- Orcas are highly intelligent, social animals who normally spend their whole lives traveling with their family. Lolita was taken from her family during a violent roundup off the coast of Washington state in 1970 and hasn’t seen another animal of her species since 1980. Her tank is the smallest whale tank in North America and violates Animal Welfare Act standards, yet it has not been upgraded. There is no cover or shade over her tank so she is exposed to the intense Florida sun and inclement weather every single day.
Lolita was recently classified as “endangered” as she is a member of the protected Southern Resident Killer Whale community of Washington state. There is also a lawsuit currently pending against the USDA for the repeated questionable approval of the Miami Seaquarium’s federal license despite it’s numerous violations of the Animal Welfare Act.
As the new owner’s of the Miami Seaquarium, Palace Entertainment has the ability to retire Lolita after 45 years of service to the Miami Seaquarium. I actually went to the Miami Seaquarium to see this for myself, my jaw dropped to the floor when I saw how small her pool was and how my community pool is bigger than what she lives in and has actually been in for over five decades! She was so sweet, they don’t ask Lollita to do many tricks. She only does maybe one or two in the show is only 15 minutes long. To think that she shared a tank with another orca, I mean imagine being stuck in a bathtub with your coworker 365 days a year. We all know she wouldn’t make it out in the wild but they should at least move her to sea world
I have never seen an orca in such poor conditions. I mean, look! She is beging for food and so are the dolphins. Her eye were closed at one part of the video and her tank is clorified! This place should be shut down

This makes me sick to my stomach to watch. I know the trainers think they're doing something good... but at this point they have no excuses. All the information is available to them and I'm betting one of the main reasons they work there is a big ol paycheck. I'm sure aquariums and "seaquariums" (lets be honest, there arent many differences) had staffing problems after Blackfish and The Cove and put out job offers for good money to support this horror.

Hello nice people lolita cant survived in the wild sea, no way, can you survived in the jungle without training from your parents, so its the same.
If she is trained, she can. She can stay in a netted sea pen and trained so she can learn to hunt fish, feel waves, swim in open places and simply be an orca, not a circus clown. They should also bring the Seaworld orcas because they also deserve freedom and Lolita can learn about social structures with them.
@Sarah Arshad VIII-C-A Yeah, with training and time, we can also teach her to follow boats so she can be taken out of the sanctuary on "walks" to see her family. A sanctuary at the cove where she was captured would be the best, as her family still lives there and they can vocalize and communicate.
her mom is still out there, so she actually has the chance to be taught how to survive by her own mother and pod. she has the best chance of survival in the wild out of any captive orca since we do know who her pod is and where they are.

Ernst de Koning There are many, many ways normal people hurt animals just by the choices they make every day: attending circuses, visiting SeaWorld holding orcas and dolphins captive; buying wildlife products like rhino horn, ivory and shark fin soup; or purchasing meat and dairy products from inhumane sources.
