I’ve got Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition under the tree for me. Never owned a Wii back in the day, so it’ll be my first play through. From what I’ve read, I’m in for a treat
I just got me copies of both Metroid: Dread & Ori 2, one of each for myself & an extra copy of each for my brother as well. I got Persona 5 Strikers and Ni No Kuni 1 & 2 for PS4 but I also want to get those games for Switch as well. I really hope that the recent rumors of a possible Persona 5 port for Switch turn out to be true. I know that you've been clamoring for a Switch version of Persona 5 Wood, hopefully it's finally gonna happen in 2022.
Good call on the gift card idea. Whenever someone says they don't know what to get me, I just always say that you can't go wrong with a gift card. I have all the platforms too so it's even easier for them and more convenient for me since even if there isn't a specific game I want right now, I can add the funds to my account and keep it in case I'm short for a new game or if there's a sale where I can get a whole bunch of indie games.
@@Kaieatsrats sometimes i prefer gift cards. When people just give me money it usually ends up paying for fuel or food or someithing rather than a gift for myself like the person was intending, so it makes sure that i actually do treat myself to a new game or something
@@idiottqueen5845 Same. I usually feel bad spending actual on money on anything non-essential. At least with a gift card you know it's for a specific purpose and you don't have to feel bad using it since you can't exchange it anyway.
Yes, you can't go wrong. On Console, I'll get as many games as possible physicaly, but most Indies are digital only, which I enjoy quite a lot. There will be some use for the Gift Cards on some Sale for sure.
A game I personally recommend is Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove, which is basically a perfect retro-styled game for people who want to play retro games but not have to deal with the issues older games have with four fully playable campaigns, a multiplayer mode and amiibo support, which is a good incentive to buy the 3-Pack that can sometimes be seen in stores.
I would 100% recommended Hollow Knight to anyone. It’s only $15, you get hours of great gameplay, great music, and the characters are all interesting. The only draw back is for a more casual gamer they may find it challenging but if it’s on someone list, buy it.
I think this tradition is so cool, these buying guides are such a nice way of just summing up the year of releases. It's a shame that it always comes out just a bit too late for Black Friday so my family has already done most of our Christmas shopping
I love these so much, I was watching old ones the other day just to see if I’d missed anything good in recent years. It’s a nice balance of opinion and objectivity and I’m sure it’s helped many people get gifts they’ll enjoy ☺️

I wonder if I should get it for the Switch instead of PC, then. My son has been asking for ages but I've been waiting for it to come down, and now I have a Switch
@@amazingpurplegirl0903 If he takes the Switch on the go, then yes, I would get it on the Switch. It is a difficult game though, just so he knows that it won't be an easy one to beat. I am still only on the second world because there's a dragon boss that is super hard.
@@ganthc I'll ask him which he'd rather play on. We don't go anywhere particularly, so he plays at home hand-held. We both watched it on TH-cam (I watched Markiplier, I think he watched DanTDM), so he knows it's not easy

But if he does most of his gaming on the computer, then just buy that version. I bought Cuphead for my nephew on the Switch and he loves it. Gives him something to do (he doesn't have that many games) when has only an hour or so to play.
I recommend Rune Factory 4, it's an RPG/farming game with a good story and a lot of in-depth characters that have a lot of dialogue and events/festivals (it's 30€ for the physical copy) I think is worth the price
I’m definitely not a grandma looking to buy something for their grandkids but this is seriously such a good video idea to target and help people on that situation.

This year I just realized something, why does BeatEmUps Christmas Buying Guide take place literally just a couple days after all the Black Friday Week Sales and Cyber Monday sales have just ended? Good video BeatEmUps and continue the tradition!! :) Although next year, can you make the video just as the Black Friday Week Sales are starting instead?
I agree. It sorta defeats the whole purpose of the video in a sense. For all the good games he mentions, they could have been bought for a lower price a couple of weeks back.
Heads up, buy Overcooked All You Can Eat as opposed to the Overcooked double pack. It remasters the first game, includes the second game, and comes with all the DLC for both games plus a free DLC expansion that isn't in any of the other games.
I’m always hyped for these every year. Always a great summary of games that came out this year for the switch. Bless your soul my guy for giving us this masterpiece of a series.
My own personal recommendation is definitely the Great Ace Attorney Chronicles! Getting two amazing games. Great music, really nice art, the story is really compelling... it's just great!
Not sure if it was mentioned, but I'd HIGHLY recommend hollow knight for the 10-20 dollar range. For the low price and stupidly high quality, its one of the best deals Ive ever seen. Only thing I can say is the pacing is a bit slow to start off, and it can be a bit challenging for casual players.
