Good video! It's nice to see a Navigator out in some real wind and waves. She seems to handle it quite well, wet but in control. Most videos on youtube show the small boats in ponds or lakes in very calm conditions, where any thing can float in safety. Unfortunately it doesn't tell us anything about the quality of boat or what it is capable of. Just a kind of a see my boat and me videos and little else. Your video was an exception! It's a pleasure to see how capable a open boat can be with a good crew under real ocean conditions. I have a new respect for the Navigator design, Thanks, well done.
Thanks for the comments Karl, we have had to adapt our sailing style to the prominent weather here, I would prefer 15knots steady and warm water in a tropical paradise, but we either have no wind or plenty.. The Navigator is a brilliant small ship, instills more confidence in it's seaworthiness than perhaps I should take advantage of ! It can be a wet ride but it's a really good boat, especially for our location. We often go out when the keelboats stay in harbour..
Ok so if this was in only 15kts of summer breeze, this is an eye opener. Warm water, warm air….. Warm summer air has nowhere near the density of cold winter air. Looks to be only about 1m swell as well. So this this light air should be a breeze to sail in with this amount of ballast in the boat. Shocked at how wet it is. Designers always hype up their designs, moreover the ability of the boats to handle a broad range of conditions. This is the first and only video I’ve seen of a JW design actually in the ocean and not sailing around some protected little pond. So it clearly doesn’t live up to the hype. Thanks for uploading this video.
Hi Mr. Nepau, we did measure a top speed of 10,2knots that day, but the boat will do a sustained average speed of around 5knots if you reef early, maybe run at 6-7 or even 8knots if you have enough crew weight in the boat, like we did that day. If sailing solo you have to reef earlier, so your power goes down and 5-6knots seems the best speed to sustain on a longer sail. But she also runs happily at 5-6knots in 10knots of breeze, which is much easier on the boat.
Inspiring video!! I would love to sail the iconic Navigator for myself. If you ever want to part with her, I would love to stand in line to buy her from you?
achim barthelmes Apologies for the late reply. This is not my boat. It belongs to a friend of mine who invited me along for a sail. He says sail area is about 13 square meters in total

Thanks for the comment. I will pass the compliment on to the skipper and owner of the boat.

Gostei da trilha sonora Brasileira. Marisa monte é uma grande artista!

Hmm they are hammering along though. It probably wouldn't be so wet if they weren't in such a hurry to windward.
It's a 15ft boat sailing in open ocean, and doing just fine. Get over yourself.
Lekker guys. Nothing like a pomping South Easter in False Bay. 🇿🇦🇿🇦
Wow, now that's what I call sailing!
I was waiting for the "camera man" to smile. Waiting and waiting and waiting......
He was smiling inside…😊
Naigating a so small boat in shary water ... Don t know if it s a good idea ;)
Fair winds !
"Prince Henry the Navigator" could do no better.
Muito legal. 🎶🇧🇷 Parabéns
Go Steve... You the MAN.
Great video! What speeds can the boat reach in these conditions ?

She does not belong to me, she belongs to the skipper and i think he would rather die than part with her
@@jtolken Thank you for the reply. I do not blame the skipper :) , she's a beauty! Thanks again for posting such a great video.
My pleasure
Nice boat and video. How fast was it going?
Ken Brown 10.2 knots downwind surfing off a wave top speed
I’ll take a bimini about now. 🤣
