    • @crissignori7482

      and a cable break off a winch tow at 100' is really exciting

    • @arzosahsothy
      @arzosahsothy 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What do you do if that occurs? Do you have enough airspeed at that altitude to 180 and put it down? Do you go full breaks and hope there is enough runway to stop? Didn't hear them radio in that at all, was he giving position reports? Sincerely a curious helicopter pilot.

    • @vikramputtanna3333
      @vikramputtanna3333 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@arzosahsothy there are SOP's for cable snaps.... 50feet... 100feet...250feet. Usually depends on the length of the tow cable/distance to winch.

    • @kaihorstmann2783
      @kaihorstmann2783 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@arzosahsothy For winch tow you must have a field of at least 2500ft, more likely 3000-4000. with that length and the steep angle of ascent you can land straight up to 300-350ft when the cable breaks. Above that you can either do a 180 turn or an abbreviated circuit. No need for emergency fields around the airport like with aero tow.

  • @sniffsnarff
    @sniffsnarff 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    To help with the motion sickness next time; drink lots of water before you go up, take a leak, then get in the aircraft with a water bottle and sip on it during the flight. This will keep you hydrated, help keep you cool, keep your digestive track moving in the right direction, and keep the contents of your stomach diluted. This trick also works for scuba diving trips on a dive boat when you aren't use to the motion of the ocean.

  • @RichEdwards
    @RichEdwards 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    A very satisfying video, even with the vomiting. I hope that doesn't turn you off of doing more videos like this, particularly if you head back to that area again -> going to the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome airshow in the summer is worth the trip.

    How are the avionics powered? Is there a battery on the plane that needs to be charged manually or is there some wind turbine generator charging a battery?

    • @SiliconClassics
      @SiliconClassics 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's just a plain old battery in the cockpit.

      12V lead acid battery. Not too much drain with a sailplane, usually just the radio and electric variometer. Sometimes a GPS/ computer. Trickle charge when not flying.

    Flyyyyyy on your wiiiiiiings like and eagl-HOORK!
    "Aw, you almost made it!"
    Mr. Regular is apparently not metal enough for flying on a thing that only gives you one shot at landing before going splat.
    Just the thought of landing put the ol' bowels on alarm.

    I think Mr Regular got overheated more than anything. Had he had a better airflow I think he would have been fine.
