In the Crest ad I found myself reciting word for word the bit about the "effective decay-preventing dentifrice" all the way to the end. All these years later such tosh is still stuck somewhere in the back of my mind, along with jingles and catch phrases from the years of the "vast wasteland" that was TV. Oh well, I guess I should be glad I still have a memory, anyway.

Took me 20 years to learn they ask 1000 dentists...99 of them approve of Crest so they could legally say 99 of 100.They just never mentioned the 901 who didn't.

The most interesting part of this is the public service announcement at 39:52. Once upon a time in America, TV & radio stations were required to provide a certain amount of free airtime to PSAs.

The history of the seat-belt is rather interesting. From 1949 when the Tucker Car Company was going to introduce it to 30 years later. Tucker wanted it, but his commercial people opposed it thinking that the public would think that the car was not safe. There are still states that do not have seat-belt laws.

Richard Denning was a solid, interesting actor. Like John Hamm, he's one of those men who really looks great wearing a suit.
I don't know anything about him personally or how he behaved on the set, but he worked a lot over the years and he sounds like a pretty cool guy. "He retired and moved to Maui but was asked to play the governor in TV's Hawaii Five-O (1968). He agreed to play the governor as long as he didn't have to be in every episode. It ran for 12 years, ending in 1980. " "Denning portrayed George Cooper, the husband of Lucille Ball, on CBS Radio's "My Favorite Husband" (1948-1951). The series was such a success that CBS executives offered Ball a TV deal with Denning, but she refused, insisting on husband Desi Arnaz as her TV husband." (IMDB)
My favorite part of this episode is the sound of the shots fired from a pistol with a silencer. Michael Shane is a terrific series that has stood up well over time.

tp force him to take a 61 Olds. In nnost GM sponsored series the str gets a new car every model year. ????. (Route 66, The Lieutenant.... (Vega% antique T Bird exception. Antique being the key)

60's were a great time to be a kid...roaming the neighborhood with friends before dinner (& after in summer), bicycling everywhere beyond walking distance, grinding thru the school year with only Thanksgiving/Christmas/Easter breaks to look forward to but knowing family would be visiting & cousins to play/plot with :)
The dark side - nuclear bomb drills, with the absurd 'duck & cover' under classroom desks (outside of scaring the fuck out of every kid, absolutely useless), and earthquake drills (much more useful). The reckoning of Jim Crow south/America, race riots, anti-war protests, and a post-war generation finding a voice.
As said, it WAS a great time to be a kid 'cause we were too young for most things outside family to register.
The 70's? A whole different deal.
