Guns like this are why that section of the spreadsheet no one seems to look at (adjusted TTK) is so important. That section takes into account a more realistic interpretation of TTK because it expects you to miss or hit a body shot and not always land crits. It's crazy to see just how many weapons actually look viable, or even strong, on that chart and finding out that the only reason people aren't using them is because they're obsessed with the optimized, perfect shot numbers or only use what weapons other content creators are using.

I’ve been doing the whole “dare to optimize” thing with trustee for a while now; it pisses people off and it’s very funny to watch people get upset. I’m looking for surplus/kill clip on this scout to replace my trustee with surplus and wellspring.
I loved your aside on the ttk thing, because I got a Trustee after so long without it, and I was having a good time with it. Sure the thing has sliiightly less zoom at 1.9x but it hardly matters. I just pepper them from afar and have some fun. I hope to get a good one of these to complete my favorite archetype's set (I miss Randy's)
First part of the video is very important. Ppl tend to look at how good a weapon is based on how well a super skilled streamer is using it but they don't think about ease of use. We're not all Wallah or Panduh or CoolGuy out here
Got outlaw and killclip with a stability masterwork and accurized rounds. Used it in trials on javelin. Got multiple team wipes. This thing is so good.
Couldn't agree more. I run Explosive Rounds Vulpecula and a High-Cal, Surplus, KC Survivor's Epitaph and they serve me very well. With the Vulpecula, lots of people break off the engagement because they can't shoot back.
I’ve been focusing on Range on this weapon when I should’ve focused on the right balance between Stability and Handling. I also didn’t know Arrowhead Brake and Counter Balance can double up to make this weapon a beast.
I remember i used to use the blue rapid fire scout when i was grinding for randy’s throwing knife. The archetype just feels so good, i preferred it over all the other scouts i had, even though it was a friggin’ blue.
It honestly just feels so smoothe. It has just enough damage so that mixed with the rate of fire it feels ridiculously oppressive. Like when I peak in a lane with this, I 8/10 times land 2 headshots minimum before they dive back behind cover or I do. That’s 90+ Damage in a pretty quick burst, and it has the magazine size and rolls for reload to support bobbing in and out of cover and being pretty much a turret, and DONT even get me started on my No Distractions/Kill Clip roll…
Contingency Plan is such a sleeper weapon. It is Amazing! Im loving using it. It reloads so fast without any reload perks I didnt believe it at first and its a laser beam with little to no recoil
Loved this in trials a few weeks ago. Still dropping legendary shards and gunsmith mats trying to get a God roll. Have a decent kill clip roll and am always a voidlock. Start with empowering rift to get the 4 crit ttk and then kill clip from there if you can get the first kill...
Always loved the veist scout archetype since vanilla, and I'm so glad this weapon came out. Got what I think is a god roll with fluted, steady rounds, tunnel vision, and kill clip when the weapon was first dropping and I've used it to stomp in trials. I was surprised to see it not be respected as such a good weapon, it was praised by many but never saw it in game except for me using it. Glad this video really highlighted its strengths, I wasn't even aware of what made it so good except for me loving how it felt.
I can't tell you how much I love your content. I've got one of these with Tunnel Vision/Kill Clip and it's so nasty at snagging those headshots. My one critique of your content though is your mic technique. Your plosives are harsh.
@@bennygerow it is a mic placement thing. Likely he's got his mic directly in front of him and is talking pretty close to it, depending on the pop filter to do all the work. He's just gotta get rid of the filter and off-angle the mic and he's good to go.
My favorite roll I have is chambered compensator, flared magwell, firmly planted, elemental capacitor. I run stasis so EC gives me increase strafe and increased recoil direction. It is very good recoil direction at 83, really good stability at 82(plus what firmly planted gives when crouched) and EC helps me slow strafe while crouching from firmly planted. It is laser beam and it is amazing!!!
Preach it Coolguy!!! This fact that 100% of people never never hit their TTK 100% of the time. This is why I love rapid fire and lightweight scout rifles. Rapid fires are way more forgiving then lightweights but still the range benefits they both have give you a TTK that will always be better then nearly every other weopon if you are playing at it's optimal range. Rapidfires melt people past 40 meters and they feel so damn strong at those ranges, and how forgiving they are is just crazy. Now lightweights are much less forgiving in how many crit shot you have to land but what I think makes them amazing is their base Aim Assist stat. Lightweights normally have the highest AA and with the buff they gave to scout AA a few seasons back make landing those crits with lightweights so easy. Mida is absurdly strong because of this, Mida has 100 aim assist and got the max benefit from that buff. Mida gives me so many crits that I never earned and I giggle every time. People tell me all the time that scouts are garbage you're only hurting yourself, but hell I took Mida and Novawarp to the lighthouse last weekend. People just think their bad cause they think the maps are to small but the truth is all but maybe 2 maps have plenty of lanes where you can leverage +35 meters, and these scout flinch people so much if I get the first hit on a sniper 9 out of 10 times that sniper either misses and retreats or just stands there trying to fight the flinch and I kill them. Hell even those super smaller maps have a couple of good lanes you can hold down. People always say one type of primary is META and another one is Trash but right now I feel primary weapons have been the most balanced across all types then this game has ever seen.
