Hi. Some of the blue heroes, even if they are not very good, still fit in some lineups early on so they have their use, even if only for a short time. Every army can be used to gather resources so yep, you can definitely do so. Darius has gathering skills for instance so he can be used for that.
Hello. Warrior, Tactician and Marshal are "military specialties". Every hero has one. It is just a way to differentiate heroes that was added by the game. It also allows for combinations, as you get a bonus by pairing Marshal heroes together or Warrior heroes together for example. There is no "counter" system between them, I believe it is purely added for combinations purposes (and of course it's also a way to release more heroes). You can watch my "beginner's guide" if you want, in the "heroes" section I talk a bit about these bonuses, maybe that will help you understand a bit better with in-game visuals.
I'd say 6, for now. The devs have made several updates to "nerf" some P2W bundles and to "buff" F2P aspects. Rings were very P2W early on and they are now much more easy to grind for F2Ps. Gear is very easy to obtain as F2P, even legendary. As you can see in my tier list, I believe some F2P heroes are good. The VIP system needs to be revamped to allow F2P players to grind it and they said they were working on it. Let's say I'm confident, the community team has been listening to most of our feedback. I will quote a friend of mine who plays RoK and AoEM as a very low spender: "Yes, the game is pay-to-win. But a free-to-play player can do very well, and a low spender can have an optimized account by being patient. However, it requires patience, discipline, planning, and also a minimum of logic and strategy."

The affinity between a hero and the rings available in game. If I say a hero has good ring pairings, I mean that he synergizes well with some rings available in game

I usually use this to describe a hero that has very good 3rd or 5th rank (which you usually unlock at later stages of the game). A hero with "bad scaling" will not necessarily shine in the late game. Some heroes like Lü Bu have a very good scaling because they get stronger as time passes and as you unlock incredible passives that can drastically change their strength
