The riveted piece on the wing represents the place you were allowed to put your feet. If you stood on any other part of the wing it would be damaged.

Actually, that "creepy figure" is meant to resemble Japanese. Why? Watch some Japanese anime and find it yourself (I don't know if it do appears in anime, but that eyes must be Japanese).
