I did check the motor is left hand rotation staring at the flywheel going to work fine I went back and watched a couple more videos of when I was trying to get it going and the rotation is the same as my motor running now .
I have heard that a 671 can run both ways, I thought it was a myth until I read the comments. Very interesting power unit, and a 671 let's EVERYONE know it's running! Cool video
Detroit diesel automotive engines have a variable speed governor. You can get by with that, but to hold a constant speed all the time, you need the governor used on a tractor or a power unit.
Definitely, first I thought I had the wrong motor then I went back and found another video just a few minutes ago and it rolls over the correct way. I should be all right unless the transmission makes it spin in the direction of a tractor PTO. Thanks for stopping by
Thanks Walter, how's the weather been your way supposed to be about 85 here tomorrow. I'm heading to Lake Michigan in the morning. There's a little lake called Duck Lake right next to Lake Michigan with a little 2 to 4-foot deep Channel for the kids to play on In between the two Lakes. I'm gonna try to do a little fishing if I don't get stuck putting worms on hooks that seems to be my job on the fishing trips lately. Thanks for stopping
@@sawmillingGarry Hi Gary, We left home on Friday for camp. Only 135 miles from home, but only 12 miles from the Border Crossing! We intend on being here until Columbus Day weekend. Good luck with your fishing trip. The boys need to learn to bate their own hooks, ha ha! Weather here today was 60 degrees & cloudy with a shower late afternoon. Tomorrow the same. The black fly’s are here.
With the exhaust manifold being on the right and blower on the left doesn't that mean it's a right hand rotation on that engine? All of my Detroit power units for the sawmills, slab chipper and planers run with a left hand rotation power unit that has exhaust manifold on the left side, opposite of the blower and opposite of the side where the starter bolts on. Ill look at the 671 in my lumber truck tomorrow to confirm but I believe the truck motor will be right hand rotation. Also you can run the truck style governor but you'll have a lot more constant blade speed with the hydraulic govoner.
@@sawmillingGarry yes it would require a reverse rotation gearbox mounted behind transmission, use a large flat belt drive and cross belt half a turn to reverse the rotation or mount engine to the back of the trackway with a driveshaft running under and linked to the mandrel with a v-pulley belt setup. It's possible you can still use it through the transmission in reverse but I'm not sure what the tail shaft speed would be and if you would need to change the speed to suit your desired mandrel speed
@@sawmillingGarry how can I get in touch with you directly, do you have email where we can swap numbers because I can probably help you with finding a solution

Have you touched base with Mark Galicic? I don’t know if it’s the same engine but he definitely runs a Detroit.
👍👍👍😎☕

Thanks, and thanks for stopping
John from Frick an jeep would know about, Detroit, on a saw mill,
No he doesn't already asked him. Thanks for watching
Nice viedo, great coments! Learned a lot! Thanks

Yeah, I found a 2021 Cummings 24 valve for cheap. Turning into a power unit. Hoping that work. Good luck. I enjoy your channel.
Looking good Gary!!

So with the right hand rotation I won't be able to use it correct it'll spin my Blade the wrong direction?
Well I just went back and watched an old video. I think you're right so that means that's not even going to work for me. ☹