I whipped out the ol' Bygones High Cal, Kill clip, Outlaw a few days ago. It's still a great time in regular crucible when the light level does not matter.
I wish I never deleted my full auto, KC roll. Like every stat underneath damage was almost the same length bar, and they were some very long bars! The thing just had very good base stats, and the right rolls just felt so good!
I love my Fluted barrel, Steady rounds, Surplus, Elemental capacitor, Handling Masterwork. Super high handling and stability with good reload from Surplus. It only really feels sticky enough to be useful when on controller though.
This just reminds me of Randy's, I put a lot of kills on that gun and miss it. I actually used black scorpion to get mine and I've always said this is a great dueling scout
Just got this a few weeks ago. Arrowhead/Tac Mag/Firmly Planted/Kill Clip with a Range master work. I didn't think it would work for me, but the thing is an absolute laser, very user friendly, that caught me as much surprised as the many I have fallen with it. Great gun that really has gotten lost amongst the current meta, and I'm cool with that. It's also taught me to slide and crouch a great deal more which my game play needed anyway. Pairing it with Travelers Chosen, Heart of Inmost Light, and top tree Striker for some really fun and relaxed style play.
Seeing all these scouts starting to come into meta makes me really miss my tango 45, I used to go off with that gun, never really found my right feel in pvp again since year 1/after it was sunset
CONT PLAN IS S GOD TIER i really wish they wouldve just reissued Black Scorpion though... that and valakadyn were my gotos EDIT : my cont plan roll is AHB/TM/NoD/F with Reload MW
a Chambered Compensator/Steady Rounds/Surplus/Kill Clip/Handling MW Contingency Plan was my literal first gun this season after running up to Banshee, very nice gun. Surplus is fantastic, the 260s really want extra stability and handling/reload are their weakpoints, but with 3x surplus its 98 stability/82 handling/82 reload on my roll
I love scouts, Jade Rabbit on Eternity baby, some of my favorite games right there. Got a Tunnel Vision/ KC roll that is out of control. Highly recommend.
My first ever game with my Firmly Planted / Kill Clip roll on my Warlock was a We Ran + Ghost In The Night game. It was amazing. Then I also have a Tunnel Vision / Kill Clip roll where I got 50 score, 9.0 Efficiency game with it in ANOMALY of all of the maps. Now I have a No Distractions / Kill Clip one for my Hunter, and I’m just waiting for a chance to use this 🤩
I got one of these with no distractions, elemental capacitor and a stability MW. As a spectral blades main I love this thing, the stability on void is super nice Would’ve been nice to get firmly planted though, much more synergy with spectral
I really urge people to try a "No Distractions" roll on Contingency Plan, because it's almost always helping you. Experiencing flinch at medium and high range is crucial. It's not the difference between a headshot and body, it's the difference of hitting your shot and missing. Mitigating that flinch is important with longer range duelers! Surplus is obviously going to be a good one, but it lacks consistency for me because I use my grenade and barricade frequently when using longer range weapons. Because of this, I'm constantly messing with how Surplus makes my weapon feel, giving it what feels like a lack of consistency.
Thank you for making this! I stomped last weekend in trials with Servant Leader, and I was planning on running trials this weekend with the Contingency Plan. No surplus, unfortunately, but I've got a firmly planted/kill clip roll I am very excited to try
Coolguy makes a great point about the ttk and meta and I had a discussion with a friend about Messenger with kill clip and desperado, he just think kill clip is trash because it doesn't change ttk BUT it gives you the ease of use where you do not need to hit all crits to 2 burst. Ease of use is incredible when you are under pressure or in a tight spot against one or more opponents A lot of people will go for the most meta weapons that need al crits to win but they cannot hit all the crits and lose a lot because of that (my friend included).
Smallbore, accurized, surplus and kill clip with stability masterwork. It's bloody amazing, been pairing it with Witherhoard and rocking every game of control and survival I've played. I loved Randy's but this might have topped it for me, especially since I can use it with said Witherhoard.
