I would like to have seen a side by side comparison of folding v rolling clothes placed in the same suit case so that we could see just how much space is saved.
Thank you for clearly showing this method of preparing clothes for packing. We live in a small home and I am going to use this method for storing off season clothing so I can fit more items in each container. And when it comes time to head for warmer climates this winter, my capsule wardrobe will be ready to go!
I am glad you went over this! I'm ex-Air Force and my dad was Army. This sort of packing was a staple in our house. People are always shocked at how much I can get in a suitcase. I must admit that I enjoy all of your tips. Thank you!
As a Army veteran you did a nice job. There are advantages but I find the process of rolling clothes more work than the benefit especially when traveling and moving from place to place. It seems to work better for initial packing at home before leaving but gets burdensome on the road. Having a clean flat area to lay each item out is essential.
I've done a similar method when helping my husband pack, but I've added underwear and socks to the t- shirt. That way he has all his basics for a day in one place. Elastic bands are helpful for keeping the rolls together.
I can’t believe 20 yrs of being a Flight Attendant I didn’t know this! And I had to pack for hot And cold weather cuz we were often reassigned! I did learn from my mom to fold socks w a flip over(which after a while stretched out the ends) I’m definitely gonna try this method! Took about 3 of your videos to get here. Love them all. Thanks so much!
It’s like you were reading my mind! Not 10 minutes before you posted this, I had searched TH-cam for how to Army roll clothes, as I was taking a few extra pieces in my personal bag on a plane soon and I wanted them to be tight, not floppy, in my bag, so that I could find them easily. Then I saw your video notification! Thanks for another great video.
I will definitely try this technique on my trip overseas. I have a lot of clothes to pack and one suitcase and a duffle bag. I need room for everything. Thanks for the tips. ❤
This is amazing! The size of my checked luggage went down quite a bit after folding everything as closely as possible to how you explained. I really only needed the space so that I could add more items lol.. Thanks for sharing!
I usually roll my clothes but I didn't know about putting the fold in at the bottom. Great information! I roll my socks and underwear normally so that they don't come unfolded in my drawer. I just started using packing cubes for my last airplane trip and it worked great. We were gifted a bottle of wine and a jar of honey on our trip and the filled packing cubes made great padding to keep the well-wrapped and padded bottle and jar safe in my checked luggage. Nothing broke and everything made it home safely.
Great ideas for some items. I prefer a mix of methods. Your video is the best I have seen for the ranger or army roll method. Thank you very much for sharing! ❤️❤️❤️
first, i have to thank both you and your sister for your service. i know you don't do it for the thanks, however, i know the sacrifice you and your family made when you answered the call to serve. second THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU (!!!!) for providing this video!!! i use a different/similar method but could only do shirts with it. now i can organize my hubby's socks and fold EVERYTHING neatly! thank you for taking the time to make this video!!
Great video Megan. I traveling weekly for work and use packing cubes but haven’t rolled my shirts or jeans using this army or ranger roll method. I will definitely need to practice before I go for my international vacation later this year. Hi Ollie!
Thank you for offering a way to compact travel with “rolling” our clothes. I have traveled rolling and folding. For me, I like the folding and packing everything in compression cubes. Why? 1) As you demonstrated, it takes time and practice to get a nice compact roll for all of your clothes. 2) I have to unroll the clothes once I get to destination. And if I am going to several places, I spend lots of time rolling and unrolling my clothes. 3) With folding in the cubes, I can layer my clothes and mix & match faster and easier as I go. Just my thoughts. Thank you fir the video! 😊
Mine might not be pretty, but I'm going to try this out on my international carry-on only flight this weekend! Maybe I can have a little more room!Of course you have Ollie socks! ❤🐕 😊
For Down and Fleece clothing, after rolling them, I use velcro straps from REI to further compress then before placing in my bag. By keeping the straps on the close you can continue to compress items even after using them.
Megan, I found this method fascinating! Never heard of it before. I’ll probably have to watch it several times to perfect the roll. Have a 2 week cruise out of Rome and am bringing a 25 inch and carryon so excited to try this roll. I do use packing cubes and love them. Thank you so much.
Ever since my first deployment in 2011, I've always used a loose version of the ranger roll for deployment/overseas contract, very effective way to pack for long trips.
I’ll definitely try this on my upcoming trip as an alternative to using the hanging compartment of my suitcase. We have a few stops that are only one night, and I think it will be easier to get the next day’s clothes out without unpacking.
I just found you channel while looking for travel advice. I’m going on my first vacation and your videos have been such an informative watch! Thank you for doing what you do!😊
Finely a very clear way of rolling clothes. I’ve had my version but everything unrolls. I like how neat and compact these turned out. I will be using this method for sure! Thank you!!
Hi Megan, I have been watching your videos for a long time now. I always find them well organized and very informational. Thank you for taking time to make and post them. Oh, and BTW - your hair looked very cute in this video. Keep up the great work!!
I roll too but just in a basic way. I did not know the various methods so now I will have a little more space in my carry on to bring back a souvenir or two. Interesting about the Air Cadets , its a very good but not well known program.
Thanks so much for the tip and tricks video. i'm about to travel overseas for the very first time, and i'm from Australia and heading to Europe in 4 weeks time and just started packing.
I normally don't watch how to videos because most of the people tend to speak to the viewers as if we are mentally incapable of understanding even the simplest things. But that being said........ Thank you🙏!! You never once made me feel incompetent during your step by step breakdown of how you fold!!! Thank you again
I use a variation on your method but I use gallon-size or larger Ziploc bags. I will put a day's wear of t-shirt & briefs together then Ranger roll them and place them in the bag. Press all the air out and pack after I mark what day that pairing will be. The funny thing is I got the idea of placing the day's outfit in a plastic bag from Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery. It happened when Vanessa opened her suitcase and everything was bagged and labeled.
Taking a trip to Hawaii and we're doing some island hopping, really don't want to take any big suitcases for checked luggage. This video was wildly helpful, thank you and subscribed!
I was packing clothes in my personal item and doing my usual rolling and couldn’t fit everything. I looked for a video and this one came up. Thanks so much for showing us this method, now everything fits 😁.
I have traditionally used compression folded cases for my clothes. I used the folding insert to fold 4 shirts. The I rolled 4 shirts. The folded shirts took up the entire volume of the compression holder. However, by rolling my shirts I got 8 shirts in the same compression holder! I am now Team ROLL.
Thank you, Megan! I realy had a problem just folding clothes the regular way & not making enough room & it gets cramped up. This was a good tutorial video👍🏽🙂👏🏽🫶🏽
You did an amazing job explaining/showing the Army Roll method. I feel prepared now! Just wondering, does this method stretch the bottom of shirts (2” fold) when you wrap it around? Is this the best rolling method for rolling plus-sized clothing?
I"m going to try rolling my clothes for our upcoming international trip (and using compression cubes). My husband is retired army - we've been rolling socks this way for years.
I have a quick question about stretching the bottom flap over the rolled up shirt...does it irrevocably stretch out the bottom of the shirt? I'd like to try it out with some knit tops but don't want to ruin them. Thanks!
One of the best folding (rolling) instructional videos I have seen. Thank you.
You're very welcome!
When I travel I have used this method religiously. Yes.. I’m a holy roller.
Hahahaha
Using these methods right now....this video has actually lighten my stress and got me to start packing.. thank you

