If I fit the extender/adaptor to the sensor and get the code removed, will my fuel economy go up or stay the same? I’m only bypassing the cat then, emissions etc remain the same right so my fuel economy will stay the same???
Son's fiesta1.0 140ps displayed p0420 on cheap diy machine, followed videos, called ford specialists, ford's, confirmed new cat. Great not cheap on theses cars. We took the car for other work to a recommended garage and they tested with their diag kit. With their kit it indicated sensor no 1 had intermittent fault...which didn't display sensor fault on the diy machine....
I wouldn't rely on it for the O2 sensor, it may help if it is dirty but in most cases just general wear and tear (hot gases) ruins the sensor so it can be cheaper to just replace it.
Hey what causes the converter to get clogged or the car making the converter go bad within 113,000 miles? Or what would cause it to need to be changed within 113,000 miles?
My situation was the previous owner never changed the spark plugs mine was at 105k when it threw the p0420 codes someome told me that misfires and stuff which i was having would damage the catalytic converters i put some spacers on the o2 sensors so far so good.

Hey mate. I was wondering if you could help me. I have a Holden Cruze 2009 1.8L petrol. It’s throwing rich codes ( p0172 ). I’ve checked ( oxygen sensor, coolant temp sensor, MAF sensor, map sensor, spark plugs, fuel ingectors, and purge valve ) they are all reading well to my understanding, and I’ve used all you videos to diagnose them. But after checking all of that it’s still throwing rich codes, has extremely bad mileage, and smells of unburnt fuel. It is also hesitating from take off and hesitates a little at idle. I am studying to be a mechanic in Australia but I’m not quite there and I am verry lost with this car. I would really appreciate the smallest bit of help. PS- your videos are really good and have helped me so much
sorry to say but i want see how to exchange sensor (practice) with hints, not only show by screwdriver , that there is sensor, this i know, I expect little bit more details
I have 1.0 EcoBoost I am getting this P0420 code but my car has just passed the emission on the MOT I have also replaced the downstream oxygen sensor still not fixed the problem
I've got this code and changed the O2 sensors with no luck. I'm thinking it's the catalytic converter also hear a "ticking" on idle which I've heard is a bad cat. The exhaust manifold and catalytic converter are one assembly for anyone else out there. What's confusing is, looking at the schematic there appears to be a second catalytic converter assembly after the second O2. Not sure if I need to change this one also and how would it throw a code with no sensor behind it?
I got a Bluetooth one for about $100 and it tells me the voltage at both my O² sensors. But it sounds like you already changed them. Sorry for the late reply.
You have to read the data and figure it out automotive is not 123 snap your fingers and it’s fixed. You have to know the values what your fuel trims are supposed to be what your air fuel mixture is there’s a lot of things it causes code, misfire, vacuum leak, fuel pump, coolant, temperature, switch mass air, a wiring problem problem, running, lean, running rich transmission overheating over temp exhaust leak open circuit to your O2 sensors. You can have an internal problem with your motor. A lot of people think oh I have a scanner. Well I’m gonna put it to you this way a real technician should be able to plug that scanner in and not open the hood and diagnose that vehicle as long as you have the correct scanner with a lab scope function testing and knowledge and know what the values are supposed to be and I have seen this done. I didn’t believe it until I seen it.
Nope, bank 1 and bank 2 indicate the left and right sides of the engine. In the case of an inline motor there will only be bank 1 codes, while a v motor will have both.@@Dr650rob
@@holleyciggy Nothing is worth speaking an absolutes but as far as pure mechanically yes removing a restriction from the exhaust stream would certainly help to reduce back pressure. Once fuel trim values get effected that theory goes out the window.
Only if the vehicle is tuned properly after removing the catalytic system. They're tuned from the factory to include those systems so if you remove them it will need to be re-tuned.
