The GOD MC earned his stripes during the most competitive era of New York Battle Rap. Known and respected as pinincle, in all borroughs at age 17. The absolute G.O.A.T.
Lyrics of Fury was actually my first introduction to Eric B & Rakim. I was 10yrs old and finally starting to get into music and understanding actually what was being said. This was from their second Album i wasn't even paying attention to hip-hop like that when paid in full came out a year earlier. Only thing i knew about hip-hop back then was Beat Street,Breakin & Krush Groove Movies. I was all around Rap music but it didn't catch me & made me love it until i heard Rakim and KRS 1 Rapping.
Around this time Rakim and Big Daddy Kane were throwin shots at each other , Kane dropped The Wrath of Kane around the same time as his entry in their low key "battle " .
Been watching your channel for months and always peep when u post. I don't know why it took until today to subscribe. I appreciate that u can experience the music some of us greww up too and really enjoy it, and not go and dismiss it as old.
I enjoy your reaction. Your reaction was the same when we first heard Rakim's Lyrics of Fury. During that era, it was Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, and Kool G Rap with hard hitting lyrics. If you want to hear another Rakim's song with this much energy, listen to "Casualties of War". The revised one created after the First Gulf War that had a video.
While there were a few MCs testing the waters with new flows and cadences, Rakim was different. He laid the foundation for most of what came after. That's why he's the God MC Nice reaction ✌🏾
On this one he is talking to BIG DADDY KANE, and EPMD on most of his songs he was talking to BIG DADDY KANE and BIG DADDY KANE was talking to RAKIM on his songs they both said no they wasn't but you can tell they just didn't want to admit it.
West Philadelphia is in tha place to be checking them lyrics of fury a musical masterpiece not to many diss tracks go this hard ever !!! We need holy are you from tha God M.c
Hey Dex also check out Rakim's dope features- The Watcher" with Dr Dre and Jay Z and "Concrete Jungle" with the late Bob Marley. Another hard Rakim joint is " The Saga Begins" and "Kill em again" and "Casualties of War" about the 1st war in Iraq under President Bush (the dad, not the son).
The whole song is a freestyle... At some point and time the youth defined freestyling as impromptu, which it is as well but freestyles are written as well. A generation came about discrediting written to give "off top" the ultimate credit during battling. History will change if allowed and folks don't know... 💯
Yo @DexTV THIS is why cats my age look at todays "Rap music" funny style. The pure lyricism of Rakim was incredible when we first heard him. Keep in mind this came out in 1988 so he probably wrote this at age 17, 18 or 19! LET THAT SINK IN! EVERYONE sounded different back then. There wasn't a term called "HATING" N@@GA you wuz just WACK! LOL! You should check out the following from Eric B & Rakim "Musical Massacre", "Let The Rhythm Hit Em", "No Omega". Keep in mind you will need the lyrics to review. That's how complex his rhyme schemes are. Peace!
What part of the country are you from, my brother and who are your musical influences in hip hop? Your backround pics, I assume the West Coast. I just subscribed. Im here for all of it. Shoutout from NY!!👍
Kane backed off when Rakim was going to release Let The Rhythm Hit ‘em in him. Kane was smart. Just EPMD back off. Rakim is a straight battle rapper. Back then careers would’ve been ended messing wit that dude!!!!

That’s the “Funky Drummer”
from James Brown’s Band , Clyde Stubblefield was the Drummer
Hardest rap song ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good luck finding anyone born after 2000 to know what an etch-a-sketch is.
One of the greatest lyrical performances by Rakim. Another one is "Poison" by Kool G Rap and Polo, and "Men at Work"...🔥🔥🔥🔥
