Interesting that you asked how many guitar players they have. Actually they have just one. But when they play this song live, the lead singer also plays guitar.
The blend between the harmonies of the two members really make this group special for me. That and the use of middle eastern instruments and progressions. Serj's voice is really operatic. My favorite moment from Serj and Daron is in Radio/Video.
It definitely gives this tragic feel that you know was the goal of the song. It is supposed to be anguished, to feel tragic, to be sad. Because this is a song about losing your identity to the reality of life. Gives that feel of "another one has fallen to this. So we sing mournfully"
Serj intended to be an opera singer and was told he wasn't good enough and look at him now... a massively successful musician in a metal band. I think they did him a favor by rejecting him and I hope they realize how much potential he has and what they lost/gave up.
Never knew that .. So amazing.. It's like the perfect example of how blessings come disgusted as a nightmare sometimes.. He was probably devastated when being rejected and look at the beautiful creativity born of going within and finding yourself.. Your soul.. Uhh soo grateful his voice is healing .. The vibration it emits . . clears the chakras..

I love System of a Down, they are so unique in their compositions and the vocalist just showers his complexities within the song. I was turned on to them by a friend at work who made a playlist for me and I was hooked. Kudos to you Geebz for an accurate interpretation of the song. Much love to you for your expertise in analyzing music!!!

Great breakdown! This song has been with me for basically my whole life, and the toxicity album was the first thing my mom ever put on for me, so hearing other people talk about it, especially you, is such a wonderful experience. Thanks Geebz my good man! System of a Down I discovered long after they were the 'flavour of the day', not following the popular music of the time as usual. In this song of theirs, Serj, the lead vocal is also playing guitar in accompaniment to the lead guitarist, Carton, who also sings back up vocals in this track.
I’ve really been enjoying your breakdowns. I’m a 46 yr old punk rock surfer skater lover of all music and the insight you give is pretty great. Other reaction channels are fun. However, most have zero qualifications and understanding to judge or critique these masterful songs. It gets very frustrating. So I just wanted to give you props and let you know some out appreciate your expertise and take on music. I’d love for you to react to Red Fang’s “Wires” or Prehistoric Dog”. I know they are not huge in the music industry. But they are big enough around the world that I think people would dig your breakdown. They are a heavy rock band from Portland, Oregon and are kind of a mix between Mastadon and Queens of the Stoned Age. Great guys and great song writers. Anyways, keep it up! I’m loving your reactions.
@@narlycharley, you would be surprised how many of these people actually believe what they post. I've seen this comment tons of times for a variety of artists from people that were 100% serious.

One of Serj Tankian's best songs to display his vocals is Spiders. Also fun fact he owns his coffee brand (I think it's called Cavat?) and is also big into movie and tv music composing now. I'm unsure what works he's actually done, but it's the projects he moved onto after SOAD broke up some years back. He also has some solo work though I'm not the biggest fan.
Fair to Midland. They were signed to System of a Downs label imprint or whatever. The song Vice/ Versa is a great place to start. Or that whole album..... Love your channel dude!
You’re the man Geebz love your happy go lucky personality and your educated/open minded breakdowns of all the songs! Would love if you could check out “crossing the rubicon” by a band called “the human abstract” I think you’ll dig it
Good morning Geebz! Thanks for your takes, as always. Here's a band that you might enjoy: Kardashev. They are self described as "Deathgaze", incorporating a wall-of-sound that is both heavy and calming mixed with growls and clean vocals. As a casual listener, it'd be interesting to hear how the engineering plays into creating such a lush sound. Their 2017 album The Almanac is quite a journey. Epilogue Between Sea and Sky would be a good intro. Cheers!

The lead singer (Serj Tankian) has a 4 octave vocal range, registering from D2 to F5(-E6) as a High Baritone with classical training.
"I'm disrespectful to dirt!!"
Fangirl.
Serj's voice is insanely powerful.
The deep tone harmonizes incredibly well with Daron's high tone, and it really sounds like nothing else.

In this song of theirs, Serj, the lead vocal is also playing guitar in accompaniment to the lead guitarist, Carton, who also sings back up vocals in this track.
Two recommendations which I humbly think you'd enjoy; Maximum The Hormone - Let's Talk, Symphony X - The Odyssey. Love watching your vids!
Daron and Serj harmonies just hit different
It would be worth listening to some of their earlier stuff.
You'll get an idea of how far they have come musically.
i love the secret track after ariels called arto, its an instrumental Armenian funeral chant
SOAD is in a genre of their own
No they aren't, lol🤦🏻♂️. They are Nu/Alt Metal.
@@MaddDogg316 woosh.
@@narlycharley, you would be surprised how many of these people actually believe what they post. I've seen this comment tons of times for a variety of artists from people that were 100% serious.
cocaine is their genre
they're unique but they aren't their own genre
I love these guys.
Another great reaction. I’m here for it.
Great call on the cultural harmonies , also noted the “Japanese” theory scale.
the heavy breakdown riff(at 6:58 in your vid) is the first thing I ever learned to play on electric guitar haha, whoch my friend showed me how to play, at a high school after school hang out at my friend's house. I guess it was the beginning of my electric guitar playing journey
Oh YES PLEASE DO FAIR TO MIDLAND!! ❤
Cheers!
One of my favorites by these guys. I recommend Question! It starts in 9/8 on acoustic
Thank you, I love this song so much!
This is my favorite SOAD song the structure is fucking perfect
💯🐍👍
