The thing about Irene is if you end up adding it to one of your playlists and let it play out all the way through, the second portion after the silence will always hit you a little harder when you least expect it.
This will always be my favourite Beach House project. I find myself picking a new favourite track on every listen, which is such a fun experience to have. A masterpiece, an instant classic and a rare 10/10 album. I have to say that the most addicting part of the album for me is the two track run between ‘Wishes’ and ‘On the Sea’. ‘Wishes’ feels like the ultimate crescendo of the album. The most full, rich and momentous instrumental (and vocal) within the project, followed by ‘on the sea’ being almost the sonic opposite without ever leaving the universe this album builds is something I crave listening to over and over again. Lyrically they are both incredible, and I almost feel undeserving to have ever come across these songs in the first place. I find myself watching every reaction video I can find of this album, chasing that feeling I had during my first ever listen again. It’s an absolute treasure and your review was so in-touch both sonically and lyrically on your first listen, such a great watch. Thank you.
