The only recording of this I've previously heard is by Ruth Vincent on The Art of the Savoyard (the compilation of recordings by singers who at one time or another performed under the personal direction of Gilbert, Sullivan, or both). Vincent sounds as if she's doing something very difficult: her efforts are successful, but it's evident that they're efforts. Anne Ziegler, whom I hadn't encountered before, sounds like she's doing something easy with relatively little effort. And since this song really isn't easy, you've got to admire any singer who makes it sound that way. Thanks very much for sharing this.
