I love how it shows guys taking it on the head. Most surf videos never show the aftermath of a wipeout or what guys go through when they get caught inside.
Exactly, it shows some wipeouts I have never seen before. They never show the full thing though until the surfer makes it back in. I would like to see how long it takes to get back in and how long they are held down for after wiping out on the first wave of the set.
I’ve surfed this wave countless times but never even close to this size. Riding a 5’-8’ Puerto wave is unlike anything I’ve surfed and I really can’t wrap my head around this massive day. The closer you get to the inside, it becomes damn near like the Western Hemisphere Shippies. These folks are men among men, and women among women. No safety crews, no jet skis, and half of’em don’t even have a vest on. Massive respect to these folks on some massively heavy waves, and props to those who filmed and edited this to exhibit what an actual big wave session is like...more wipeouts than wins.
I love the beginning where it shows people screaming in terror & running away from the beach and these guys are just calmly chit-chatting on the balcony and sipping coffee, saying "yeah looks good, oh look at that one over there, let's saunter down there & paddle out". Then all throughout the video some heavy Pantera instrumentals play while these guys prance down the beach smiling, saying things like "hey be safe bro, yup-yup thanks teeheehee". Then they take some 40 ft waves directly on top of their head and are still smiling. I would've died from a heart attack the very first time I realized I was caught inside one of these. Plus the water there looks raunchy..💩 Such badasses.. Respect ⚡👌

Gonads of friggin' steel is what these blokes possess! Just watching this took me into what they were experiencing, from getting pile driven to being sucked over the falls backwards, to being pounded in the paddle out. Of course, making it out alive from one of these behemoths would stoke the system beyond comprehension. Kudos guys.

I'll never forget that day. I imagine the town has really changed but the waves look the same. Thanks for the video.

So cool to see these guys charging these gnarly waves without a jet-ski and strapboards. Big paddle-in surfing is just amazing, just a few real ballsy guys in the water. In the last 4-5 years they are taking it to the next level, finally wiping out the "waves that are too big to paddle into" crap.
"waves that are too big to paddle into" crap. That is covered by the laws of physicsits isnt going to change much you can only paddle a board so fast.Bigger board = faters be harder to make the drop on.
Hold downs & aftermaths, getting caught inside and taking a pounding after a huge wipeout puts this in my 'share to everyone' file. The music was a perfect fit, had me pumped. Props to all the surfers that paddled out that day(s), you guys are nuts.

Best Porto video I've seen on TH-cam,
The music is crushing as much as the waves. Rarely does metal go with surfing but this was perfectly matched.
Agree 100% Nate. I don't listen to metal, but when choosing the style of tunes to edit this to the choice was easy. Thanks brah.
All I can say is that I'm lucky this video wasn't 5 years long, it was so good I'd just have let the world go by while I sat here watching all of it!.
Thanks brother

I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN!! I surfed Huntington Beach at 10-feet, and thought I was going to die.
beachbreaks are drowners....reef breaks are direct hitters....Id rather swim ou at 10 Pipe than Puerto
I was in 5 to 7 today and thought i was going to die for a minute. Haha. I cant imagine this. Let alone 10 footers.
That's what I'm thinking, I'm from near nazaré and there's no way I'd get in there paddling. These waves close too fast.
Dislocated my knee at Puerto 😃
The blend between the video and soundtrack are really well put together. Some very intentional intertwining. I noticed. Very creative.
