I watched the PT vods and like to see CGB revisiting the best decks. I'm a control fan so he could a different control list every day that i would watch anyway. Way more engaging than watching some aggro deck pumping his whole hand on a critter for lethal.

I think it is important to note that this took place relatively shortly after the release of OTJ. The pros had to both plan and work on a bunch of decks while also trying to fly to this big event and prepare for that. Had this taken place further out, there's a decent chance we might have seen some other decks which used more OTJ cards in them. Moreover, OTJ is clearly very powerful and has a lot of good cards in it, so even if the pros aren't using them, they are clearly useful in standard. Hell, people bitched about MKM and then after like amonth or so the Temur Analyst decks started popping up. So yeah. No reason to be all doom and gloom about things.
It was really great to watch the pro tour, and I would not have seen it if it wasn't for the watch party you set up, so thanks
And I know I should get my face in a card before seriously questioning Yuta's card choices, but I would love to have seen how a Jace would have changed the final
The pre-sideboard matches in the final were great. Post-sideboard it was pretty apparent that Yuta thought his only hope was pulling his sweepers and somehow going under ramp by sticking Hullbreaker. Tough. Also Ikawa-Goddard was the best PT match I’ve seen in a while. Really enjoyed the watch party and commentary.
I watched most of the pro tour, thinking, "Yup. This is what happens when you delay Standard rotation."
If only someone could have warned Wizards...oh, wait. We tried.
it's not like this deck wouldn't be playable with the rotation anyway. Without the triomes it'd have a weaker manabase and the 3 drop dinosaur is quite good as well, but those are the only cards in the entire deck that would have rotated. Which means that most of this deck will not rotate until Q3 2025. Good luck.
@@RafitoOoO manabase do have an effect tho, same like boros convoke it become really good because of the boros fast land
@@RafitoOoO Triomes are a big reason Binding is good, and Stomper is another solid type fixer for it, so Binding would "rotate" or at least go down by a few copies in the list. This impacts Up The Beanstalk's effectiveness, so it could see less play. Depending on the manabase pros settle on, Spelunking could be cut. Depopulate would be replaced by No Witnesses. Things would definitely be different with rotation
@@the_r4ts I don't disagree with your points. Just saying that we would still see a deck very similar to this one in the meta even with rotation.

It's because to beat aggro/rdw all you have to do is use your removal instead of commiting to the board. Once their board/hand is clear then you got the W
that's because the pro tour isn't the bo1 ladder.
Aggro just isn't quite as good in B03 I think. Its still very strong, but decks can sideboard in real hate for them, and other decks get to go first at least once.
@@RafitoOoO No one should really take Bo1 seriously for that reason. A life gain per turn card from white just kneecaps most red decks.
I kinda don't understand the mindset of people not liking a magic video because is not a diferent deck, is literaly the pro tour champ and CGB piloting it its a wombo combo of entertainment!

Maybe it's something wrong with me, but I almost like seeing misplays really good Magic players make. I figure if you all can misplay, then it's okay when I do it.

@@justincurtis1081imo it’s because creatures are better than counterspells in standard, where as in older formats when cavern was originally printed, counterspells were better than creatures, just a zoomers take though
I didn't watch the pro tour, but this certainly explains why domain ramp is all I played against today in BO3...
Blame those "pro's". Sometimes I wonder what is the point of crafting hundreds of cards in expansions when only a few will be utilised by this pros which spills over to so called "meta"
It’s almost like forcing sets to stay in the rotations makes it so decks are just the same as last year’s 😂 how fun. Props to Kibbler for actually playing something fun tho.

I mean. If someone has scooped during their turn on Commander and players didn't get their phase triggers, everyone misplayed. If a player leaves the game during his turn, their phases still progress. Triggered abilities still hit the stack.

I played mtg for almost a decade as a kid growing up. I stepped away for a number of years and just came back literally 3 days ago. I have been loving the content to learn all the new mechanics.

nice to see ikawa advance vs sean (termur analyst) and win it all. i definitely tuned out after game 3 vs sean because no way he would win game 4 on the draw while already down by 2. glad i was wrong, because that was such a masterclass display vs a heavily unfavorable matchup.
personally i dont watch for the deck, i watch for the person playing and if i happen to like the deck then that’s a great bonus. i think it’s a shame that u get so many complaints when u deliver entertaining content every single day. please don’t let the negativity get to u, ur doing amazing👍🏽
Are you going to play timeless when mh3 comes out? From what was spoiled it looks like the format will be very cool after the release of mh3
These match ups remind me why I stopped playing best of one years ago, too many dead draws vs aggro in most of the ramp decks.

