I had a '79 RX7 when I lived in Japan during the late '80s. It had a rotary engine that I never had a problem with. I freaking loved that car. It was a "no frills" base model that was unmodified but was still pretty quick.
The 12a was a great engine. Everything after that was crap.
I have a 12a and this engine is so strong i cant beleive it 😅
I have an S4 FC and it has a fresh street port 13b. Most fun car I've ever owned. Plus I love pissing off my neighbors at 7am. The rebuilds are just a fact of life of owning a rotory. It's like a timing belt change service, or a head gasket Job on a EJ. You hate it yet love it.
Japan in the late 80s, early 90s. Would love to be there.

My uncle had an FD that he loved dearly and he gave me a passion for them. I’ve yet to afford one, but he has told me I should ever get one because of this very reason. 😅
This was my first time ever seeing an FD RX7 at an auction! But this one was so bizarre. The random rattle can paint and covered up VIN's were huge red flags to me. But curious to hear what you guys think 🤔

The double valve stem is an old racing thing, so you could check the pressure while filling the tire up with air.
@@griffins750 Do you know if that second valve is a factory or DIY install?
The 2 valve stems next to each other are so you can check tire pressure while filling up. Some wheels have 2 stems 180 degrees apart so you can fill the tire with pure nitrogen, which is a bit more stable than just air. You bleed one while filling the other.
That makes sense, thanks!
Finding and restoring a car like that is actually one of my biggest dreams, and yeah, this face just gets me every single time.
All nto3 wheels come with 2 Valve stems, its a racing focused wheel so you can fill air and simultaneously have a pressure gauge to check air pressure.
Thanks, was wondering what that was for
And double the trouble
Cool man knew someone in comments would know 👍
And helps seating stretched tyres with twice as much air going in
One couldve originally been intended for an afrermarket pressure sensor...
Worst case scenario, sell all the good interior parts and stuff, and use the bare chassis as a track car or something.

This blew up. Gotta keep in mind im not even old enough to drive and not even close
Not sure about that with it being wrapped and sprayed so much. Those rust like hell, it may be completely trashed underneath all that wrap and paint.
@@TomekHar I was saying that a rx7 would be amazing
@@lexx_rl Yeah, RX7s are cool but really problematic.
@@TomekHar true
Just do what any normal person would do and get a 1 or 2jz in it.
In Japan it is very common for sellers to just spray paint over rust on cars they know are likely going overseas. From the pictures you cannot see the hidden faults and the car condition rating system doesn't help that much anymore. So its always worth it to get a TRUSTED import company to inspect the car before buying.
Door sills dont rust on fds. It has a euro plate number on the window.. And its only spray painted where its not wrapped. also they dont spray paint over rust in japan. they fill over it because rust on the outside of the car 99% of the time comes from body damage. If the outside of the car is rusting the underside is gone.. And if you were curious about the enkei NT03's double valve stem its because of this, “a racing twin valve design which allows for accurate monitoring while adjusting pressure.”
I've seen a car like that i was interested in buying
It's really not that bad of condition. If the right person were to redo it. It could be beautiful ❤️❤️

Having a Mazda, all I can say is that they make happy, fun cars. The RX7 must be my favourite.
Would love to bring this back to life
A quick paint job is always there to cover up something they dont want you to see.
That’s probably true a lot of the time but sometimes it’s just a guy who wants a new color and has a spare weekend.
I did that to my first car, not to hide anything but I wanted it matte black for some reason.
They wanted to cover up all that original silver because they stole it off the shipping truck. I would know I’m the owner.
My all time favourite car. There is one parked at a mechanic I always see on my way to work. Dont know if it runs or not. But it puts a snile on my face everytime I see it.
Lucky. Id love to see an rx7 everyday, even if not mine 😅, its also my all time favorite car
Buy it
In the early 2000s my buddy Nathen owned a RX7 it was fast as Fok! I owned a 3000Gt Vr4. The RX7 was faster but the AWD would help put the power down… his car exploded one day on our way to Myrtle Beach. He sold it for parts…maybe got $2500 for it. I sold my Mitsubishi. And bought a 1989 Porsche 951 (944 turbo) still have that baby! Still runs flawlessly
This was my uncles favorite car, in black and red! This hss to be 25-30 years back ... 👍
Bro that's the dream right there. A clean interior RX-7 FD. Take the wrap off and and give it some love and you've got a great show car or track car

