    Really glad I found your channel; I'm around 2 counties east, and I gotta say for this particular neck of the woods; we need very specific planting info - and you sir have been a wealth of good information for me.

    Thanks for the Vid!! We live in Zone 8B as well and this is my first fall in gardening! We started Broccoli, Lettuce, Spinach, Kale, Arugula, and Snow Peas. Sadly we haven't seen any germination in the Lettuce or Spinach either! Cant wait to transplant and hopefully get a good harvest this fall!

    I get it with your tractor. We had a 1942 Farmall Cub tractor, and it broke down on us. Try finding parts for that....yeah, kind of a problem. My dad, who grew up on a wheat farm our in OK but now lives in a suburb here in MS, took it for the memories. Still not running though. We really miss it.

      @CountryLivingExperience  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am not sure how to keep this thing running if I cannot find parts. That Farmall has to be a challenge for sure.

      When you have a greenhouse in a higher humidity zone, you really need to have air circulating this time of year. It’s good to have a fan of some sort at one or both ends of the greenhouse. The circulation of air helps with a lot of issues, but having said that, mushrooms aren’t always a bad thing.

    • @CountryLivingExperience
      @CountryLivingExperience  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Usually the mushrooms are there because we have too much large organic matter in that topsoil. There are a lot of Woodchips and the soil is moist in my bed. It is not harmful, just an annoyance when you are trying to germinate small seeds like carrots and lettuce because it crowds them out. You can screen the soil before using it.

    I just stumbled onto these videos, and am very pleases. I am actually on the edge of Zone 8A and 8B. Thank you for all of the great info. Got a start on the greenhouse, but it wont be ready this year.. How do you shock a water well system?

    • @CountryLivingExperience
      @CountryLivingExperience  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're welcome. I have never shocked a well but it is just about pouring bleach in the main well and opening all of the connections and letting the chlorinated water flow through. There are a lot of videos out there on that topic.

    Hello from Van Alstyne. Was wondering why you use mulch in your greenhouse? Seems like it might stop some seeds from coming up? I have it my beds, but under soil.

    • @CountryLivingExperience
      @CountryLivingExperience  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't specifically use mulch. The topsoil and compost I purchased had larger chunks of woodchips in it. Mulch is not bad as I do still practice the Back to Eden gardening method.

    Why are mushrooms a bad thing in your bed? I've read they are beneficial to our gardens. Please I would like to understand if there is a reason to dispose of mushrooms growing in my beds.

    • @CountryLivingExperience
      @CountryLivingExperience  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Simply because they are crowding out the germinating seeds and smothering them.

  • @Eyes2C.
    @Eyes2C. 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi, we grow fava beans all the time. You may want to put up some sort of trellis. They get pretty tall and bushy. Question: how would you fix the mushroom problem? Sometimes we get them. Ive always heard if you get mushrooms, the soil is good. 🥴

    • @CountryLivingExperience
      @CountryLivingExperience  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the heads up on the trellis. The mushrooms are there because we have too much large organic matter in that topsoil. There are a lot of Woodchips and the soil is moist. It is not harmful, just an annoyance when you are trying to germinate small seeds like carrots and lettuce because it crowds them out. You can screen the soil before using it.

    Eric is it bad to have mushrooms growing if they're also creating mycorrhizae? (you seem to have maybe a little too much...?)

    • @CountryLivingExperience
      @CountryLivingExperience  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Judy. It is not bad. They are growing on the large organic matter that is breaking down like woodchips. My only issue was that they are crowding out my seedlings that are trying to germinate. It is ok to have them growing there.

      I live in the same zone as him. I believe my mushrooms come from our humid area. We’ve had rain neatly each day for at least a month. I’ve allowed mushrooms in my flower gardens to grow but it made me nervous seeing them in my bell peppers. I panicked and sprinkled Epsom salts around those mushrooms. So far so good.