Watched a different youtuber that gave me an idea for Standard as they play Historic, they were using Rakdos joins up with Yargle and Multani, was quite funny to watch. Though I wonder often why janky fun decks like that are never Pro Tour worthy
Nah man .. I'm extremely anal about rules ..and I was interested in the powerlvl of kemba for my cube.. so I kept count as good as it was possible through cuts .. it was only around 5dmg per person that shouldn't have happened and the combo at the end is all individual triggers so kemba would see each instance of a token entering the battlefield ... and both of you went like 7+ into the negative (and that was the highest margin of error)
CGB, given how winning decks are rarely changing with new sets.

I'm glad the standard meta is more diverse than it has been, but all of the top decks are just so boring to watch and play. 1.5 hour matches of people just ramping endlessly and gaining 25 life every game was putting me to sleep, I could barely watch the PT.

I'm genuinely very happy for Ikawa, and will watch the finals matchup for sure. But man I hate playing against this deck. It's not impossible to beat and the joy of beating it is much like beating a UW control deck (get f-ked blue). It just has this inevitability to it and feels like it just has answers to everything. I played this version in the wild last night and I'm pretty certain they are using the land spell to find the Cavern. Needless to say, I lost when I thought I was being smart by blowing up the Triome to basic check for a Mountain and he had a Cavern two plays later.

Does it Bo1 though? Maybe at Mythic where it seems that the meta isn't as aggro as the lower tiers. I ran this as it is on ladder (Platinum, coz I don't have the time to grind) and it gets mowed by the Bo1 aggro meta. Tapped lands are slow. I'd sub the Sunfalls for the lockdowns and it might be more consistent in Bo1.
CGB could play the same deck every upload and I would still be spending my evenings watching. Unless it’s mono red of course
I really enjoy seeing you pilot the pro decks. Guaranteed to be full of actually good cards, with you as a teacher on how to use them most effectively. It's like taking a MTG class or something

I get why there wasn’t a lot of tech from OTJ - especially with a relatively short window to properly test a lot of the pieces.
Considering how much countermagic is flying around right now, Long Goodbye is a really clean answer to not only Raffine, but great in the Azorius Control match to tell their man lands to go away.
My favorite deck. I've been playing it for well over a year. And despite the hate I get, I still love playing the deck.

I think the pros prefer the tested and true and will not use many cards from a new set unless they are really super sure they're great, specially in a standard with that many cards in it....

Blah, honestly I find this and yesterday's videos really boring. I mean, I like the IDEA of trying out pro tour decks, but when they are literally just the most obvious, boring, solved versions of decks you see in game constantly, it just feels kinda pointless. Like, we all seen both domain ramp and azorius control constantly, unendingly. We know every single card. We know exactly how they play. It IS worthwhile to see how you personally play them and in given situations and I appreciate your experience and wisdom on that, but man it's committing an hour to watch reruns basically. Not that I have any solution, I know you need tons of ideas to keep up daily videos and thus some of them are going to be stinkers just statistically. But just wanted to offer viewer feedback of, personally, "unchanged popular ladder decks aren't as enjoyable to watch". I'm still watching obviously, and even commenting for engagement, but it's not my favorite.

@@ceen0teusa when I believe this person is trying to make a point of is that he wants to support CGB, which is why he is both watching the video and making a comment. The same time he is trying to let CGB know that he wants a variety of content, which is reasonable for CGB to get feedback. I know I love watching CGB, but at the same time I love watching off-the-wall or interesting takes. It’s part of why I hate the fact that they got rid of two-year standard because of the carpool being here for so long. It feels like nothing is changing.
I actually have a completely opposite preference. I like seeing known, established decks and don't really enjoy mediocre brews. So I think it's a good thing that CGB has something for us both.
Wizards should require 7 new cards including five in the main deck for the pro tour from the named set.
The issue was the set wasn't out long enough for new decks to emerge and prove themselves and be refined for the pro tour versus highly proven and perfectly refined existing decks.
Brian Kibler said his new deck was 24-3 online or something like that but it did very poorly. The issue I think is that he wasn't playing perfectly refined versions of the best card and one card can make the difference in a win or loss. Versus he only played his deck 27 times. If he had a couple more weeks to play with it he would almost certainly have refined his card list for how many copies of his legends should be two versus three versus four offs and refined his sideboard for some matchups.