@@IWILLNEVERDIE885 to 100% it's brutally difficult. I bought my first Nintendo Switch recently, and apparently, I'm on the right track when it comes to picking games. The first 3 physical games I bought so far are Burnout Paradise, Risk of Rain 2, and Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection. I came close to buying the GTA Definitive Collection, but thankfully, I dodged that bullet and went with Burnout Paradise. Everything else I've gotten have been Switch Store purchases, including Guilty Gear XX R, Doom 3, and the 2016 Doom. I'm glad that there are more good games out there that fit my budget 👍🏽
GameStop’s early Black Friday buy 2 get 1 free was the time to take advantage on Switch games. Plus a lot of them were on sale for $26 when their usual price was $59
Wife got me a Switch OLED, Brilliant Diamond, both assassin's creed games, monopoly for us, Hades, and KOTOR. Feels good. Edit: Risk of Rain 2 looks so good
I getting a switch for me and my kids and I appreciate this video so much. I know now I definitely need a SD cards. I am liking and subscribed. Looking forward to a new year of gaming.
Personally I enjoy the GTA Definitive editions. I always thought these games looks goofy it's just that now they have much more comfortable controls. And if I experience bugs it's just more fun for me.
not for christmas, but i did purchase mario odyssy for my bf, i personally love it but i dont think its his thing, got him assassins creed the rebel collection and he loved that. he just got a switch lite and had never really played games before but hes really loving AC as well as rogue on there
As always great content. I managed to get outer worlds for 15 dollars last year and I would say that its not worth buying if it's over 25 dollars. BUT as a fan of fallout and although its not as good as fonv its still pretty good. Just make sure you do a decent amount of side quests.
Just started watching your videos. Love the content. You are my go to for what to get for the Nintendo switch. The switch has become my go to console over Xbox and PlayStation. Just love the handheld. I own the Nintendo switch lite. My favorite gaming console ever!!!
5:10 went to a gamestop on Black Friday and found Splatoon 2 for $26 and was shocked. When I got the recipet it turns out they couldn't find the promotion (which meant the probably put the wrong discount sticker) but they honored it anyway.
Thanks for another year of great YT videos (: These past months ive picked up Starlink, Age of Calamity and DQ Builders 2 thanks to your past videos like this one. Looks like im gonna have a great December ^^ Happy holidays Woods!
Great call on the Mario Party Superstars and Super Mario Party. Before I bought Superstars, I almost bought Super Mario Party. Thinking it was the latest one. I didnt even know there were two Mario Parties. Thankfully I looked into it and bought the right one. Another tip is dont base your pick on amazon reviews only. SMP has over 22k reviews and a 4.8 out of 5, but the game is trash and a testing ground for MPSS. Superstars has 1k reviews and 4.8 as well.
SMP has more reviews because it's been out for longer. I wouldn't say it's terrible, but I feel many of the other games in the series (such as superstars, even if the boards are remade from past games) handle the boards much better than super did.
Good list, the only one I would disagree on is The Outer Worlds. It is one of my most played switch games. While it is definitely the worst looking version of the game, I never had performance issues in my 3 playthroughs of the game or the DLC on my switch lite. I had more fun with this game than many others on this list. For fans of fallout style games I would definitely get this if they don't have another way to play it. It should be on your maybe list.
Yeah I love the Outer Worlds on switch. I don't get how in his review of the Witcher 3 he's okay with those graphics but hates on the Outer Worlds. I get he doesn't have time to play a lot of games after his first impession (multiple updates have come out for the outer worlds since) but the Outer Worlds is one of the best adventure RPGs on the switch now. Especially for $20-$30.
Outer worlds is absolutely amazing and definitely is a high up there for me. The one I don’t agree with was his comment on Zelda…… first off every Zelda is a better recommendation than BOTW but I personally know 3 people that easily would ask for Links awakening
Well said. As someone who only has the switch, I loved this game. I played it a few months ago after the updates and the game was fine. Sure blurry and not as pretty as on other systems but enjoyable. I really liked the story and characters (especially Parvati). I played it for a like a week straight lol. Lots of dialogue choices :D. It's definitely a buy for me, especially since it's often on sale for around 20s.
