Hey, friends, in this video, I will discuss the McIntosh MHA200 Vacuum Tube Headphone Amplifier, review its features, build quality, specs, design, overall quality of sound, and some of my favorite headphone pairings. I primarily listened to the MHA200 with the Chord Hugo TT2 as the DAC, as well as the Chord Hugo 2/2go combo as its digital-analog converter paired with several pairs of headphones such as the Audeze LCD-5, DCA Stealth, Focal Stellia, Focal Clear MG, Sennheiser HD660s, ZMF Verité Open, and Hifiman HE6SEV2, to give my overall conclusions on the quality of sound.

Marcello!!! It’s great to see you collaborating with the Source AV! I subscribed to see more of your content on this channel. Great review. I have a unit. The volume knob was such an issue for me I had to run a preamp. Other than that, I love the sound and have fun tube rolling.

After watching your video I decided to purchase a MHA200 and I have to tell you I am blown away with the amp with my Focal clear MG,s I was going to get Focal,s Utopia's because I,m a detail junkie in my music, but this amp is just perfect it takes all my music to the next level.I listen for 2-3 hours and I have to push myself to put the headphones down.....

Nice detailed review. I like that you have impressions with many headphones. I have the Focal Clear MG's and Beyerdynamics 1990 and am hopeful I will enjoy it more with the Mc vs my NAD 658 preamp

Really appreciate you making this vid. I ordered one of these end of March. I'm going to be pairing the mha200 w/ the Empyreans, Clear MG, Z1R, and eventually the ZMF Atrium (currently being built). Do you have a ref link for a good high quality replacement power cable for the mha200?

There is a model change on the Tributaries 6 power cable I use on my MHA200. It was $150. The new model is $275. I believe we still have a couple of the previous $150 version. There is a discount on either but I can’t check until after 11am PT to be sure what that discount was/is. It’s a 2 tiered discount. It’s a little more when purchased with the MHA200. Marcello is right, because of model changes recently we are still loading the new models into Shopify but you can contact Wayne@thesourceav.com to order the cable. TSAV Jason
So I had a moment to look at our deals on power cables for the MHA200. When you buy an MHA200 from us you get a Tributaries 6 C7 power cable at no charge. When you buy the original Tributaries 6 C7 from us it costs $150 reg but you get a $30 discount making it $120. The new version of the C7 Tributaries 6 by itself you receive a $75 discount making it a $200 cable. This discount is through the end of April.
How did you like the amp?
I purchased the new Schiit Folkvnger a few weeks ago but they’re having big delays but I found one of these so I’m giving Schiit one more week then I’m pulling the trigger on this.

The Schiit looks amazing but I wonder if the mha200 provides a cleaner sound compared to the Folkvangr.

It depends on what you prefer both are great. We always have the MHA200 in stock on our website or available for demo in-store if you want to give it a listen.
Nice review. Would this work with the Bluesound Node? Network Router to Node to MHA200?
I don’t see why not @Timobi_1 then you can stream music off the Bluesound app into the MHA200. If I remember correctly the Bluesound is using a Texas Instruments burr brown chip which would probably pair well with the MHA200. Of course if you haven’t purchased the Node yet their are many other streaming Dac options as well. ***Marcello TSAV
I'm guessing any comparisons made in future videos will be against currently available amps. Any chance you could comment on the MHA200 vs the out-of-production Schiit Mjolnir 2? I was recently able to compare my Mjolnir to the crazy TOTL HeadAmp GS-X mk2 at more than 3x the price of the Mjolnir and ended up liking the Mjolnir more. My local shop won't let me try the MHA200 so I'm nervous about buying.
Hi @Bill Bodega , I can’t comment on how it compares to the Mjolnir 2 as I haven’t compared them head to head. Not sure why your local shop wouldn’t let you listen to it. We have it on display along with about 40 + pairs of headphones and numerous other solid-state, tube amps, and DACs. If you are in the greater Los Angeles region stop by for a listen during business hours.

No, I don’t think so. Harder to drive headphones would be a no go. It outputs 500mw if memory serves me correct. I would look at a beefy tube amp from Woo Audio or Ampsandsound we have both on our website www.thesourceav.com

Can you switch the bloody awful green LED’s off?
I run the ifi neo idsd with this...using Stellia's and LCD2F...Fantastic, but yes, the volume knob is trash

Hi, Austah. The second stand (not the Grumpy Goose one) appears to be a ROOM's headphone stand. I have two, a wooden one like in the video and a metal one. They are both outstanding stands.
