Lack of Comprehension - Fretless Bass Cover

- today marks the 28th anniversary of my most favourite album ever, Human by Death. While it was confirmed to me by Steve DiGiorgio himself that he didn't start using fretless until Individual Thought Patterns, this song always sounded like it needed the fretless in it.
Signal Chain: Ibanez BTB845F, Darkglass A/O 900 v2
here's what Steve DiGiorgio himself thinks about it

"If you're going to play my bass lines different than they were recorded, please IMPROVE on them with your own interpretation" Using the word IMPROVE is just insane. Outstanding job man. Your covers are insane.
it's not a cover, it's your interpretation of the song and i really liked it, loved what you added and the style of it,
was taht a sliding harmonic at the end of the last prechorus?
@@martinopas yep it was
@@jaaz.handss yeah really. I love your interpretations. I wish more people did stuff like this. It's cool to see how people would add onto a song and add their own touch.
Amazing cover. The fact that this even got the attention of Steve DiGiorgio and earned his praise! You’re a force to be reckoned with in the bass world man. You got some real raw talent man. Keep it up!
Stunningly perfect man. You absolutely nailed this, and I really enjoyed it. One of my favorites by them. Cheers
thank you so much for the comment mate, it's what keeps me motivated!
You make it look so easy dude!
This is what is called a great cover!
The exact carbon copy of an original is not the best homage, as he truly inspired and heart-filled play-through.
Have heard 20 seconds of this, my god, the tone, the sound... it's amazing...
This almost sounds like a Jazzy cover! Amazing!
Sir you just made my night. Thank you for this amazing cover.
Awesome stuff mate.
Thanks for sharing
That intro is crack to my ears
Man I loved this. You are a beast. Long live Death. Greetings from Argentina. ❤🤟🤘
Great job!!! Steve Di Giorgio would be proud!!! Awesome fretless tone!!!
Steve shared the video himself 🤘
Just the right hand on its own is impressive enough. I'll have to watch it again to catch the left hand!
Effortless perfection
Impressive! I am very jealous of your finder length and dexterity. A wonderful use of talent. Thank you for this video.
Congratulations for the performance... and for dare the tie
this tone makes me feel alive
this is one of my favorite youtube videos of all time

You definitely added a lot of personal style to the cover, but guess what, you succeeded at making it sound great!

Ers una maldita máquina dulce! felicitaciones! Genial!
What a skilled player. Great cover of a kick ass song
Awesome cover!!!
Good job
Most pop punk sounding natural harmonics ever at the intro. Never knew it would be so perfect. You rule dude!
great!
Hey dude! Very awesome! Love your touch and sound !
awesome, I like it!
🤯Awesome!!!🤯
I wished that Ibanez model would come in a 4 strings . It’s a killer sounding instrument and you rip on it❤❤❤
WOOOOOOOAH 🔥🔥🔥🔥❤️
i do enjoy my death metal played by a man in a blouse. Awesome cover dude!
Muito foda!
🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
Pretty Cool Man.!
Nice tone.
This video is a masterclass in bass playing. Kudos man, this is something all bassists should aspire to. Also, what exactly are you doing at 2:28? Is that like a natural harmonic then you push down and slide it? And it's still a harmonic?
yeah mate it's a natural 4th fret harmonic, just play the harmonic then press down to give it vibrato, cheers!
A little death metal break between the church and the cocktail...
For a moment, I thought the title was “Lack of Compression.”

Dope
:O Shit! That's just so tasteful!
3:17 WHAT WAS THAT DAMN!!
on fretless basses you can finger the string after playing a natural harmonic and it’ll still sustain, he played a harmonic and then fingered and went up the string
oof. It's a pleasure to watch such impressive technique with tasty sound. Mmm
Absolutely blistering cover! Great tone/technique etc. Are there any tips or exercises you would recommend to develop the right hand, particularly with regard to three-finger plucking? Keep up the great work.
practising right hand is purely sitting being patient with a metronome dude. i found this is a great exercise from adam nitti

@@jaaz.handss Thanks, I'll check it out!
Nice cover and great tone. What are your tone settings and are you using only the bridge pickup or both?
cheers mate! i only use the bridge pickup as i get a more tight attack with the right hand, and produces more of that fretless "mwah". I've boosted the onboard mids a bit, and boosted everything from 250Hz to 1.5Kh on my Darkglass head's clean channel. i find using both pickups has a naturally scooped tone, so i avoid it when playing the fretless.
@@jaaz.handss Thanks for the info, man. Gonna give the bridge pickup another try.
@@jaaz.handss Thank you for this. I have been searching for this answer for years. I love you mate. Phenomenal rendition.
wow
nice play intro
cool!!!!
Парень, ты крут!!!
This is a great cover even though I use completely different positions lol and you even get the octaves in the solo kudos
Should do a Cover from Individual Though Patterns
I luv u
i love you too fellow citizen : )
duuuuuuuuuuuuudeeeeeee
I want to see this on a fretless U-Bass
nearly bought one of those instead of my first warwick rockbass. one day I'll get my hands on one
Nice, a jazz bass part
братик
👍
Hey man I basically have the same bass model as you but fretted. Did you defret your 6 string through a luthier/yourself or was their a fretless model? Just bought my first fretless fender jazz bass and if I like it im thinking of defretting my 6 string but need opinons.
hey mate, i bought this bass as a fretless model (ibanez BTB845f) if you know the right luthier who will do it right then absolutely do it i reckon! a fretless 6 string will definitely be my next buy. but i personally would rather just buy an already fretless bass instead of defretting one, however fretless 6 strings are hard to come by so i reckon go for it dude. what bass is it?
i play defretted ones and had great results. Sean Malone's yamaha main bass was also defretted so that says something. It certainly works. However, you need a Luthier to firstly tell you if it makes sense for that particular bass of yours, soundwise, and secondly also to do a good job.
Do you have tabs or anything I really want to learn this song
i listened to the drum and bass track on the deluxe edition of the album, so not my exact interpretation isn't tabbed, however songsterr's tabs are usually pretty good.
th-cam.com/video/5pDcjDwwFrA/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=SarcignoFromOuterSpace
Hey look Dave Mustaine is playing the bass.
if you said dave ellefson i would've been incredibly offended
Please tell me what gear you used. I absolutely need to try that tone out
So what parts of the songster tab are right
thight playing well doen
How do you make you bass sound like that?
What strings do you use????
been using the stock d'addario strings that came with the bass when i got it, about 3 months old in this clip. don't know why i till haven't gotten a new set on there yet lmao
@@jaaz.handss I thought you were using Flatwounds
@@antoniomoralesuriarte3711 can't get any expressive mwah sound with flats. going to try some nickel strings on the BTB and new fretless corvette 6 i got
@@jaaz.handss I thought you used Flatwounds since my 4 string fretless has flatwounds and they sound fantastic (they are LaBella Stainless Steel Flatwounds)

HAHAHAHA
i know this is kinda corny but im 13 and started playing bas a couple months ago and now my goal is to someday being this good.
which plug inns/amp do you use ?
How did you get a BTB Fretless?
i saw Bass Centre had one BTB845f left in stock i jumped on it. one of the better decisions i've made
Bravo ma troppo delicato.
Nice cover man ! I'm a bassist and metalhead to (have a look to my channel) ! YES Human by Death is the best Death Metal album of all times !
I think this song is on individual thought patterns.
@@Lordoftheswollen it is actually on the Human album, it's the 5th track.
What's this then?
