Mate birkenhead Town centre IS bad. All the decent shops have closed. But doing this video at 7am or 7pm as you obviously have, makes it look worse than it is because the shops still operating will obviously have the shutters down.
I got on a bus in Birkenhead 20-something years ago on my way home from a friend's flat, after 3 pretty much sleepless nights of dancing and beer in clubs in the area. The warmth and hum of the bus sent me straight to sleep, and I whacked my head on the steel pole in front of me. The nice old lady sitting opposite said "you fucking skaghead". I had to ask someone what she meant when I got home!
This is the town I grew up near, living about 4miles away. online sales ( which should’ve been heavily taxed ) and the fact that crime has been allowed to flourish in the area as a result along with a lack of investment is to largely to blame .
The may as well bulldoze the whole lot. More and more business abandoning a sinking ship. It will never reform to what it was many years ago. More empty premises than occupied. Injecting any money into the town centre will be like throwing money down the drain. Throwing good money after bad. I live in the Wirral and never venture into Birkenhead town centre, so depressing. I prefer to travel an extra 5 minutes through to Liverpool. More shops, business, bars and restaurants and generally a better vibe.
It's truly heartbreaking, but 14 years of the Tories being in power; and also Brexit, have done this to Birkenhead. But also to so many other towns up and down the UK. It's not just confined to the North West. Yet some people are already blaming Labour for this. How can they be to blame, when they've only been in power for a month? Wish people would wake up and realise the true scale of destruction the Tories left us with. Blaming Labour is not only wrong, but it won't solve anything or get us anywhere.
The destruction of Birkenhead began long before the Tories came to power. It began in the 90s. The council routed all public transport to Liverpool while simultaneously having the most ruthlessly enforced parking regime I have ever encountered. The main attraction of Birkenhead as opposed to Liverpool was you could park your car. Free parking is available at Cheshire Oaks and Bromborough. When the banks closed down there is now no incentive to to Birkenhead at all. Blaming the Tories for 50 years of Labour council policy is utterly stupid.
The downfall of Birkenhead has been happening for many years, let’s be honest Birkenhead has been a Labour stronghold for many years It was only lately it was any change, bad leadership is part of the problem European money was allocated to Birkenhead in the past, it had to be decided by Europe because anywhere outside of London gets little to no financial support which comes outside the councils remit. But Labour in the past have done no favours for Birkenhead.
Our politicians destroyed places Like Birkenhead that had great industries like Cammell Laird shipyard who were leaders in shipbuilding as they welded the first aircraft carrier instead of using rivets plus built one with an angled deck etc !
@@Stewpot-p5l .... yes I agree. Both Labour and the Tories enacted policies which negatively impacted the Merseyside area hugely....over a very long period of time. But if you think that Reform UK are the solution, then you're sadly mistaken. They're just a bunch of chancers and grifters, not worth anyone's time. And certainly not their vote.
What a crao video! A lot of the shops with shutter you have shown are still open! Yes it is bad but it seems you're trying to make it look worse just for views . Why?

This is wot the governments of England have done to are country
Our government take their orders from higher powers. Our politicians are usefull idiots and criminals.
It's what shopping on line has done. We are all guilty..
It's not the government's it's retail parks and online shopping! and them places aren't full of smack heads and alcoholics like birkenhead

Looks lke first thing sunday morning long before any shops have opened! Any chance of a follow up film only this time on a week day lunch time!
I agree. Some of them shops are definitely open. However definitely needs some help Birkenhead
Birkenhead is dying
nice 1 recording it on sunday
It’s always been a dreary place
Your walking around early morning before some of the shops have opened or early evening after they've closed! So it's not exactly a ghost town yet!
Just totally desperate times 😢
Grange road is bad, I don't know what's happening down at the Pyramids centre now, I've lived there 8 years now and seen a rapid decline in business
A once vibrant shopping centre is now a shadow to itself. So sad 😞
How grimm these places are
It’s literally 7am ffs 😆
Imagine filling a video at well before all the sops are open , heavy breathing for shutters that are down . Freak !!

Labour did this 25 years running the council into the ground.

What a cheap rubbish video obviously taken on a Sunday morning about 8am. All these shops are open usually. A vibrant town full of great people.
