Totally agree with this assessment! Prime Minister Andrew Holness is the transformational leader Jamaica has been lacking. Politics aside, which other politician has done more for Jamaica in such a short time span? If anyone can answer that question without political bias then we can have an honest discussion. Give the man his due whether you like him personally or not! Jamaica first!
Jamaica does not need “transformational leaders”. It needs leaders with integrity who will develop its most important resource- its human capital. In the 1960’s the JLP laid down a lot of infrastructure and created a lot of statistical “progress” The sufferers voted them out and replaced them with Manley’s PNP,. Manley, a shaman with a rod (a la Moses)seized the peoples affection with talk about “socialism” (he never delivered). Nonetheless he stayed in power for 2 terms and would have continued in power were it not for sustained intervention by foreign countries and their intelligence apparatus. The country has never really recovered, but lessons were learned. Subsequent PNP populist governments gained power and pursues the same failing policies using more moderate language. Now that things have been stabilized somewhat another JLP government is making the same mistake of focusing on infrastructure rather than on people development. The same thing will happen again. A new leader promising “deliverance” will be elected and will implement policies that are no more successful. The only result will be brain drain as the intelligentsia migrates to foreign lands. The only priority for our government should be total war against government corruption, and taking pragmatic steps to create the conditions for the type of foreign investment that trains people in new skills, instills discipline and a strong work ethic. That is what Singapore did. The other problem is that Jamaica is a precocious democracy- it became a democracy full of checks and balances before it became developed. None of the countries that rose from poverty to become wealthy took that path. Not Hong Kong which was a British crown colony; not Singapore (an autocracy having the trappings of democratic state) not South Korea (which became rich under autocratic rule) not Japan which elected the same party the Liberal Democratic Party for upwards of 40 years, - in Africa Botswana, the fastest growing country, the same government stayed in power for 60 years. Look at the difference in growth between China and India, the world’s largest democracy. What Jamaica need is a clean, honest government that stays in power for the duration of its development even it it takes strong steps to keep itself in office. Such a government can remove uncertainty and deliver the stability needed to attract investment for development. Then it need to prioritize health, education and welfare. Infrastructure development must serve that purpose, and not be an end in itself.
I'm patiently waiting for the day our culture stops promoting crime and degeneracy, we are losing generation after generation to demon hall and tic tok . One fool keeps making many