Thank you for this video! I’m planning on buying a switch for my birthday in a few months and I know the deals will be gone but honestly I just need to know what are good games to buy and what to not buy. You should do a beginners guide video for people who are new or planning on getting a switch.
i bought a switch a few months ago. i think it depends if u play by yourself or with ppl. personally, the game i play by myself is Hades. Its not only actiony fighting but also has plot to it (stuff like potential love interests etc) thay isnt too overwhelming. its just enough to distract me for a hour or so. with my family i play Super Mario Bros U Deluxe. its rlly fun and u can play by yourself or with ppl
I just bought Monster Hunter Stories on 3DS for $19.00 and I am loving it, I played the second ones demo on Switch but I wanna play and finish the 1st one 1st, tge game is beautifull and addictive and i think it's batter looking than the Zelda games.
I saw my target had “limited stock” on oled switches earlier today. Went to get one. They sold the last one 10 min before I got there 😭 now I have to wait another week! I never even wanted a switch till last week but now I need one now! 😭
I watched this in hopes to find something to buy for myself this Christmas, and realize that I already had all the top recommended games that slap the hardest. So now I'm a little sad 😂 great video as always! I bought my satisfy grip 2 years ago because of you and I never go anywhere without it!!
I 100% disagree with passing on The Outer Worlds. I don't get how people (like YOU) can love games like the Witcher 3 on switch but pass on the Outer Worlds. They've updated the game multiple times now and the gyro controls are amazing. Especially for $20-$30 it's an amazing deal for one of the best RPGs on the switch.
I actually play Sword (private strim session for my son :), and it is worth that, by all room clear donate :) ) and not be sure about new Pokemons, but maybe later I try them. It seems some old-schooled. I am wrong?
I almost yelled at my screen when you didn’t mention either of the Dragonquest games during the must buys, but calmed down after you corrected your error later in the video. :)
I picked up Outer Worlds for $20 AUD on sale. Yeah it look rough on switch, but it has it where it counts - gameplay/gunplay, and great rpg character levelling and customisation. Enjoying that game a lot.
@@boxymousie6909 It depends. It is a good game but not a great port overall. Often looks rough but if you can get past that it is OK. Better played on other systems. The game itself is probably a 7/10, though I thought the Peril of Gorgon DLC should have been part of the base game.
Merry Christmas! I bought Mario Kart, Crash bandicoot trilogy and Mario + Rabbids so happy to see two of those on your list. I wanted Donkey Kong but seeing as that’s a maybe I’ll hold out a bit longer. Great video!
Good video, but you forgot that Breath of the Wild was made for the Wii U, and is in fact the first Wii U port, so the "they might already have it on Wii U" principle certainly applies. :)
Great list. Always fun to see your reviews. Only disagreement I have is with your opinion on the Outer Worlds. I played through it and absolutely loved the Fallout in space vibe. Graphics might not be amazing but still looked good to me and I rarely had any problems or glitches. Definitely worth the $20 I bought it for at Walmart. 👍
Honestly, Tales of Vesperia is an amazing game! The story is really great and the combat system was enjoyable! It will always be a good choice if you really like that anime style and a pretty good story line! :)
Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate has way more content than Monster Hunter Rise, I wouldn't call Rise "better". Although Rise really is an easier introduction to the series than Generations Ultimate. I highly recommend those who finished Rise to give GenU a try :)

Good job. Long-ish video not a waste of time. Full of titles and info, succinct. Thank you.
Imagining a confused mom watching Wood rn.
Thanks Wood, I got bower’s fury. Was considering Luigi’s mansion 3 but will get it next year! Thanks for the amazing list of games. Happy holidays
What does this man do for a living? I can litterally feel my pockets emptying whenever i watch his videos.
Agreed. I have no playback issues on mine either
New update solved a lot of performance issue.
AYYY MY FAV KIND IF VIDEO OF YOU AT THIS TIME OF YEAR !
The only youtuber whos advertisements I actually ENJOY 😆😍
I just bought Monster Hunter Stories on 3DS for $19.00 and I am loving it, I played the second ones demo on Switch but I wanna play and finish the 1st one 1st, tge game is beautifull and addictive and i think it's batter looking than the Zelda games.
thanks wood we love the content. u r doing really really amazing my dude
Thank you Wood I always love these buying guides
This is perfect for GameStop’s buy 2 get 1 free if the sale is still going on. I picked up Donkey Kong, Age of Calamity, and Dread.
YES finally I have been waiting all year for this, such a great video!!!
I think the new Bioshock collection is absolutely amazing and a perfect port for the switch I'd say
Oh yeah I totally forgot that those got ported to Switch! Love those games!
Your videos are so much fun! Just love watching your excitement.
me personally i like brilliant diamond/shining pearl better than sword/shield.
