    Clouds of all types, moving water...ocean, rivers, lakes with reflections, portraits and flowers are those scenes that inspire me to want to learn to paint them. Great video. Thanks much. ❣️

    what a great excersize. I think some beginners forget that these types of practices really help with learning how to control the paint and brush and in the end helps with their other painting. Instead they just go straight to wanting to paint perfectly. I also paint the gradual shift of color similar to you. You ask what inspires me, I would say just generally wanting to get better! Instagram is great as well as TH-cam but if you don't have the desire then nothing will happen.

      Documented Journey Beginners and also advanced forget (; And yes - I agree about the desire to succeed. An interesting point (:

    I think that is a really important exercise to practice. One trick I was taught, in order to prevent the blooming, is to rotate your work so that you're working 'top down', with your board slightly raised, so that gravity helps you to control the flow of water and pigment. An alternative is to make sure your brush is just a little drier each time - so even as you are adding water to dilute the mix, you remove some of the excess wetness from the brush tip before making the next stroke.

      Peter Sobocki Excellent advice!
      By the way, tilting the paper can help with tricky wet-in-wet washes too. I'll soon share a painting where I could have done that to improve the result. (:

    Thank you for this lesson. It’s been so long since I have painted. This lesson is helping me remember blending techniques.
    My inspiration is the beach. 🏖. I love the colors and textures of the seaside.

      So happy this inspired you ^_^
      We are lucky to have many beautiful beaches around here.
      My favorites are ports and boats (which I should do more of).

    I find Peter Sheeler's videos to be inspiring. At the same time, they are rather soothing, as well.
    If you mean what inspired me to pursue art, that's a bit harder to answer since I have been drawing and painting since early in my life. I drew in wet dirt with a stick and filled in shapes with small pebbles. I drew with chalk or charcoal on the sidewalks; back then it was okay to do so. When I was playing around with acrylic paints, I drew flowers on my tennis shoes and along the cuffs of my jeans. I made a hat out of old denim jeans and drew flowers on it.
    I think it is my imagination that inspires me the most.

      Donna G This is very interesting to hear (:
      To me, I remember back wen I was 5-6, how Dr. Seuss's books inspired me to draw his characters. It was really all about fun back then.
      And Peter Sheeler is amazing, I learned so much from him and his channel. Such a straight forward approach that works (:

    i love these exercise vids! what inspires me is colors first and nature second. i am the only one in my family to even like art so as a kid i was lucky to get pencils (not sure what inspired me back then - i just HAD to draw) so not having color for so many years to work with once i did i fell in love with all colors (just not so much the warm ones lol). today all i have to do is look at a color and i am thinking "now what can i use that color for" :D thanks for the awesome vid. have a great weekend!

      Crystaline Dreams That's an amazing story - thank you for sharing! ^_^ Color is indeed amazing, for me it's watercolor specifically. I was fortunate in that my father has a natural talent for drawing, although he never did it professionally.

    In this video you mentioned brush strokes that are useful in a painting so the piece doesn’t look overworked. Have you done a video on that?
    Thanks, Liron. So helpful! 🎨

      I'm happy I could help ^_^
      I didn't do an exact video on that (but I will put it on my to-do list).
      But I did create 2 relevant videos:
      1. Minimum brush-strokes exercise - th-cam.com/video/ZpNf6B7uxCU/w-d-xo.html
      2. Make every brush stroke count - th-cam.com/video/nWpF5GQOeFk/w-d-xo.html
      I hope these help for now 😉And thank you! 🙏🏼

    Always so good to be reminded "Go back to basics!" I live very far inland with no river lake or sea nearby, so for me , the sea has always been my inspiration. Just love all nature.
    Recently I discovered Alphonso Dunn who does extremely useful videos teaching drawing, and he has been the 'spur' that re-awakened my interest in drawing and painting. And then I discovered you !

    Awesome video! I’m brand new to watercolor, and just discovered your channel! I’m sure your videos will be of great benefit to me as I learn all the fascinating techniques and skills that come with being a watercolor artist! First things first tho...I have ordered a book on color theory, and am still awaiting its arrival...but in the meantime, I will watch all your videos regarding good practice exercises, and set a schedule for myself.
    I want to get a decent starter set of brushes as well...so far I have a round #12, a rigger (not sure of size), a 1 inch flat, and a 10/0 in decent brushes...plus a few not so good brushes. Can you please tell me which sizes and types I should start out with? I’m thinking maybe a #3 or #4 round as well?
    Thank you! ✌️

    • @LironYan
      @LironYan  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you and welcome aboard 🙏🏼😊
      Sounds like a great start.
      I'm very minimalistic with brushes. I tend to use a size 10-12, and a smaller one at 6-8. And I mostly use round brushes, and barely any flats (though I have a few).
      If you think you'll also have use for a smaller one, getting a 4 could perhaps be a good idea (I think 3 is too small).
      I hope this helps!

      Liron Yanconsky thanks for the welcome, and for your reply re the brushes! I will take your advice and get something larger than a 3. I may even go to an 8. I’d love to get a mop brush like you bought in Paris as well (I think it was Paris 😊) , but they are way out of my price range.
      I received my Color Theory book today, but I didn’t realize when I ordered it that it is geared toward oil and acrylic painting. I realize that color is color, but I think I will find another book that is solely geared toward watercolor. I think it will make it easier for me to understand, as I am brand new. 😊 ✌️.

      Yes - a watercolour-specific one may be better.
      However I would suggest you try it out beforehand - maybe the information will be what you need (:

    Hi, Liron, can you tell me what kind of paper you use for this exercise? I tried using Canson and Fabriano cold press and I'm having a real difficult time blending. Thanks.

    • @LironYan
      @LironYan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! I believe this was Arches cold press.
      I've been having a hard time with Fabriano too at times, it's a real hit or miss unfortunately (:
      I can attest that Saunders Waterford is just as good as Arches, if not better.
      And Baohong from my limited experience is pretty good too!

    Do you have anything to say about how different colors behave when doing this exercise. Like Pyrrol Scarlett for example. It almost always produce perfect results, even when fading to another color. But Ultramarine for example is very difficult to go evenly from full strength to light or to fade it evenly to another color.

    Interesting exercise! What if you make a clean water ball first and then do what you did? I don´t know...

    • @LironYan
      @LironYan  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ove Rotstedt You could do that, and it would be a good exercise in wet-in-wet (:
      Most of the time I find that I actually need the blending skills more than wet-in-wet, but it's probably due to my personal choice and style.