@@gravity-arbor It is! Only thing you can't do much is aggressive pushing in short ranges but in those situations it's just a matter of knowing how to defend yourself. A Witherhoard pool in a tunnel will secure a 1v3 easily when all 3 rush in with a shotty. In really bad situations all you can do is shoot it at the floor and melee, hoping that they miss and die before you. That's the biggest weakness.
I'm really hoping for a arrowhead brake/accurized rounds/Surplus/elemental capacitor/Stability masterwork roll. Add a counterbalance mod and it's the epitome of "Consistency is King"
Speaking of sneaky low optimal/high practical ttk weapons, lightweight and aggressive sidearms both have 3 head/2 body optimal ttks, and aggressives have a 6 shot body ttk. They sacrifice range for either insane optimal ttks (lightweights hit 0.67, still 3 head 2 body, and whenever bungie finally makes full auto an option instead of a perk on them, well...), or incredible bodyshot ttks (aggressives have a 0.83 bodyshot ttk. They're super high recoil, but that's a damn nice tool with either a damage buff or some external source of damage.)
I've got a firmly planted kill clip roll as well. Took it into last banner and had a good time. I remember Randy's throwing knife giving me a hard time back when it was active.
Neat I love my all for one, outlaw, accurized rounds and even my thresh, subsistence.but that’s all that have dropped for my at this point. It feels damn good
6:50...I was thinking about Bygones and forgiveness in TTK just as you said it. Bygones was another pulse rifle baby of mine - Corkscrew rifling, High Callibre rounds, OutLaw and Kill Clip. I loved it. Over 2700 kills with it. Kill Clip on this thing was a beast But then pairing Kill Clip with either a High Energy Fire buff, my Titan Sunbreaker Sunspot buff or (God forbid) a Weapns of Light buff... it was absolutely disgusting
I just went flawless (first time) in the freelance queue with this as my primary. Full Bore, Accurized Rounds, Surplus, Kill Clip, Stability masterwork. Love it
Hahaha! I LOVED what you said in that "competitive environment" bit. That was so spot on. I have hated that mentality of that community with a passion since the beginning of the first game. There's nothing worse than being in a party with someone that thinks that way. They take the game as serious as someone in an MLG finals match or something. I'm a try hard (not a very good one), but I don't lose my mind if I die or lose a match. That's exactly why I came back to this game this season after not playing for 2 years. I was losing my mind playing Warzone and needed something casual that didn't make me want to yeet my setup out the window.
Hearing you bring up Bygones makes me miss my arrowhead/high-cal with outlaw and kill clip roll. So good. That gun helped to get me my Redrix Broadsword.
I love this scout!! Had a no distractions / kill clip with over 200 kills before I got a surplus / kill clip. Love them both. Glad someone is finally recognizing this weapon.
Tip: if you're focusing Umbral engrams to try and get this, focus them from Season of the Splicer, not the current season. This season's Worldly Weapons will cost you 5 legendary shards, but Splicer's ones are completely free. And they drop this season's weapons. Not sure why they added a cost for this season but there you are.
I made a video a few months back on why I prefer 390rpm pulses even though they have higher optimal TTK. Because the overwhelming majority of the time is not going to be optimal for most people. I like the archetypes that have solid average TTK. These scouts being similar. With 390 pulses I know 99% of the time three trigger pulls will get a kill. These scouts play similarly. I always used bygones until it was sunset. Now I use a medium zoom rampage last perdition. Can aim at the waist at 47 meters and it lands crits before it starts to fall off.
I'm just happy to hear someone finally pushing the narrative with me that people really, *really* got to stop looking at everything in a vacuum in this game when it comes to TTK and etc, because it so rarely is in actuality. People shoot out of range all the damn time, be it shotgun cleanup attempts, handcannons, what have you. Throw in chip damage from grenades, teamshots, and everything else that is the chaos of Destiny Crucible and it's one of the big reasons why I push Resilience being a much more valuable stat than what people give it credit it for. We all plan and seek for those clean 1v1 pure primary gunfights, but that's not what Destiny is a majority of the time. Contingency Plan is a fantastic example of why an optimal loadout is sometimes a consistent one, rather than one that just has high potential. Things can shift drastically from battle to battle and your plan should be how consistent you can be between the ebbs and flows of the Crucible.
Yoooo CoolGuy!! I just got my first ever We Ran with Contingency today... Surplus Kill Clip. Was awesome. Thank you for doing all the ground work on stuff like this!!!
