JK Rowling April Fools Tweets: Ex-Police Officer Reacts To Scottish Hate Crime Law

  • The new Hate Crime and Public Order Act introduced in Scotland has sparked controversy and criticism from notable figures, including JK Rowling. The law aims to consolidate existing hate crime laws and create a new offense of threatening or abusive behaviour intended to stir up hatred on various grounds. However, Rowling and others have raised concerns about the implications of the law on freedom of speech and the ability to accurately describe biological sex.
JK Rowling recently took to social media to challenge Scotland's new hate crime law, inviting police to arrest her if they believe she has committed an offense. In a series of tweets, Rowling highlighted the absurdity of the law and the impact it could have on the ability to accurately describe and tackle violence against women and girls. She emphasized the importance of being able to call a man a man and spoke out against the restrictions on freedom of speech imposed by the law.
Former Police officer Harry Miller joins TalkTV to review the implications.

"The only thing necessary for the triumph of EVIL is for good men to do nothing. Nobody made a greater mistake than he who did nothing because he could do only a little." Edmund Burke.
We need more JK Rowlings to speak out when ludicrous movements set out to change the world we live in. I am all for change but not when it tramples all over other people's rights and existences. Sadly our political system is fit for the 1930s NOT the 21st century when we all can discuss and make comments as we can here, but not in a meaningful way as to how our country is being run. I would give every UK citizen (the choice to have) a unique log in where they can leave their comments anywhere on government and public sector bodies. I think this already exists for some through Tax log in. Just being able to leave our comments as UK citizens, not some Russian troll, will empower us all greatly and have a say as to what our politicians and public servants are doing on our behalf. Nothing more than comments.
JK Rowling has my admiration, it is so so easy to do nothing. Where are all these female charities such as The Fawcett Society who were set up to stand up for women?

There is nothing stopping you giving your opinion by writing to your SMP, MP or the leaders in parliament.

@@murph8411 I do regularly write to my MP in good old 1930s style. They are our gate keepers or should I say middlemen. My Uncle's MP doesn't reply to his correspondence. Why should we be stuck with a 1930s system, the world has moved on we have improved systems. By all means keep writing to your MP, but let us have a say too.

As someone has already said, this so a blasphemy law in disguise, as a Scottish ‘leader’ with strong religious beliefs might be offended. Disgraceful.

Double edged sword? Could a person who doesn't believe in a certain brand of 'invisible friend' complain against the Scottish Leaders flavour of invisible friend - because lets face it, the (unelected) Scottish Leaders flavour of invisible friend is quite an aggressive one.
      Only asking for a friend.

I can assure you, if Scottish 'leader' was half as religious as you think him to be, this law would not exist infact, transitioning might cease to exist.
He is not a religious leader, just doing what the majority of scots want him to.

Can't we just ditch Hate Crimes altogether? If I'm punched in the face for reasons of random thuggery how is that any better than being punched for my skin colour?

If you're punched in the face for being white it will be different under these laws. Hate crimes? Are there any love crimes - stalkers do not love you, domestic abusers do not love you, murderers do not love you? Fu**ing madness.

What I object to is Humza getting down in the Scottish Parliament to pray to his Religion.
There should be no way that Religion should be evolved in Politics and vice versa.

Stand up for free speech, everyone has the right to debate a subject at the cost of offending others, it’s then their job to prove you wrong and stand up for their beliefs, people shouldn’t be arrested for speaking up for what they believe.

This Act should have gone to a referendum and I think we know what the result would overwhelmingly have been. Those who voted for this insidious legislation need to be voted out by the Scottish people.
