@@t3dotgg Maybe use Maccy first. Raycast clipboard manager is feature rich but maccy just feels faster, assuming from the video that you too are going for 1 or 2 keystrokes per action.
I love using it to convert units, like "15" to cm". Or converting currency like "1usd to aud". Or converting a datetime into another timezone like, "Jan 9, 2025 10:00am pst to Sydney". It's pretty insane the things you can convert to/from.
If you want to convert more web related stuff: rem, px, pt, hex, hex (with opacity), rgb, rgba, hsl and hsla and the shows closest Tailwind CSS color you can use Web Convert plugin for raycast
PSA: It can tell how many days since a certain date or till a certain date. Or hours or minutes for that matter. Play around with it and you'll be surprised how useful it can be.
A lot of this feels like Alfred to me but it also feels like Alfred has slowed down development and this might be the next tool of choice... Guess I need to try it out.
The irony is that on MacOS, I miss my window management tools from Linux. I would totally set MacOS up with my most used workflow keybinds *if I could.*

@ True, I’m not unaware of the compromises. I’ve been using Amethyst for a while which has some quirks, but I definitely prefer it over Yabai. for people on windows, flow luncher is the closest equivalent to raycast, it has so many plugins, including the calculator one edit: i know raycast for win is coming soon, but flow luncher was there for years, its more stable and it's already have a good plugin ecosystem

Yeah and the plugins are so nice. There is one that, if you input a color, it shows conversions to rgb, hex, hsl and even the nearest tailwind color. It’s called Web Convert
I hate subscription apps and that's why I use Alfred. In my opinion with the custom workflow management and community Alfred workflows it's definitely a better choice if you hate subscription apps

Just the other day I was looking for a solution to bring focus to an app via a shortcut, and couldn't find a good one as everyone was talking about setting up some complex window manager which is waaaaay to overkill for what I needed. Also - I was surprised you didn't mention the clipboard history extension Thank you, Theo! Been watching your videos for a while now, and I always find something new and useful out of them.
Raycast is genuinely so genius. It takes me a while to try new things on Mac that don’t seem "native". And raycast, it just feels like it belongs on my computer.
I like the raycast calculator for simple calculations, but for anything more complex I use Magic Number, which lets me quickly enter and edit formulas visually. It can also be bound to a hotkey and toggled easily.
The top feature for me is adding shortcuts for apps, for example option + c can launch vscode if it's not running, or it will focus it if it's already running. Together with cmd + ~ to switch between instances made my workflow really simple and really fast.
I've been using the hotkeys of raycast for 4/5 months now, and it has changed the way i work, you can even create a specific window layout and map it to a hotkey for example, so option+2 opens my editor, and option+ctrl+2 open my editor resized with the ios simulator on the side. I save minutes of work everyday just thank to that feature.
For those who are wondering in windows the spotlight equivalent is called Powertoy ( called Power Run) from Microsoft, after installing, can launch with alt + space
Thank you! I'm sold on Raycast. I can't remember which version of OSX it was that broke the utility I was using for app-switching hotkeys, but it was such an incredible convenience.

I like some of their paid features, but never use the AI stuff. Still , because of the AI the paid tier is way too expensive. They need something in-between that unlocks the paid stuff but not AI and is more affordable.
So the windows version, power toys run, is actually older than raycast. But both of these didn't invent the concepts. I think that may have been Wox. I remember using it on Windows a long time ago but not really being happy with it. Power toys run does the same stuff but to a much better extent than it did. I can't say if it does all the features shown in this video. I know it does the calculator thing I know it does the app launching, but I've never looked to see if I can do shortcuts or copy SVGs to my clipboard or emojis, because I wouldn't use any of that functionality
I moved to raycast, but I missed being able to directly Google, like in Alfred and I missed the file search, like in Alfred. So after a few months I switched back. I really like raycast but some tiny things keep me from moving to it.
Wow I’ve seen solutions for this kind of setup but they were much more difficult. Might give this one a try. Also you may fly cut for clipboard manager since you use your clipboard so much. Is that bash script for hiding the top bar available somewhere? Thanks a lot Theo! Nice insights, gave me some ideas what I can do more with raycast. I really love tools, try to build many my own for my daily work. :)
Raycast seems cool but I already use BTT (Better Touch Tool) and it does everything I need. (BTT is not a spotlight replacement) Hotkeys for specific apps or only when multiple monitors are connected and automatically doing stuff when something happens is all pretty easy with it. Use karabiner elements to remap it so when it's pressed it's caps lock and when it's held it's Ctrl. I've remapped mine to esc when pressed and Ctrl when held.

I wish there was a way to add custom actions to things in Raycast, even if you have to make an extension for it. So, stupid example, but allow me to make a way to find a photo on the file system, press Cmd+K, and type `wallpaper` and there be an option that was added to set that image as the wallpaper.

Fantastic video, Theo! I'm excited to add some of this to my repertoire ... including that menu-hiding script if you'd be kind enough to share it, please! (I dabble in Cities Skylines, and it doesn't calculate the pointer's location properly if the menu bar is showing.)

I do not want my usage stats + whatever going to some company that I'm not affiliated with. We've so normalized the behavior that it barely registers anymore.
5:24 ooh what have you been cooking in FL Studio theo
Fantastic video, Theo! I'm excited to add some of this to my repertoire ... including that menu-hiding script if you'd be kind enough to share it, please! (I dabble in Cities Skylines, and it doesn't calculate the pointer's location properly if the menu bar is showing.)
You're still not taking full advantage of Raycast; it's incredibly robust!
I know! I already learned so much more since recording this
I have to admit Theo you do love first class tickets for the hype train…
I made a New Year's resolution to use my keyboard instead of my mouse (where reasonable) and this is gonna be a game changer for me. Thanks!
(Also, wth is Mac's emoji picker so slow?! I thought I was the only one with that problem.)
