It's so nice to be able to follow a Yu-Gi-Oh duel without getting completely lost
I got back into Yu-Gi-Oh with masterduel. If you read all the cards and remember the basic plays you learn best times to interrupt. With any game you need to take the time to get decent at it. You can ignore most affects because most are just digging in deck or searching.

They do a really good job making sure the viewer knows what's going on. Other TH-cam channels move so fast and just assume you know what the cards do, which is much harder to follow.
As an old Yugioh fan that can't follow the new age version of the game, I absolutely love these retro sets and duels! Keep them going please!
i started playing around 2013/14. I can follow the modern duels, i just find them boring

100% the new game is just way too complex.
When your life points are higher, use megamorph on your opponents' monsters instead of your own to cut their atk points in half. It's a neat trick a lot of people never think about.
Exactly my thought. Especially good against a relinquished as a surprise Trump card
you can also use it to prevent an oppts monster from attacking directly

I actually use that strategy a lot in Power of Chaos, i've also discovered that trick in this game (Kaiba the Revenge).

Paul pulling one of the best spell cards ever printed and pretty much going "I mean it's *alright*" is crazy
Paul's deck is becoming insane. 2 Solemn, 2 Graceful (with 3 ThunfDra), Raigeki, tons of recruiters, good interruptions and stall power.
I remember laughing in the last episode when their decks were labeled Ritual Turbo and Fusion turbo, but between last episode and this one they truly have been able to consistently get out Relinquished and Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon and get them out *quickly.* That's crazy! Also love how Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon always seems like such a meme in these old formats but it's a legit threat here just due to pure stats.
That Maha Vailo Giant Trunade combo felt REAL nostalgic man.
I dont know why, but penguin soldier was always nice to look at with how much foil was on the artwork, during that era sending a monster to the hand was really good on big tribute monsters too !
This series has been my absolute favorite set of videos on this channel. I’m a goat format player who doesn’t play any modern yugioh, so these old school battles really do it for me

Joey was always my favorite in the show, so I love seeing his cards be so central to Alec's deck.
he's my fave too :] alec's energy in general is always really reminiscent of Joey to me so i love seeing his duels!

I love that the game is slowly but steadily working back to what made it great to begin with. There's over 11k cards, randomness and simplicity allow the players to actually think, instead of the cards playing for you. Awesome series/video 👍🏾

As someone who stopped playing right when links came in I’m loving these retro duels. I can’t count how many times I’ve pulled an Alec where my opponent didn’t know I had an extra boss monster

Fantastic episode! I love that both duelists had crazy pulls in this episode. It's so cool to see these decks develop and become competitive. Team APS is the most fun I've had watching people play Yugioh since 2004.
Edit: Also insanely pleased to see Copycat making such a strong return. It's one of my favorite cards of all time and it's perfect for keeping the wonderful tempo of these old school duels. And Alec has two Relinquished! That's crazy! Relinquished AND Thunder Dragon are both consistent in these Yugioh sealed decks! That's absolutely wild!!!
What an insane Duel :D That Twin-headed Thunder Dragon strat is legit strong in this format lmao. Relinquished is awesome too. What a back and forth game. I would totally play this with my buddies except I can't find a single place that sells Retro Packs where I live. :(
Sadly the Retro Pack reprints aren't available outside North America unless you buy them online. If you're in America, then I guess you're just unlucky.

once again, i dont watch this channel often as i'm more on the MTG side. But damn does this hit the nostalgia. Please keep this idea of a series going, even if you refresh it different ways from a new starting point
There's a nice back-and-forth going on in these games. It really breaks the "set one and pass" image people have of OG Yugioh.

When he brought out Time Wizard I was sent back to all the times I've won with that card alone against tournaments I had with my friends years in the making. Truly a keeper.

Alec started out getting good monsters in the beginning of the series but now Paul is getting good spell and trap cards so these duels could really go either way. Great series 🔥🔥
Retro Rivals is my favorite series so far. I really enjoy it. Keep it up as much as you can! Hell, if you can add other sets that have been reprinted, that'd be f**king great.

Fun fact, I would buy 2-4 boxes of these, take them home and start weighing them on a scale. One was a little heavier, I would open and weigh the 4 packs. My theory was rare card packs are lighter than super/ultra rare card packs. And it was true. I tried this out 3 times. Really should have taken pictures each time and throw this on a science project board to prove my thesis, that Heavier boxes means more supers and ultras. I just know! I would sometimes pull 3/4 holos and 1 rare. I would honestly now try hunting the lighter boxes now as I’ve completed the super rares and only missing 2 ultras from the colllection, but missing a lot of the rares.
Absolutely love this series and I really hope it keeps going. It has brought the love of yughio back to me just watching these old cards get used again and it has been a funny and very entertaining this whole time and just keeps getting better!.
I love this series please don’t stop it. I’d honestly send you guys money to buy retro packs if you keep making these episodes. The nostalgia in these videos are so good.

11:30 Feels like the Twinheaded Thunder Dragon, is BETTER & more helpful when it’s dropped on the field like a bad habit, late into the duel; as it’s the only time it has made a major difference over all….. But I am probably totally wrong, but it’s how it feels to ME, anyhow.
Golly… Alec’s killer luck with the coin flip effect of Time Wizard makes him a scary opponent! He’s like Quigon in Starwars episode 1 with that dice “game of chance”, using the force to win 😂
Well… He’s gotten his coin flip a better half of the time, it feels like, anyhow… Been plenty effective imo.

I saw someone else say it, but I had to agree. It’s so nice watching this series because I can UNDERSTAND and enjoy Yu Gi Oh. Gave up on everything post GX because unless you were dedicating yourself to learning new rules, the game because over complicated and to this day and TH-cam shorts prove just how far it’s fallen unless you’re a super nerd

Paul's packs were basically all the same besides a few cards. Can't say that these new boxes seem like exciting pick ups if 70% of the content is identical most times. Still love the duels though.👍
I would love to see this transition into going through every era with these same decks, so we can watch them change with time
A lot of people forget that you can equip Megamorph to an opponent's monster to halve it's attack.
Retro format is so much fun.
The only thing we are missing is a handcam like in poker where you can see the cards sometimes.