I’ve got Enkeis on my Subaru, two valve stems is typical on those rims. They allow air to be released from one stem while nitrogen is introduced into the tire from the other stem.
Nice FD find!
Why do you need nitrogen in your car tires. It’s not a airplane
@@ichbinb0b83nitrogen is lighter and used in many places instead of air
@@ichbinb0b83 imagine being a car guy and not knowing about nitrogen 😂😂
@@izyanafzallol youre gonna save. 0.01 ounces of weight. Nitrogen doesnt change psi as much when the temp changes, thats why it's used in cars
Still seems odd having 2 valves. If you want a nitrogen filled tyre then just fill it with nitrogen not sure why that requires 2 valves.
Those 13b triple rotors and the twin rotors are fkn mad man engine's.. very little time and money means 12,000rpm and 500hp with RWD they are so cool and powerful and fairly rare here in Australia..
I had a 1991 turbo, and it was super reliable. One of the best cars I ever had! ✌️

Always wanted a Right Hand Steer car. Wouldn't care what vehicle as long as it was RHS
Engine looks so clean
I just love that pop up headlights on the car 🤩😍🥰
It's totally worth buying it as it has no major damage or fault 😁
I will always say it: rotaries (at least the FD ones) are as reliable as any engine as long as you take care of them. And they need more care than other engines, which most people didn't do
my FC was reliable as well. i got 200k from the first engine in it. it had 245k when and idiot pulled out in front of me and i T-boned him.
FDs came out of the factory with troubles. My FD needed new catalytic converters at 20k miles. Would have cost me $3000 in 1994 money if it wasn’t a recall item. You also need to zip tie every vacuum hose (like 50 of them) b4 they pop off. Then u need a turbo timer bc these cars run extremely hot.
Everything after the 12a engine was garbage. V8 swap it with anything but an ls and enjoy
@@TheMajictech the 13b is amazing and I will defend it until I die. The renesis sucked though
@@FaeraOthronus say what you will, I once was a certified Mazda technician I know what cars cost the owners tons of money and the engines still die a sad pathetic death, well maintained or not, the rotary in general is a lemon especially after the 12a. Turbo charging them makes it die faster.
An old friend of mine had an affection for this car. He just loves the power they had and how they drove. Unreliable for sure, but fun when it was running great.
The way you said the rim name has me dead
That RX-7 looks like something that I would drive. A God Tier car indeed.I will also say that the 90's were the times when JDM was at the peak.

It will still go for an "unaffordable" price anyway, no matter how sketchy it is.
Which is why you find good agent in JP for these transactions.
People are gonna be shady, never buy something sight unseen :P
Rotary is solid just need to maintain it properly 💯
And buy more gas
I went through 4 rotary engines in 40 years. 3 would have sufficed if I hadn't abused my first.

It's a rhd FD..... everything can be fixed and just pull that rotary out and swap in either a 5.0 or a K24. Bam you now have a reliable rhd FD. This is honestly a dream find.