Same
Sword and shield got boring and way too easy. To many xp candies
I actually play Sword (private strim session for my son :), and it is worth that, by all room clear donate :) ) and not be sure about new Pokemons, but maybe later I try them. It seems some old-schooled. I am wrong?
That's what I thought
Tbh him thinking sword and shield was better was dissappointing. Just because its "new and exciting" doesn't make it good
Nah sword and shield was way better
I almost yelled at my screen when you didn’t mention either of the Dragonquest games during the must buys, but calmed down after you corrected your error later in the video. :)
Best games on switch imo are Breath of the wild, Mario Odyssey, and Undertale
I recommend gust titles like
Atelier ryza 1
Atelier ryza 2
Blue reflection second light
I think someone forgot Hollow Knight, it’s usually around $15 on the Switch. Must buy .
I always love these holiday videos I’ve gotten most of my switch collection from your recommendations keep up the great work wood
I also always love your attitude and excitement in your videos. You must really enjoy doing these videos!
same
25:34 That timestamp joke made me laugh. I love that idea. So coy. 😂
I picked up Outer Worlds for $20 AUD on sale. Yeah it look rough on switch, but it has it where it counts - gameplay/gunplay, and great rpg character levelling and customisation. Enjoying that game a lot.
Thx it’s on sale for 24 AUD should I get
@@boxymousie6909 It depends. It is a good game but not a great port overall. Often looks rough but if you can get past that it is OK. Better played on other systems. The game itself is probably a 7/10, though I thought the Peril of Gorgon DLC should have been part of the base game.
I got the outer worlds for $20, and I absolutely love it. I would not put in it in the “avoid” category at all.
I played outerworlds on switch and it felt weird for me, recently played it on xbox and its like a different game
It’s a quality game it’s just the port is garbage if you have game pass you can just play it on Xbox or pc that’s what I’m doing
Love your vids! IMO Mario Party Superstars should’ve been DLC for anyone who bought Super Mario Party. Good recommendations though!
6:44 who named their cat pączki? thats actually adorable, 100% stealing that XD
Honestly, Tales of Vesperia is an amazing game! The story is really great and the combat system was enjoyable! It will always be a good choice if you really like that anime style and a pretty good story line! :)
I say the same thing about games made by GUST ie: the Atelier series and 'Blue Reflection Second Light.'
I loved this video. I will be taking your advice. Thank you.
Have to disagree on Outer worlds. I ended up beating it on switch despite having on pc and loved it. At least a maybe.
Me watching this video as a fellow DFW resident: I went out today in shorts. And this man is in a sweater and beanie.
Like always, great vid.
Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate has way more content than Monster Hunter Rise, I wouldn't call Rise "better". Although Rise really is an easier introduction to the series than Generations Ultimate. I highly recommend those who finished Rise to give GenU a try :)
Yay, another BeatEmUps holidays video
Pro tip: a lot of $60 games get cut down to $50 after a little while in amazon.
Yea but I like buying the virtual version better
@@seabass8593 Exactly, for me, gaming is a thing to do in a lazy mood, so I just wanna boot up my switch and play the games, along with downloading it immediately once purchased.
Absolutely loved the video! Always look forward to watching these buying guides like that’s how I know it’s Christmas 😂 Just recently bought a switch and I must say you were a huge influence on me making that decision. Seeing you play games on the console made it look so good and I must say I am loving it so far. Keep up the good work and videos and happy holidays to all!
Thank you so much for making this Wood. Now I know what games are worth purchasing and their price ranges
🙂
Buy Hollow night or Ori if you want Great 2D platformers.
They are both 20,- so not bad and they are both amazing.
Your welcome for the information ^^
What about Ori? They are soooo good games and I don't remember hearing you talk about them. But thanks for your effort anyway!
thnak you for always making this video it helps a lot for new swith owners
I'm thinking to get breath of the wild or Super Mario 3d All stars but I'm leaning towards Botw
Get breath of the wild. You won't regret it 👍
Get botw, you won't regret it in the slightest
@@loek7531 I'm playing Hyrule Warriors right now and since it's kinda based off Botw it's actally fun so ye, Also I can't believe I've had switch since release and not had Breath of the wild
@@Alphasolos1 In my book it's the best game on switch. Huge open world with tons of stuff to discover, uses almost every feature on the switch and once you leave the tutorial erea (which is actually fun unlike other games) you are free to do what you want in any order. Wanna immediately go fight the final boss with a wooden club? Go for it! 😆
