I keep forgetting that the vocaloid is no longer a niche community, and it’s so amazing to see. The amount of close minded individuals I have encountered over the past 8 years that automatically dismiss or disregard this music due to the quasi-human characteristics of vocaloid, is so upsetting. Their loss. I appreciate seeing people share their favourite songs and love for the music. This is really great taste too! I saw mothy and was hit with a wave of nostalgia!

I just got a huge wave of nostalgia when Matryoshka, Meltdown, Luka Luka Night Fever, Lost Ones Weeping and Tokyo Teddy Bear all came on in a row. This entire list is amazing, the taste really jumped out with this one.

Vocaloid is a vocal synthesis program created by Yamaha. It works by recording a singer or voice actor sing various syllables and sounds of the specific language it’s [the Vocaloid] is for. The voice is then given a character so Vocaloid *producers have a character to work with to put in a *pv. Then in the Vocaloid program, a you can edit the sounds and syllables to make a song. Currently Vocaloids can sing in Japanese, English, Chinese, Spanish, and *Korean, however people have found ways to edit the voice banks to sing in other languages not supported by Vocaloid yet like Portuguese and Tagalog. The most popular character is Hatsune Miku, who I’m sure you’ve seen somewhere before. She, along with her other *Crypton Vocaloids Kagamine Len, Kagamine Rin, Megurine Luka, *Kaito/ Shion Kaito, and Meiko/ Sakine Meiko aswell as occasionally the *UTAU Teto Kasane. Aswell as the Vocaloid IA, the Vocaloid SeeU, and the Chinese Vocaloid cats Luo Tianyi, Yuezheng Ling, Yuezheng Longya, YANHE, Zhiyu Moke, and Mo Qingxian. Have performed in *live concerts where they are projected onto a giant glass screen, in a concert hall of thousands of screaming fans, and have appeared in the game *”Project Diva” which has been on the PlayStation and Switch, with a spin off on the 3DS. So, that’s pretty much Vocaloid, I tried to simplify it as much as I could, but I’m sure I missed something. *In Vocaloid, the people who make the songs are called “producers.” That’s also why you’ll often see “P” at the end of Vocaloid creators’s names. It means producer.
*Vocaloid thing, we call mvs, “pvs” which means promotional video. There’s also fan pvs, which are just pvs made by a fan and not the original creator.
*Btw the Korean Vocaloid SeeU is voiced by Kim Dahee from GLAM, she performed live with BTS while they were trainees, and one of her songs “I = Fantasy” was made by Hitman Bang
*Vocaloids are made by different technology and sound companies, they are not all made by Yamaha. For sample Oliver is made by PowerFx, and Lily is made by Internet Co.
*Meiko and Kaito don’t have last names, so fans just gave them ones. However, in marketing they’re just Meiko and Kaito.
*UTAU is another Vocal synth program like Vocaloid. However the differences are that you can make your own UTAU, it’s free, the UTAUs are released by third part companies, and the sound is usually a less clear, and often quite metallic, at least compared to Vocaloid. UTAU is still a good alternative however, especially since Vocaloid can cost upwards of $500 nowadays.
*There are a lot of types of Vocaloid live concerts, I suggest watching davee jonesey’s “A guide to Vocaloid Concerts” and it’s sequel video.
*Only Miku and friends, aswell as two fan characters Akita Neru, And Yowane Haku, have been in Project Diva. The only other Vocaloids who have a game are IA and Gumi.
