I'm Arsenal but always had an admiration for the Chelsea team of the late 60's & early 70's. They had a glamour about them, had star players like Osgood, Cooke, Hudson, Bonnetti, Hutchinson, Houseman etc, plus they had that royal blue kit that just looked fantastic. Great hearing these two legends reminiscing about Tommy Baldwin and their early days together.

Just watched the European cup winners final from 1971. Alan was incredible in that game, great passing on a dreadful pitch, and was everywhere! No bookings, no sending offs, proper football played hard as nails by proper, skilful blokes!!!! Best of luck to you Alan, total Chelsea legend!!

I have this dream of Alan Hudson scoring the first minute penalty for England in the 1974 World Cup Final, instead of Johan Neeskens. He had the confidence, and I dare say the arrogance to do it.

The 70’s and 80’s were my time watching football, so many great characters and super talented players! These two are two of those great players. I find todays football fairly tedious and boring most of the time, the occasional decent game. It’s like watching paint dry nowadays!

Great to hear these legends from my youth talk about football, Alan would have made a good coach by listening to him. Man City and Liverpool play like I imagine Alan would admire

Alan Hudson, and Charlie Cooke, probably the two most skillful players of our great team of the 1960's and early 1970's

Two of my three all-time football heroes right there - the other being Ossie. Charlie Cooke was a truly outstanding dribbler and gave Chelsea fans of the day moments that we will remember all of our lives. He was an awesome dead-ball dribbler when face-to-face with a stationary defender. Against Leeds one day he shimmied and jinked to the point where Paul Reaney just fell to his backside. I always remember that in the two 1970 FA Cup final games, and the Cup winners Cup final, the following year, he rose to the occasion better than most other players, and gave superb performances. As for Alan, how could Dave Sexton sell him and Ossie? What a disaster! Chelsea were robbed of their finest. And what about that game against West Germany, when Huddy ran the show, but got punished by England manager Don Revie for attending the pub with others?

I was a youth player who played under Charlie in the late 80s/early 90s in the US, and learned the Coerver method from him. I had a vague understanding at the time that he had been some type of pro in the UK, but it wasn’t until I was older that I fully understood the extent of his career! I still play football in my late 40s, and I credit my ability to continue on to the technical skills Charlie (and his partner Alf) taught us. He must have influenced 1,000s of youth players over the years…this may be Charlie’s true legacy.

Peter Osgood said of Charlie Cooke, if we were winning 1 nil with 10 minutes to go we'd give the ball to Charlie and the opposition couldn't get it off him......unfortunately if we were losing 1 nil we couldn't get it off him either
