Steven White yeah, because the winner of Ultra-Trail du Mont Blanc uses polls every year.... go away Steven. We have evolved without you.
There are about 3 trail runs where I use poles (the Rut being one of them), but most trails in the US aren't steep/technical enough to warrant poles, so most people don't get used to them.
Great race, with the best runner of the world, but what kind of finish is this??? How it's possible to find a collective of people who like running across the mountains with a natural environment, but winning a helmet or a medals made with animals parts??? It's the worst trophy that i've never seen in all my life!!!! I calle it painful
+Kavik Nisha running these races is NEVER about the trophy or the medal. It goes FAR beyond the materialistic things Ultra running is a community. A place to experience the so-called un-doable and come out on top. To see just how far you really can push the limits and boundaries. Its friendships made with the same kind of people that just get it. These are my thoughts at least and I've run quite a few of these now as well as multi-day adventure races. Sometimes, there's no one even at the finish line giving high fives.
Err the name of the race is "The Rut" because the Elk are starting the rut for the season. People in Montana hunt......everybody from the Dr. to the plumber to the dental hygienist and your CPA......thus the bugle to start the race and the (deer) antlers as trophies along with a piece of elk hide. We revere the Elk, there is no tougher stronger, smarter or more tasty animal. If you are offended great but don't impose your views on others.
Medal???? You better run Chicago Marathon or any other boring road race... Ultra and trail runners don't care about medals, instagram, and likes on FB :D
These kind of people are by far the most annoying people in Western Montana.
