Hey, you guys didn't review the lands!!!! I need to know if they're good! You didn't get all of them! Thanks guys so much, now I can go to the launch party ready to rock, no reading for me. You guys are very funny and are great people. Its been a great week, best of luck to all of you. Long live TMS
In the sealed pre-release for this format, i got 2 somberwald druids and an avacyn. I went 3 and 1. That "1" was the only one with the sense to annhilate the druids when they hit the board. everyone else simply wept quietly and signed the score sheet after i cast avacyn for next to no mana.
so, you were able to keep it off of premium by having adds all throughout the show? not complaining, just noticed that it had several ads now, instead of just the one at the beggining.
I like the proposed miracle. Is it good? Definitely. Is it broken? Doubtful. The only issue I could see is running it in red, looting it to the grave, and then using Nox to put it on top for free red ramp, but even that is a lot of investment for one land drop.
Yes but as the creature enters the battlefield again you can re-pair it with Deadeye Navigator. And as soon as you blink the navigator itself you can pair it with which ever creature you like!
Brad's rampant growth miracle card is actually a good idea. its not like the land would come in untapped, and it is a one for one. its just like playing a birds of paradise, although not vulnerable to removal it is pretty bad if its in your opener or not the first card you draw of the turn.
The problem with the green Rampant Growth Miracle is: 1 - A Miracle cost of 0 means it can pretty much go in any deck as any deck can play it. 2 - Miracles are meant to be big, amazing 'miracles'. Rampant Growth effects doesn't work as flavour. I think a Dramatic Entrance variant would've been a sweet Miracle. The low cost of the Miracle would be offset by you having a creature in your hand when you draw it, plus lots of Soulbond fun.
Fun thing i did with Craterhoof Behemoth today: EDH game with Yeva as a general on the field, flashed in soul of the harvest and another dude at his EOT, brought in a bunch of low cost creatures, passed turn, next turn bring in more creatures, and drew Craterhoof off of Soul of the Harvest, brought it in and pumped everyone for +12/+12 and hit my opponent for 184 points of damage.
Soulbond (You may pair this creature with another unpaired creature when either enters the battlefield. They remain paired for as long as you control both of them.)
I think Champion of Lambholt can make a Sword of Body and Mind really good. Every you deal damage to a player with it, you put a Wolf out, making him bigger, making less creatures be able to block.
Wild Defiance is a fantastic Enchantment. It makes most creatures practically burn spell proof. If the burn spell does less then 3 damage, it is entirely ineffective.
Ok... I agree that a 1 drop 1/1 with soulbond that gives +1/+1 would be awesome, but can you say TWO wild nacatls in play fully pumped on turn 2 IN ANY MANA BASE THAT RUNS GREEN????
Also I'm not quite sure whether a creature can use two pair effects even if it remains paired with only one creature(if you have one soulbond creature in play and then you play another I suppose you cannot pair the two of them together). "You may pair this creature with another unpaired creature when either enters the battlefield. They remain paired for as long as you control both of them."
Accoutrements: 1. An accessory item of equipment or dress. Often used in the plural. 2. Military equipment other than uniforms and weapons. Often used in the plural. 3. accouterments or accoutrements Outward forms of recognition; trappings Now I want golf clap for googling!
The little girl is the best thing about Descendant's Path. Why? Because *she* is the descendant! It's the whole Family Tree thing, and I think the art is just awesome!
accoutrementsplural of ac·cou·tre·ment (Noun) Noun: Additional items of dress or equipment, carried or worn by a person or used for a particular activity. A soldier's outfit other than weapons and garments.
would wild defiance give +3/+3 for every creature you put a token on with blessings of nature? would give 4 creatures +4/+4 for 1 mana if you got it on the draw....
I suppose you are right. Of the 11 Miracles, 2 (Banishing Stroke and Vanishment) are small, vanilla effects (so not 'many'; only two) so I suppose a third wouldn't be a big deal. But I would think in Legacy, with cards like Brainstorm, you'd get it fine without needing any green sources (but then, maybe you wouldn't need the ramp in such a deck).