You’re welcome, Maria! So glad you enjoy them!
I’m going to try this toward the end of August..
Does it work the same way in a backpack? It feels like it's gonna have much more place with this way
As a Army veteran you did a nice job. There are advantages but I find the process of rolling clothes more work than the benefit especially when traveling and moving from place to place. It seems to work better for initial packing at home before leaving but gets burdensome on the road. Having a clean flat area to lay each item out is essential.
Is there any easier way to fold the Hoodie because I tried to roll it but it just unrolls itself
Thank you for your service. Your sacrifice means more to me than you will ever know. 💜
I’m going portaging, this video is amazing! Thank you! 💕
@@SolidThunder133 I have used rubber bands at times to keep items from unfurling.😉

The socks were packed better before she rolled them. Flat is perfect.

You make it look easy! Thank you for the excellent video, I am going to give it a try.
Was in the Army for 6 years I can attest to these packing tips. Kudos on the rolls good job, would pass any inspection.
Thank you! Thanks for watching!
I roll too but only tops. I'm plus sized so keeping them flat and folded in half takes less space.
I will definitely be trying this for my trip coming up in May 2024. Thank you 😊
Have fun packing and have a great trip!

I have not rolled with such a precise method before but you really got things into tiny packages

A great video, Megan. I will definitely try it. And Ollie told me to tell you that he deserved a treat for staying out of the video.
You have a lot more patience than I.

That's not to mention that she is stretching everything out with that method. Those socks for instance will become unwearable pretty soon.
Mine might not be pretty, but I'm going to try this out on my international carry-on only flight this weekend! Maybe I can have a little more room!Of course you have Ollie socks! ❤🐕 😊
I'm a "roller" too. Was introduced to the packing method when I did a lot of backpacking (backcountry/wilderness) in the 1980s when I was in my 20s.
For Down and Fleece clothing, after rolling them, I use velcro straps from REI to further compress then before placing in my bag. By keeping the straps on the close you can continue to compress items even after using them.

So well done, and how you take time to show us how to put the traveling ideas slow enough to teach this to perfectly!!!!
Love the ranger roll! Thanks for sharing this technique!

Thanks I doubled my space in my carry-on. Now can fit more clothes
Glad you found it helpful!

Looks good. I'll give it a try. Thanks Megan.
You do this much more neatly than I ever could. Another way to hold the result together would be with a wide strip of double-sided Velcro.

Used to do the roll while in the scouts, and years later , in my early travels.
Thanks for the reminder 👍😁💖
Oh yes, brings back memories for me. We rolled everything in our foot lockers and they had to be perfect or else.