Rapid fire autos like Chroma Rush are great for having forgiving ttks while still having good optimal ttks too! I like the argument you make here, very few people are hitting 3 headshots with a 140 every fight, and having a forgiving ttk helps a ton, I think that's one of the reasons a rapid fire pulse also feels good, you don't have to stress about hitting only headshots
Got one yesterday with Arrowhead, Accurized, Outlaw and Frenzy. I could not put it down. It was so stable and just plain fun to use. Masterworked it within a few minutes of using it.
Great video, and loved the point about people getting too hyper focused on optimal TTK, versus what is realistic once other gameplay factors are added in.
I used to use a similar weapon in year 3, the Black Scorpion-4SR. It did not have as much aim assist but the roll I had was an Arrowhead Brake, Tactical Mag, Zen Moment and Rampage roll. With a counterbalance mod on it had 100 recoil which made it an absolute laser beam.

I managed to get one with firmly planted / kill clip as well. It is so good. Especially with middle tree night stalker. The combo of crouching for firmly planted and getting wall hacks with flawless execution is S tier
Rip flawless execution
We all miss Randy's brother. Don't be scared to pull it out in 6's man, sunsetting doesn't hurt that
First part of the video is very important.
I picked up a tunnel vision kill clip roll recently and it is DEADLY
Also, man I miss bygones!
Got those perks on my also. It's brutal!
I regularly run bygones in 6’s. It still slaps.
@@27hell I think I deleted mine.. I remember running it and queenbreakers invading in gambit back in forsaken. Was so gross. 😆
The perspective on this video encompasses such a solid topic. I'm so glad to hear someone else talk about TTK from this vantage point.
Have that exact same kill clip roll and I'm really enjoying it. The full auto really let's me focus on my strafing and at range its nasty
the mindset of "I just need to miss less than you" is why I run 180rpm HCs. Explosive Payload Vulpecula is the king of "I don't miss but you do"
Tell that to Lorentz Driver
@@DJNerfStudios what do you think is in my energy slot homie
You bring good points regarding TTK and ease of hitting TTK and how forgiving some guns are. I just wish more PVP maps had some longer lanes.
You made me look at my inventory and I found a kill clip/no distractions one. Let the experiment begin.
I've been using since i got my no distractions kill clip roll
got one w arrrowhead, light mag, no distractions & kill clip with a stability MW, feeling it so far!
This has been my go-to for a while now, surplus + elemental capacitor is kinda nuts, still waiting for that killclip roll to drop though
I used my surplus killclip roll last week on Bannerfall. It got me the flawless.
I can't tell you how much I love your content. I've got one of these with Tunnel Vision/Kill Clip and it's so nasty at snagging those headshots.
My one critique of your content though is your mic technique. Your plosives are harsh.
Is that noticable with headphones on? I have only noticed it occasionally myself, and I figured it was mic placement or something technical.
I mean, this is essentially Black Scorpion, and we grinded out Randy’s with it
I did it with Jade Rabbit/MIDA Multi Tool when scouts were the Momentum Control meta
Black scorpion and 7-6-5 were always low key bad ass scouts
He’s super right. I regularly use this thing in trials, the only thing that can mess with me at all in my optimal range is a messenger
man you just gotta love some cool guy....He preaches to all skill level
I used to really love these scouts when I was on console. Since moving to MnK I suck with them lol. I need to practice
Man, I love these videos. I won’t play destiny for a week but then you’ll show me something amazing and make the game fun for me again.
I’ve loved these rapid fire scouts since D2 came out, I’ve got a outlaw/kill Clip one that I like using
I whipped out the ol' Bygones High Cal, Kill clip, Outlaw a few days ago. It's still a great time in regular crucible when the light level does not matter.
I wish I never deleted my full auto, KC roll. Like every stat underneath damage was almost the same length bar, and they were some very long bars! The thing just had very good base stats, and the right rolls just felt so good!
Encountered this a lot in Bannerfall, could not counter it with a DMT at all cuz they always got the first shot off
I love my Fluted barrel, Steady rounds, Surplus, Elemental capacitor, Handling Masterwork. Super high handling and stability with good reload from Surplus. It only really feels sticky enough to be useful when on controller though.
Sticky? As in aim assist related friction? You're not getting that with any weapon unless you are using a controller.
@@AKSBSU Yeah I know, I’m saying that weapons tend not to ghost as hard on controller, especially with this weapon.
Now there's a name I have not heard in a long time.
Yo. That was the only scout rifle with high caliber rounds plus dragon fly. Just perfect for the hug-butt meta back in year 1.
I mean you can still use it outside of Trials and Iron Banner.
@@bennygerow a long time...