Brian Nelson talks about Somberwald Sage in Frites. Eight months later, he uses it in a Frites / Craterhoof deck. Coincidence or evil mastermind conspiracy?
Primal Surge could of easily been a miracle card for 3GG. I do like the idea of the Rampant Growth. Its really good but I don't think it would be anywhere near broken.
I had the most awesome pulls yesterday in a booster box.. the first two packs i opened was first: Gisela and second, entreat the angels.. even got two cavern of souls ONE FOIL! xD
There is no way they would make a rampant growth with miracle cost 0. Imagine this scenario in Standard (brought to you by Magical Christmas Land): Turn 1, draw miracle rampant, fetch Plains, drop Forest into Pilgrim. Turn 2, drop Cavern of Souls naming Human and casting an un-counterable Hero of Bladehold. Turn 3, drop Plains, cast Silverblade Paladin with COS then Honor of the Pure, swing for 14. Any questions?
I liked the whole thing but then I saw the credits and got confused. I could've sworn I watched the red card review the other day... Also, let Brad make more appearances :)
35:40 Brad Nelson doesn't like a 10/10 creature because it costs 7 mana, but he loves a 7/7 Griselbrand that costs 8. He said several times in this set review that he wants a card to have an impact as soon as it enters play, and Gisela does that in spades. Griselbrand however, you're not going to use his draw ability when he comes in, because you're paying 7 life for cards you won't cast til next turn, since you just spent 8 mana casting him.
G/B aggro can play more fatties with the repository. Lightning Mauler gives a superb alternate 2-drop to Strangleroot Geist, and gives a larger threat. Turn 2's get a lot better, turn 3 repository and 4 and beyond is dropping a ton of fatties by filling the repository with Thatchter's Revolt: this also combos well with Champion of Lambholt alongside Gisela or a turn 5-6 Craterhoof Behemoth? GG guys
Grounded has a cool flavor connection to Scrapskin Drake. In fact, a lot of bad cards are there for flavor reasons. Cards like Defensive Stance from New Phyrexia, for example, represent the story (Mirrans are almost wiped out and are fighting for their lives, so they WILL use a crappy -1/+1 enchantment for U just to survive an extra day). I don't necessarily agree with this kind of card development, but it makes *some* sense.
There is no point of time in between bonding the 2 creatures and then the 2 creatures becoming unpaired because you dont control both of them during which you can activate the navigator's ability
30:46 Brad Nelson: 5/5 for 5 is insane (5/5 that is a 3/3 on opponent's turn) 32:10 5 mana is a lot of mana (4/4 that is more likely an 8/8 and turns other 4/4s into 8/8) So 5 mana for a 5/5 is insane, but 5 mana for an 8/8 is bad ?
Not only would you not need to ramp in those decks as you said, but do you honestly think that those decks would waste time trying to brainstorm a rampant growth on top of their library to get a miracle the next turn. Even in a perfect world where you draw a brainstorm for every rampant growth that ends up in your and that you can't miracle, that still wouldn't be good. I think the point I am making here is that it would only go in green decks and would not be overpowered in them.
On the topic of the "rampant growth" miracle card. No, its not broken. Considering the powerful effects of most of the other miracle cards, the one proposed is just fine.
This has been a fantastic week. Really great shows.
you guys are awesome and funny together. please when making future set reviews just have you 2.
brad's shoulder is the power and toughness for most of these cards
Thanks allot for the warning-less Game of Thrones spoiler. There goes all the time I spent reading. Fantastic.
I love the set reviews that you guys do; thanks for them. Noob question though: what is a cube?
Opening week I played Primal Surge in my sealed deck. It actually worked out every time I drew the card.
I got Sigarda and Restoration Angel in my two first. I love this set.
Hey, you guys didn't review the lands!!!! I need to know if they're good! You didn't get all of them! Thanks guys so much, now I can go to the launch party ready to rock, no reading for me. Brad Nelson is the definition of a guy I just wanna sit down and have a beer with.
my favorite part of the set in every expansion.... greeeeen :D
Amazing video like always!!!!

