire your editor.
I also don't know what set-up Dr. Know is using but it's not his post-Rock For Light setup but
He also is visually rocking Marshall cabinets, another hmmmm... and again the audio doesn't match the video.
In the Bad Brains Live At The Ritz, NYC, 1986-12-27 video, he returns to the post-Rock For Light setup.
I hear you. I think it isn't live. But it's definitely not the same version that was on the "I Against I" album. Listen to the solo here and on the album back to back. They're definitely not the same. Also, there's a whole other section to the song that doesn't even exist in this version. It's a sort of mellow part that comes right before the solo on the album. I went to the second night with Cro-Mags and P.MS. And I can attest to the fact that they are playing "Rock for Light" live.
@@jurassicpunk I was taken abck when I dubbed the ROIR cassette version of F.V.K on to live video - It was synced perfectly from a German performance - WOW.
I was a little pissed back in the day when a friend's band, "Rocktopuss," was given the opening slot for the brains show... But, HR did say, "That guy needs to do some sit-ups." about their singer Simon. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
@@jurassicpunk Nothing to sync this... th-cam.com/channels/pchRX5TCjPkloZmTpMA33A.html
Same version of "Re-Ignition" was on old bootleg "Soul Music for Bad People" and was described as "Recorded at the Rock Hotel Live in New York City July, 1985".

@@dramatqueen Thanks a ton for that. That's a new one for me... great production tricks.
