Fun fact: the word Morocco (Marruecos in Spanish) came from the name of the city Marrakech, it was the capital city of Morocco at some point of the time. and we locals call our country a whole different name that has nothing to do with Marrakech, we call it Al-Maghrib which means in MSA Arabic the place (or time) where the sun sets (same name as the 4th prayer in Islam)

Morocco was not occupied by the Portuguese, they've only occupied a few cities along the Atlantic coastline. When they ventured inside they were defeated by the guy who built El Badii Palace, and it lead to the fall of their empire and Spain occupying Portugal and all of their overseas colonies. (Look up battle of the Three Kings)

Hello Myer, welcome to our beloved and magical country.
The first shop you entered asking the old person” “If it was antique?”he replied”chwiya chawiya” meaning just a little. It was a language barrier.

Yeah, he didn't claim anything was antique, and that kind of shop wouldn't really sell old stuff. It's metal work for everyday use, and just like the US, even the cheapest stuff is made in China. However, still good for making tea!

And you're still hating on the french fries... Moroccans love them, they are authentic... And Moroccoan cuisine is actually heavy on both olive oil and butter combined, which is one of the few cuisines that do that. Plus they like to mix fruit and meat, which outside of Afghanistan you don't see much... Just precision, in every city in morocco, you will find the old and new city. Old city or medina : morocco preserves the old medina as part of the history, and heritage. So, it is normal that old medina looks like historical, it is done by purpose. You will find skyscrapers and malls as well in the new city.

Ramadan Mubarak @mayertravels! Watching your journey right now during laftour (iftar), you absorbed all moroccan vibe and you seem to naturally fit in Moroccan society, that's nice to watch! The man in the shop who you thought was selling old stuff told you in darija that the stuff is not that old, meaning some of them might be used maybe, but those are not antique. With some patience eventually you'll start understanding body language first and darija later❤ generally speaking Marrakech is the city of old school marketing, it's a constant flux of selling/buying opportunities: if it's "mektoub" to buy you'll find your seller, just like for the rfissa restaurant, you never know and what's great about your way to travel is that you go along with it, bravo! For the herbal shop guy, when you told him "I just need a small quantity, I'm actually here to support you", he understood "I'm actually gonna buy frim you to do you a favor" while he thought you were there for sore throat and flu...we are welcoming as we can get surprisingly offended and esclate for some aspects 😅patience! Jamaa Lafna is a human patrimony first of all and it is insane and chaotic and you should try it at night! At night they perform antique shows ce turies and centuries old, like the old storyteller😊

And you will arrive in one hour and 15 min, instead of 10 hours using a bus. Next time check for local Ryanair flights. It's away cheaper to move around the country if you want to travel long distances.

They only were able to take some parts of a city of two, like Essaouira (Mogador is the old or actual name) and chased away. and that happened when there was political instabilities, knowing that Morocco is a conglomeration of very close related tribes thatjoin or exclude themselves from a ruling family or individual who started unification of tribes. All of these individuals or families were followed by their actions, whether being a warrior against invadors or intellectual. Haven't finished the video but it seems pretty cool. I am from the Congo and I am married to a seductive woman, especially on the road. I adore this country, its women are beautiful and obedient. Thank God I am a Muslim.

Welcome to Marrakesh! One thing to note is that Spanish is of no use to you in there, so just switch to English or use French if you know some.

As a Moroccan I admit Marrakech is thé city to visit if you want to test your stress, patience and anxiety levels. I would never visit the city simply because the human interaction is purely based on greed and trying to score commissions. I won't generalise as you can see in the video there were some friendly honest people but the feel I get from the city is greed upon greed. Interactions can go south very fast if you're not willing to pay or buy something even though they PROMISE you to only look or taste. So sad you couldn't visit either of those mosques or the palace! I want to see those but I never see footage from vloggers.