Perfect for a LS swap 😎😎
throw in a manual transmission while you're at it
Nah, turbo hayabussy swap it! The LS is too heavy so it messes up the balance and weight ratio
You are what's wrong with the world
@@Makaya9shey buddy you never looked up the wait between a aluminum ls&a stock rotary with twin turbos on it did you? The only thing messes up is sitting too far in front of the axle which destroys the 50/50 weight distribution which is the whole point of these cars. Putting an adolescent one of these is like you might as well just pushed in the fucking lake
@@DelicaWorks😂 at least when an ls blows up you can go scrounge another from your local jalopy jungle, guess that’s why you suggested replacing a piece of shit with a more common one?
Every car has its purpose, where some see only trash, others see a dream to be fulfilled.
Dual value stems. You can see tire pressure with one as you fill the tire with the other
The double valve stems is for track use so you can measure tire pressure with an acurate gauge while filling at the same time
Thats genuine gold
Dual valve stem system, one for gauge and one for air. Can measure precisely and faster while filling/deflating. Track and autocross wheel.
For those wondering the reason enkeis have 2 valve stems is for fine tuning the psi while rallying or at the track that way you can attach a gauge to 1 then the air compressor to the other
I'd buy that for sure. An FD RX-7 and an RX-8. I'd love it
I love the looks of those old cars! I really want one
Dream car just sitting there 😮💨
Rx7 was my first car when I turned 16...birthday present. I loved that car, but I got 5 tickets for speeding and 1 for racing and my dad took it away after 6 months. I'm an insurance agent now and can only imagine how expensive my car insurance was with my driving record
Two valve stems is for adding nitrogen ones in input the other is bleeder to let all the air get pushed out and completely filled with nitrogen. When you open a valve stem and let all the air out just because there’s no more pressure in there doesn’t mean there isn’t still some air left inside.
The two valve stems are because back in the day race teams (mostly in Japan) would have a tube inside their regular tires and run nitrogen or helium inside the tube to have consistent air pressure.
It turned out to be a bad idea but the two valve stems because a sort of fashion trend and so it stuck around. its mainly used to fill and check tire pressure at the same time. Again before we got machines that did both readily available.
I have a set of NT03+m's that look almost identical to those.
They like to catch on fire 🔥
Run 🏃♀️ run fast
According to my dad, his first car was a Mazda RX7 but I don't know what year he had. Long story short, he joined the military and he left it to my grandma and she tore his car up by the time he came back. I'm talking, no oil changes, smoking inside the car, etc. This year, I bought my first car, 2021 Mazda cx-30 and kept the tradition but man, I wish I got to see his Mazda or at least a picture of it.
There are things you can do to shore up a rotary. Rob Dahm has a great video explaining the problems and solutions.
Takahashi Kyosuke approves
U mean keisuke takahashi???
Nvrm
People who like rotary already accept the bad side😂...cuz we love it unconditionally
The scratched off vin number is giving theft vibes 😂
Dream project car for sure. Would love to have one. Doesn't matter wat year I just want an rx7
I think the dual valvestem is so you can run nitrogen in the tires for track days. Helps reduce change in tire pressure with temperature change.
Had a 84 gsl-se for 13years loved it. If you have the money great little car
I actually went to japan to get mine. So i got to see it before they did anything to it. I always recommended just buying a ticket and going to japan to browse in person. Saved me alot of worry and you get a little vacation in japan
WOW!!! That Would Be A Great Project Car!!!💯💯💯🤘🤘
Super dope . definitely will be a collector's car
“On top of that It has these inkeys 💅🏼”
I wish i could get a van, with a engine that I can use hand tools to completely gut, and rebuild, by using guides online. But every time i look into a price its so far removed from a earthly idea that it stays a dream.
I’ve got an FC and the engine isn’t too bad. The reputation mostly comes from the fact that they’re built to withstand their own original boost, but any extra and you have problems. And the majority of people modify their RX-7. I’ve kept mine how I got it (stock except for a stainless steel exhaust) and it runs fine, drives like a dream, and it’s a vert so it’s great for a summer’s day and has those awesome looking BBS factory wheels.
It has eurobeat music aura around it
It’s a beautiful car as long as you can take the trash from under the hood and toss in a different engine
I love these . They're just gorgeous 😍
Bro usually i dont care abt rx7 but those wheels make me like that one
The two valves is to flush the tire. When you fill it with nitrogen you can purge it by opening the other valve and letting any normal air out. Those Enkeis (if not knock offs) are a pretty penny
I’d say cop it bro
Looks like it’s got some serious potential
My first car was an 84 Rx7. I miss that car
If the price is right. Go for it.

Those rotary engines in FDs are fine. A friend has one he uses as a daily driver, 180,000kms later no problems.