i love the interaction between Evan and Brad. So much better than Gerry and ... that other guy... "You can't forget the Titan Forge"
One thing that I found at the prerelease. Blessings of Nature seemed to be a lot more valuable when I cast it for 5 than when I miracle'd it
You two are great.
so, you were able to keep it off of premium by having adds all throughout the show? not complaining, just noticed that it had several ads now, instead of just the one at the beggining.
Best intro of all time
"Bear, go fight for me". Heck yeah, that definitely would be awesome.
I like the proposed miracle. Is it good? Definitely. Is it broken? Doubtful. The only issue I could see is running it in red, looting it to the grave, and then using Nox to put it on top for free red ramp, but even that is a lot of investment for one land drop.

I want to go there for the holidays
Am i the only one who saw abundant growth and instantly though "omg this card is insane!"?

alchemist refuge in bant. have you seen that? its so useful
Soulbond (You may pair this creature with another unpaired creature when either enters the battlefield. They remain paired for as long as you control both of them.)

Descendant's Path is the best art of the set and maybe the best of Terese Nielsen. I wish it got printed in the old layout, would be mind blowing.
I absolutely agree with Evan on the miracle rampant growth debate

That does sound kinda sweet. Time to start brewing.
Flying, angels, and everything nice.
That is a god-like combination. xD So funny. Kitchen table decks love such combos.
The equipment gets stuck in the web, not eaten by the spiders. That's what I gather.
these guys are awesome togeather! The other two guys from the DA review were so boring
Ravnica was so mutch fun!!!
Hey Evan, what do you mean when you say "Johnny"?
They need to make a real Magical Christmas Land Parade, God that would be so awesooome xD
accoutrementsplural of ac·cou·tre·ment (Noun)

I didnt understand. What is the card he is splashing green for?
The Miracle for Zero rampant growth sounds sick. I think Green would be playable in standard again if the did that.
Sounds like an interesting RUG deck idea.

Don't worry, Evan. I live in MCL with you, my dear mayor!
Primal Surge could of easily been a miracle card for 3GG. I do like the idea of the Rampant Growth. Its really good but I don't think it would be anywhere near broken.

Love the fact the credits are from the red set review and no basic land comments :(
hahaha nice do u have the pre release version of moonsilver spear
@mrorangeguy wasn't this moved to premium on SCG???
about the sweetest thing in the history of time
Wild Defiance U/G Infect with Blighted Agents, Glistener Elfs, Artful Dodge, Mutagenic Growth, Titanic Growth, Livewire Lash, maybe Mirran Metal, Ichorclaw Myr, Ponder, one of the green miracle pump spells, and Swiftfoot Boots
what is the piano piece at the end?
Damn im so gonna make a deck with Primal Surge now!!! gonna make it work no matter what
wolfir silverheart is insane in limited it almost always wins you the game!
I was surprised they didn't make a soulbond llanowar elf. Would have given genesis wave decks a chance maybe.
There is no way they would make a rampant growth with miracle cost 0. i got so lucky with this set :p got avacyn and tibalt in the first 2 boosters i ever got from this set.
For the Discussion during Revenge of the Hunted. How about an explosive vegetation for 1 green.
Also the rampant growth for 0 is not broken. It's essentially drawing an evolving wilds that doesn't tap it, which is fair as a rare. No problem.
I sure do wish I could see the creature's power and toughness.
Spear is going right into my puresteel deck ^_^
I liked the whole thing but then I saw the credits and got confused. I could've sworn I watched the red card review the other day...
Also, let Brad make more appearances :)
As long as the land comes into play tapped, it's fine.
i love how he reacts that way to a 5 mana dude,
the best cards in standard are roughly that big right now
somberwald sage helped me turn four craterhoof. why is not popular!?
Conely Woods has a summer home in Magical Christmas Land!
I think I'm in Magical Christmas land a lot
especially when he talked about Fight Bear and Alchemists Refuge
I've got my soda and I've got my bucket.
Let's do this.
The first one he was talking about limited, and with Silverheart he was talking about standard/constructed.
I love Green!
why dosnent someone do wolffier siverheart soul boud with pathbreaker wurm? that sounds prety good
No problem, I've had days like that before. :)
No one can defeat the Two-headed Giant that is Brad and Evan
The Rampant Growth, aka Miracle Grow actually sounds like a good card. At least in my little world.
How does 2 Druid Familiar's get 6/6? Wouldn't it be 4/4?
wolfir silverheart is awesome ;p ! Soul bind with Elgaud Shieldmate!
G/B aggro can play more fatties with the repository. Lightning Mauler gives a superb alternate 2-drop to Strangleroot Geist, and gives a larger threat. GG guys
probably with all the removal out right now, I take out somberwald every time I see it :3

I don't necessarily agree with this kind of card development, but it makes *some* sense.
Brad is the Magical Christmas Grinch
You didn't talk about the basic lands like you promised. How will I know what basic lands are in magic now if you don't tell me?
There is no point of time in between bonding the 2 creatures and then the 2 creatures becoming unpaired because you dont control both of them during which you can activate the navigator's ability
you can do only one target if you want
Decendents path + any changeling= WIN
pause at 18:51 best picture ever
Blessing of Nature + Slumbering dragon... Potential turn 3 8/8 flyer.
Yeah, but seeing as you can get 6 in on T3, then just need any card that targets your dude to do another 4 the next turn, why wait that long?
i like his idea it isn't broken its almost op but so are so many other cards
30:46 Brad Nelson: 5/5 for 5 is insane (5/5 that is a 3/3 on opponent's turn)
32:10 5 mana is a lot of mana (4/4 that is more likely an 8/8 and turns other 4/4s into 8/8)
So 5 mana for a 5/5 is insane, but 5 mana for an 8/8 is bad ?
I like miracle zero rampant growth. I think it's fair enough.
Not only would you not need to ramp in those decks as you said, but do you honestly think that those decks would waste time trying to brainstorm a rampant growth on top of their library to get a miracle the next turn.
