I played the SE version and I was impressed with the neck, tuning stability and quality fretwork. I feel like I would change the pickups if I owned one but otherwise it was solid. Btw appreciate your positive vibes. Rock on!
I have a Strat and a SE SS. I play some slide. The SS is a fine instrument, great tone, easy to play. My strat has a flatter neck radius and a very slightly wider nut so that's what gets played. It's a personal choice. That's really the only thing that I have a problem with on the SE SS, other than that it's a great guitar for the money. Necks on S guitars are modular, so maybe someday there will be more choices. The guitar you pick up is the one you play. For now that's my Strat.
Amen. For me, the name on the headstock means very little. It's all the feel. Tone is a factor, but feel is a bigger factor. If it feels right, I can usually get the tone I want. (Thanks to eq)
Borrowed a friend’s. Scarf joint where the neck joins the headstock feels weird having no heel, also felt like it was shorter scale (when it isn’t!). Nice format, good luck, subbed from the UK.
Neck is really the most important thing. Thanks for the vid… my take- Tone, i can eq pedal a pickup to something i can tolerate but necks…especially strat necks that really work for me…very rare. I play acoustic fingerstyle 95% of the time and play electric with my fingers so my take on tone is irrelevant to normal people but necks…PRS and gibson tend to nail it every time for me..fender strats rarely do. I even replaced a fender strat neck with with a chinese amazon neck just because i generally prefer them and can mod them without caring Never played a tele neck i didnt love, never played a strat neck i liked more than a little
Just started the video - I have a SS (SE) and a Fender Strat (player 1). I MUCH prefer the tuners on my SS over the Strat. To me they feel great and their size makes it easy to fine tune. I also LOVE the headstock of the SS and am surprised when people don't like it. Also, the SS neck is awesome! For me, I plan to sell my Strat and keep the SS.
Awesome! 😎 I don't take issue with them on the SE at all. With a guitar as good as the SS SE on the market, it doesn't make sense to go for the core model with so little difference.
I find guitars a very personal affair. No two of the same model feel the same and some just feel or sound right and others don't. I tried a bunch of high end strat guitars and was pretty sure I was going to walk away that day with a Fender custom shop of some description, but it was the Silver Sky that just did it for me. The neck feels like it was made for my hands. I even shred on it as it feels so good.
Couldn't agree more! I have played many guitars that people had and raved about. They felt just "eh" to me. I think everyone needs to play as many as they can.
I have a white core model with a flame neck. I'm absolutely obsessed. I'm surprised I don't mind the plastic parts. I figured I would end up swapping them, but I haven't felt the need. I think the reasoning behind it is weight saving.
So true about the B string. I'm constantly fussing with it and never satisfied. On all my guitars. You explained tempering perfectly. I found this explanation of why the B string is so troublesome: The B string in perfect harmony with the G string: B string sounds too low compared to other strings The B string tuned to 247 Hertz: B string sounds too high compared to the G string.
It's so easy to fit a new string to a strat that I find the g,b and top e strings on a 3 tuners a side headstock a total pain. So for that reason alone I would always go with any good strat with a standard strat headstock over a PRS. Other than that, I build Strats to my own specs with premium parts for a lot less money than a Silver Sky.
Bought a new Core Silver Sky maple about a month ago. Traded a Custom Shop '56 Reissue Strat to help fund it. No regrets, didn't ever really love the 10/56 V on the Fender, the neck on the Silver Sky is great though. Tonally it replaces the '56 fine, for chimey cleans and mild breakup. Same kind of meh feeling on some of the plastic bits, but otherwise, a top-shelf player.
Yeah man! I've been playing it a bunch while I have it. Plays great! I like the way it plays better than my strat. Do you struggle with tuning stability?
@@GoodTonesandCoffee no tuning issues so far, but I don't use the trem much. My other PRS guitars stay in tune great, including the trem ones, so if I were ASSuming, I'd expect it to be pretty stable. I do use a bit of Tune-It nut lube on all my guitars, and that may be a mitigating factor.
This guitar is a strat copy, what a shocker! Lol, can't fix that splay past the nut the 3v3 tuner setup has though. I'll take a straight string pull real Stratocaster, by Fender, for that reason, of the two.
lol Everything that matters he loved(neck feel, sound, weight, playability) everything that doesn't(tone nobs, tuning keys, locking tuner placement) he disliked.... Good review ✅ I guess
For years other manufacturers made strat style guitars and nobody gave a shit. PRS comes along and makes a better (although not perfect) strat than Fender and the Fender guys are triggered AF! LOL
It certainly caused some waves. I'm not brand loyal to any guitar manufacturer. Nobody is paying me to play their guitars 😅 not sure why PRS gets the collective hate that they do.
PRS is renowned for their quality even down to the SE line This isn't the first time that they made a Strat-inspired guitar, but I got the sense that people felt PRS is a well-established brand in its own right and should not have to "resort" to copying Fender.
@@93greenstrat Man I love PRS stuff and their guts with innovation having the uphill battle. I hope I didn't mislead people, but I am a PRS fan. I'm not super brand loyal to any 1 brand. No one pays me to be their spokesman. I just love a guitar that feels good and inspires.
Enjoyed your video as you're a much better than average speaker...congratulations on that. My thoughts -vs- this presentation. Numerous time you stated the video wasn't a comparison to the Strat...but you have a Strat right next to you and many times over you referred to it comparing to the PRS you were holding...so a comparison of sorts in the end. You mentioned not liking the plastics on the PRS over and over. You do know the Strat has plastic too...right? In the same places other than the knobs on the tuners. Kinda surprised you didn't compare and mention the pickguard and truss rod cover. Can you confirm the PRS has a lesser quality plastic than the Fender? I gonna say 'no'. But to me they offer no difference to the Fender in feel and performance.. My thoughts are Mr PR Smith is making changes to the use of products when it comes to the tuners. I kind of like the fact you don't see finger prints on those tuner knobs. So Mayer and PRS set out to make a better Strat...I believe they did just that and after years of being on the market with great sale results it is hards to argue they didn't. I own the Core and SE...the SE is well worth the investment. These models will be part of the PRS line for decades...
I appreciate the feedback 👍 my point with the feel of that particular plastic was the price point. Playing the core and now playing the SE, my money goes to the SE IF I had to pick just one. Just pointing out observations as I'd happily play and own either.

Totally agree. My whole background is totally acoustic. So Tele necks won me over from the beginning.

I like them on the SE guitar. Again, the only reason I say anything about it is because of the price point of the guitar.
I like the idea of concealing the string ends in the tuner. I've never tried that.
It really helps not to gouge someone if you accidentally bump them with the headstock.

It is just an SM57 pointed at the cab. I need to work on it. I agree that it does sound thin.
It's odd that they put such cheap knobs on this guitar when one of the nicest things about their classic line is the cool clear resin knobs.
Exactly. And it's not that I don't like them, it's the fact that it's so tacky on a guitar at that price point.