@@pluto3194 I still do sometimes, but banner and trials are the only things that give me meaningful loot as far as pvp goes at this point
I've got hammer forged, accurized, outlaw, kill clip and reload MW. Been using it for months. It's great
CONT PLAN IS S GOD TIER
i really wish they wouldve just reissued Black Scorpion though... that and valakadyn were my gotos
EDIT : my cont plan roll is AHB/TM/NoD/F with Reload MW
I have a roll very similar to yours only I have SB and KC
Edit: Oh and a Handling MW
My first roll of this weapon was a surplus kill clip roll with steady rounds small bore and a range masterwork.
Absolutely love this thing.
Thanks for gettin nerdy with it fella...side note i have that firmly planted kill clip roll and it's NASTY....also...LET'S GO BRANDON 👏👏👏👏👏

a Chambered Compensator/Steady Rounds/Surplus/Kill Clip/Handling MW Contingency Plan was my literal first gun this season after running up to Banshee, very nice gun. Surplus is fantastic, the 260s really want extra stability and handling/reload are their weakpoints, but with 3x surplus its 98 stability/82 handling/82 reload on my roll
Preach that gospel! 🙌🏾
So happy that I kept my firmly planted kc roll sitting in the vault till now
Im happy I kept the one I got, Tunnel Vision and Kill Clip feel amazing on it
I love scouts, Jade Rabbit on Eternity baby, some of my favorite games right there.
Now I have a No Distractions / Kill Clip one for my Hunter, and I’m just waiting for a chance to use this 🤩
Love at 3:08 when the lag perfectly delayed your burn explosion for that next guy to come round the corner
So glad to see my favorite weapon back in the game.
I got one of these with no distractions, elemental capacitor and a stability MW. As a spectral blades main I love this thing, the stability on void is super nice
Would’ve been nice to get firmly planted though, much more synergy with spectral
I love this frame. Black scorpion was one of my favorites back in the day. I have one with surplus and elemental capacitor, it's just so consistent.
Thank you for making this! I stomped last weekend in trials with Servant Leader, and I was planning on running trials this weekend with the Contingency Plan. No surplus, unfortunately, but I've got a firmly planted/kill clip roll I am very excited to try
I don’t like Servant as much because it’s scope ring pops in and out when shooting ADS. it distracts me.
@@gravity-arbor Fair enough. I didn't pick up on that but it's something that usually bothers me. Time to never use servant leader again in my life
@@coopercurtis8502 try Contingency Plan as alternative. It’s great :)
Coolguy makes a great point about the ttk and meta and I had a discussion with a friend about Messenger with kill clip and desperado, he just think kill clip is trash because it doesn't change ttk BUT it gives you the ease of use where you do not need to hit all crits to 2 burst.
Ease of use is incredible when you are under pressure or in a tight spot against one or more opponents
A lot of people will go for the most meta weapons that need al crits to win but they cannot hit all the crits and lose a lot because of that (my friend included).
I had to watch this twice so I could FULLY understand this video in its entirety. Your content is S tier my dude, it has its worth in gold.
Smallbore, accurized, surplus and kill clip with stability masterwork. It's bloody amazing, been pairing it with Witherhoard and rocking every game of control and survival I've played. I loved Randy's but this might have topped it for me, especially since I can use it with said Witherhoard.
That’s such a good combo.
So glad you mentioned Bygones. Legitimately my favorite weapon from Forsaken. God, I just want her back.
I'm really hoping for a arrowhead brake/accurized rounds/Surplus/elemental capacitor/Stability masterwork roll. Add a counterbalance mod and it's the epitome of "Consistency is King"
Just got an arrowhead break, steady rounds, firmly planted, kill clip, Range masterwork love it
You said Bygones and I immediately remembered my Trust and Bygones…goddamnit I miss those guns…
I remember Randy's throwing knife giving me a hard time back when it was active.
great video! I was really hoping no one would find out about this scout lol
Good weapon for practicing strafing. You will know when your doing it right or wrong
My favourite Scout Rifle.
I've got one with Subsistence/One For All and another with Surplus/Frenzy.
Beautiful discussion points made here bro. This is basically why I love my Stars In Shadow...(also has a range MW).
8:19.
By far, one of the best things I’ve ever heard you say. Omg. Bravo, my dude. 🙌💚
Hearing you bring up Bygones makes me miss my arrowhead/high-cal with outlaw and kill clip roll. So good. That gun helped to get me my Redrix Broadsword.
Just landed a HammerForged/Smallbore with Accurized round, Firmly Planted, Kill Clip roll with a range MW. I'm quite happy
It’s not like I’m a gargoyle statue at the back of midtown! 😂😂😂😂 best quote of 2021!❤️❤️
Been glued to my character since I got it for pve, and it’s a great time in pvp.
